Are they on another layer? Often times maps that come with NPC tokens will have the tokens on the GM Layer (although sometimes I put them on the map layer by accident when setting up a map 🤦 ) and they'll need to get selected whilst on that layer. The GM layer makes it so players can't see what's awaiting them until the GM is ready. If you're a player, it sounds like the GM hasn't given you access to the token.
