Mark- Yes 5E Ian- west marches is a type of game where the players make the decision of where to go, how to get there, and what they want to do. Where the characters(who you play as) as well as the players(You) know little to nothing outside of your town, but for some reason(Boredom... a friend... lust of fame) has lorded you out of your safe town. Now officially and adventurer you must discover the outside world that surrounds your town. It is also a way to balance a party for some specific task, because there is often 10 to 20 playing in the same game. There is almost always a discussion board somewhere where a player posts something like "I am Thimus Voltuga, the Ranger to the South. I am seeking 3 company men of great might and 1 Thief of any size to escort me safely to the west where I am told a Hag fiend has taken a small child and plans to eat her. I leave this tomorrow morning for my quest, who will accompany me on this adventure?" ***** It doesn't have to be in character but it is always fun. From there if you want to join Thimus on his quest, you just simply respond and you are in. Basically it is a big open world with plenty of friends and adventures to discover it with.
