Game specific avatars.

I recently discovered that you could set game specific names for yourself in the settings menu. This got me thinking, it would be much more useful if you could also set game specific avatars as well, both as a matter of practicalility and aesthetics. First, being able to change your name to something fitting for the game is great, but sometimes it leaves you with a wildly inappropriate avatar. This is a minor irritation in the avatar boxes, but if you type as your self it can be quite jarring to see certain avatars pop-up in the text. What's worse is if you change your name to your character's name. If you do that, you'll have two instances of the proper name in the drop down and no way to tell which has the right avatar. Second, it really helps with cosmetics. One of the things that bugs me about roll20 is that the journals tend to be completely private, so the only time other players get to see my character picture is in the really tiny text chat. Being able to throw it up as my avatar would fix that. Even better, I could switch it, depending on the mood or environment, without messing with my character sheet or token. The best thing would be to have a few "expressions" you could easily flip through, but just being able to set it by the scene would be a huge step forward.

All good ideas, especially where you extended the idea to "expressions" that could be changed. I hope they add this like you said. As a workaround, if your set-up fits this (basically if your group runs video and you install a free program), you can use a Web cam program on your computer, that sends a static image (JPEG) as your webcam feed. It works if the Roll20 game has video turned on, but instead of sending your video feed, use Cam Twist or a program like that to set a picture for your web cam feed. You can change the picture at any time during the game, thus displaying different expressions or looks.
Huh. That is an interesting idea. I'll have to look into it.

I also think having game-specific avatars would be a great feature. It would help your fellow players associate you with your character, as well as giving them a sense of what your character looks like. Sure, you can already do this with the one avatar you have, but this feature would really help for players who participate in multiple games at the same time.
