Steven W. said: Wait. I'm sorry. i'm not running a game myself, but your post just piqued my curiosity anyway, because it left me with several questions. When you say 'chicken' do you mean that simply as slang for 'cowardly and unfond of danger/combat'? Or... Do you mean that your race is - literally and without hyperbole - a chicken? And - if it's the latter - how did you somehow wrangle the sapience and intelligence scores that the field of wizardry would require? Was your awakened by some sort of freak magical accident or druidic nature effect? Even if that is so, and you possess a capable level of self-awareness and intellect, how - exactly - do you hope to preform many the necessary steps of a wizard's routine with your small, avian body? Are your wings and claws adept enough at manipulation to properly handle your spell components or the somatic gestures of many spells? Can you - at that - even effectively carry your spellbook? How do you expect to handle social situations in town? Do you expect your typical shop or tavern owners to engage in calm, rational conversation with you when, to all the world, you at first appear to be nothing more than an ordinary chicken, and then - perhaps later - you then proceed to reveal yourself as a *talking* chicken? Can you even effectively hope to open human-built doors by way of simply pecking and clawing at them? So many questions after questions. @-@ Yes. I do mean a literal chicken. And to answer some of your questions, this is why I'm looking fir a more casual 'relaxed rules' sort of game that would allow for some of those more fiddly things to be doable. But as for the answers... How I got the selfawareness/intelligence: I have toyed with the ideas of wither freak magical accident, or possibly an evil caster that was experimenting with soul transferrance trapped this wizard's soul in a chicken. But there are probably other ways it could happen too. As for wizardly tasks, stuff such as writing could be done with either beack or claw, using a claw tip as quill, or holding quill in beak. Through practice, writing could/should be possible. Legibility is questionable though. Spell book, and components can be held in pouches around the chicken's neck/back. And spellcastin foci such as wands could theoretically be held by the chicken's foot, or if DM allows, "held" by tying it to the chicken's back. As for the verbal/somatic compenents it would be up to the DM to allow things such as clucking and scratching to act as said verbal/somatics. (This is one of those things that is why I am looking for the looser with the rules game, so something like that could be allowed.) Things such as social interactions, entering/exiting buildings and such would require some help from party members to facilitate. And to be honest, the awkward social interactions of townsfolk and players with this intelligent, magical chicken is a lot of the reason I want to play as a wizard chicken.
