Preparing macros out of game time as a player?

I am still pretty new to Roll20 and only use it as a player.  To save my GM and fellow players some time, I would like to prepare some macros.  I am learning how to do this; however, the trouble is that as a player I can only seem to access the screens that I need for building macros DURING GAME TIME. How can I access my character sheets and/or the "gear" icon OUTSIDE OF GAME TIME so that I can build my macros on  my own schedule and not be working on them during game time?  Is this possible?  How?  Thanks for any help!

The easiest way is to create your own game with same sheet you're using for the campaign you're in. That way you can test whatever you like & don't have to worry about messing up the chat log.

Character sheets are only available inside a game (just to add to what Oosh has said).

If you have access to your character sheet, you should have access regardless of who is connected. You can build Abilities on your abilities and attributes tab, or Macros on the collections tab. Game time should have nothing to do with it.
