grabbing objects unpredictable

hello Two weeks ago I bought a new Lenovo with Windows-pretty much just to play rpg's here. Touchpad or mouse I get really frustrating behaviors. This post is prompted after having to try over a dozen times to drag an icon onto a map; grabbing objects is a completely random event. Maps and Tokens in my library are difficult to grab. I click on them and they very often don't stick when I try to drag them onto the page.  When things are on the page my pointer tool fights me.  I click on the pointer and then click token, it highlights; but when I try to drag the token the map moves instead. Repeated tries brings success--sometimes.   Is this normal? I started playing rpg's in like 1969. For the first time in my life I think "ugh, I have to get ready for DnD." sad emoji

Items don't lock, so layers are your friend.  Move map items to the map layer - and try and arrange them there. If you're adding items to the map layer, put them on the token layer first to move them around and get them positioned, then move them back to the map layer (right-click menu)  It's tricky at first, for sure - 

Thanks Pat   I have the map on the map layer.  I  have the icon on the icon layer. I am on the icon layer. I click and select the arrow, not mr hand. I click on the token and it highlights. I try to move the token. The map is as likely to move as the token.  is this normal? Is there a "stupid pet trick" i need to know about?

If the map appears to be moving, then are you panning the entire map area rather than actually moving the map in relation to the map area? Perhaps the touchpad on your new laptop is the issue. I know that I always have to disable the "tap-to-click" option on touchpads because I accidentally click too often when it is enabled. (Tap-to-click is the most annoying windows 10 function, and totally unnecessary when the touchpad has proper click buttons.)
