Mouse Problem with Align to Grid

I am confident the answer to this isn't difficult, but I am having some kind of a block.  I am teaching myself how to use Roll20, going through tutorials and setting up a trial page to play around with all of the ideas. From what I can tell, in regards to aligning maps, one of the first steps is to use the "Align to Grid" function.  No problem.  I have no trouble finding that.  I even used it once earlier today.  I was pulled away for a few hours.  I re-opened my test pages and every time I try to click and drag the 3x3 squares, it drags my whole map.  When I left-click, it drags my whole map around.  When I right-click, it moves my viewpoint across the screen.   I know I put the map in the map layer.  Do I need to be in the Object/Token layer to do this alignment?  I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong and it is driving me bonkers.

Are you right clicking the graphic on the map layer and choosing Advanced -> Align to Grid first? It sounds like you haven't gotten it into the Align mode yet.  Are you seeing: at the top of the page?
Yes.  I did see those.  I saw the drop down menu you show.  I selected "Advanced" as you show here.  I then went over to the second drop-down and selected "Align to Grid" at the bottom.  Then I did get that same dark box that says "Grid Alignment Tool" that you have shown above.  Then, as directed by the box and the tutorial I watched, I attempted to click and drag, but every time I dragged, it pulled the whole map.  What kills me is that I did do it successfully earlier today.  For the life of me, I cannot figure out what I am doing differently. I assume, that in the course of learning some other element of Roll20, I selected some element that really shouldn't be selected and forgot to turn it off.  Or, I turned off something that should be turned on?  I don't know.   While I was waiting, I went back and attempted to line it up by eyeball, as shown in several of the other tutorials.  I couldn't quite get a handle on that before, but I have done two maps successfully in the last half hour, so maybe I won't need that tool anymore.   Maybe I will get another map and try again.   Regardless, THANK YOU for your very clear and visually precise response.  Even if it doesn't exactly get me where I need to be, I very much appreciate your willingness to help.

That's certainly bizarre.  I tried to get into a state where it wouldn't work correctly by switching to the pan tool and various other things and couldn't get it to fail.  Are you using Chrome or Firefox or some other browser?  Have you tried restarting the browser?
Ooh!  I hadn't thought of that. I am using Chrome, and I have had everything on for quite a long time.  I am still goofing with some other elements tonight, some non-map background pages and entering stats for some goons, but I will shut it all down tonight, Roll20, Chrome, and heck, even my computer.  I will restart tomorrow morning and set up another map page to try it again.

Cool!  Hopefully that will fix it. =D

I've found that after clicking the Align to Grid, don't click anything else except to click and drag the area for the grid alignment. If you dismiss the box, it seems as if you lose the align to grid state and then you'll end up moving the map...
