ill just paste this link to a 3 yo post that sums it up better then I ever could https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/4477595/workspace-centering/?pageforid=4495366#newtopic just skip to the last post with the images Still left top centered instead of the CENTER..... just read the dead thread and someone explain why its not corrected to match literally EVERY OTHER APP EVER!! because this makes me so furious when I'm setting up or running a game, and no I don't need to "GetGud" or "get used to it" when i can simply use FG or one of the other VTTs available. Sorry not sorry but Roll20 NEEDS TO ADAPT TO US when its something as simple as this because if i have to pay for scripts and content then roll20 needs to make a GUI that isn't garbage edit: for my crappy spelling and grammer
it seems one can be banned from here for criticizing anything, if that's the case I hope fantasy grounds is cool cuz ill be done spending my money here
and on that note 2 months is to short for killing threads btw. Just shows how little roll20 staff care about what we want

Roll20 isn't perfect, we all know it... but constructive criticism goes a long way and certainly does not result in a ban. Out right inflammatory posts used to but now would likely receive a polite warning. As the VTT backend continues to develop things like your expectations might become more of a reality, other VTTs were likely developed that way from scratch, learning from the lessons that Roll20 had to learn the hard way... and with only a handful of Devs back then too. I'm not defending the mistakes of the past however, nor do I represent Roll20 in any official capacity, but going from 0-100 in 15 minutes with no response from anyone else isn't likely to generate much traction from a team already at capacity due to the World situation right now... You catch more flies with honey or whatever... but hey, I hear <insert any other VTT here> is a paradise, so have fun :)

+1 Ziechael. You too, Ron Burgundy.
Thx for the folksy wisdom and non-answer :) if your not a dev why apologize for them? and once again CAN ANYONE ACTUALLY TELL ME WHY ITS NOT CENTERED EVER?!?!?!?!?!?!?! If not kindly share your wisdom elsewhere as some of us want legitimate answers. this is literally a rookie mistake thats gone unaddressed in ANY WAY for apparently the entire life span of roll20... I was unaware roll20 was the first VTT and if so why has this not been fixed. its not a feature, its not even a bug! its just plain Bad design!! and don't blame the pandemic this issue has been unaddressed Far longer then Covid-19 had been a thing you want sunshine and light? then stop charging me until its fixed! No? Then how about someone actually tell me why? I don't care if you like me and I don't care what other VTTs are doing as I'm not paying them I'm paying you. how about an iota of customer service?

this isn't me begging for info or a new idea this is me Demanding to know why the biggest issue i can see with this VTT has been IGNORED by the devs for YEARS
And you don't know how long I've been upset about this btw! or how many emails I've sent. or how many hours I've wasted due to the complete lack of intelligent UI design tyvm. or how many dollars I've spent on Roll20. so from a PAYING CUSTOMER AN ACTUAL ANSWER WOULD BE APPRECIATED! And again how much I'm liked shouldn't have any effect on quality of customer service, or are all the rumors I keep reading about roll20 just ignoring any criticism or request for help true?
but hey why help someone when you can just toss up a meme and tell them to shut up real nice like

A post that 4 or 5 people responded to, three years ago, is probably not at the top of the devs' priority list. I could be wrong though! Maybe it will be in the next patch, and 3 people around the world will rejoice! Perhaps, if this really is the straw that's going to break the camel's back, you should post a Suggestion in the Suggestions Forum. Probably try to limit yourself to one post, be concise and descriptive, and see if it gets the votes to be noticed. You might want to temper your expectations though - there are Suggestions with hundreds of votes which haven't gained any momentum and the new lighting system is still struggling to get airborne. Another suggestion - I know you can move/mess with a user's view point using JavaScript. I don't code JS, so I don't know the specifics, but someone who knows R20 and JS very well might actually be able to write some kind of hook which would change the functionality of the page centering.

a post not in the suggestion and/or bug report isnt gonna get checked by devs. they are busy and if they do check stuff, why the fuck will they check on specific questions and macros. bye Felicia

I certainly think it's annoying, myself. Zooming in to check something and back out to look at the big picture is disorienting.

(I suspect most people don't play the game with the map zoomed all the way out, since you won't be able to see the tokens very well.) Again If i was Unclear.... my issue is with zooming or moving the table top continually realigns the "center" of the screen based on no logic I can follow Rather then just keeping focus On the Pointer! Am I the only one who has ever used Photoshop?!? Forget zoom for a moment and just look at scrolling up and down, left and right. again the screens center of view jumps all around and makes right click moving difficult by refusing to let go if you stray off of the active part of the tabletop even slightly for that matter why is there even a nonactive table top... you can't put tokens there or use it in Any way? Why is half my screen unusable space? Yes I know I can make the page bigger but its still pointless to be able to zoom out past the active use area (Map&grid). Am I way to angry about this?? definitely! However i cant be the only one that this infuriates in the regular! since Covid I'm running 2 games a week and playing in 2 more all here on roll20 (was an in person gamer before this) and frankly the lighting is a good thing I guess but it runs like crap for my group, lags the response time from Roll20 on simple die rolls (simple=no animations and not using video) by as much as a few min and regularly 20+ seconds never mind trying to move a token... so we don't use it. As i said before this (zoom issues) feel like Basic functionality not a bell or whistle and its been ignored to a degree that is ridiculous, I hope dynamic Lighting works great when it come out of beta soon I really do. I just hate that when i google my issue I find a 3yo post that never got one official response and was closed, so I then google issues with these boards and roll20 on redit... 3 hours later i clime out of that rabbit hole and yes my post was pissed but you can understand why after what i read/watched about this place and the people that run roll20. Makes me want to spend my money elsewhere to be honest but my group has agreed on roll20 for now so they keep getting my $$ for now. And by UDL I assume you mean Universal Design for Learning? If so please elaborate on what you meant.

Actually the consensus on the scripting(roll20) boards is its not something that can be fixed by scripting past automating the GMs "Grab ping" which is not a solution to this issue at all. The grab-Ping is a useful thing and iv'e scripted in a way to make a button for each PC and a way to make a start point when entering a map (moving the player ribbon) Learned here (https://youtu.be/AX7DAnY9p74) super useful tutorial btw. point is iv'e looked and I cant find anything close to changing the zoom focus. as for Java scripting outside of roll20 that's beyond my ability If i'm missing something I would love to find out what

There is only one person in that thread asking for the behavior to change. Most of it is either people explaining the difference or (in my case) expressing a mild preference.
