I am starting a new weekly campaign every Tuesday at 6pm PST. We need one more but have space for three. This will be purely scifi instead of fantasy as there are no spells or supernatural abilities in this world. This is a paid campaign costing $10 a session or $35 for four. Here is the introduction: You awake to an almost overwhelming smell of chlorine, and the dim light shows a single image of a golden labrador on a holographic display. It eyes you patiently. The AIs from this time period, you later learn, are not self aware or capable of independent action. This AI, who happened to have been given the avatar of a dog, is waiting with eternal patience for you to speak. The last thing you remember was being sentenced to twenty years for a crime you didn't commit. Well you were committing a crime, just not the one they convicted you of. This new utpoia had abolished the death penalty in exchange for putting people in cryo sleep for decades or sometimes generations and you were sentenced to 35 years for stealing state secrets. JAKE, the AI, explains it has been 85 years. You were kept an additional 45 years, 3 months, 13 days, 2 hours, and 45 seconds. The air was deemed unsuitable for human life as it exceeded eighteen times the recommended dosage of radiation. It also had several uncontained military grade viruses floating around. It's primary function is to preserve the humans of the New Dawn Mars colony at all costs, and you are all that's left of it. You and eighteen other inmates. Your cryopods and the reinforced walls of your prison shielded you from the worst of it, but not all. It explains you will live another eighteen years at most before cancer or other afflictions related to the radiation take your life. JAKE has spent the last fifty-two years, eleven months, eight days, fourteen hours and twelve seconds building New Dawn a colony ship and it needs you to crew it under it's supervision. There are over ten thousand human gene sequences stored it is library, and it plans on birthing each of them on the new home, which it needs you to find. It cannot choose a destination. That is not in it's programming. The ship, a 5x5 design, can only house 32 people at a time, and 32 in cryo. It has a maximum speed of .8c, and can coast a maximum of 20 light years if it's speed is reduced to .4c. There are many candidate systems in range, but all of them will take at least 4 years. A long journey, and one the AI expects you to be conscious for.... in case the cryo pods fail. You assume these are all preprogrammed directives, but you have never met an AI before. How much has changed in 85 years? You are the last members of the New Dawn colony, but maybe not the last humans. It is unclear. What is clear is several antagonistic AIs survived and are following their last directive somewhere in the solar system. AIs are not as good as the real thing. Something is missing, even in the uploaded consciousness taken from the brain scans of the recently deceased. Despite their limitation a general fear of them has lead to the passing of the primary Solar Law, all AIs must be stripped of any ambition and free will.
