Maximum Upload Size

Hello, after some research i figured that the maximum image size you can upload is something about 5mb and if i got it right this hasnt changed at least in the last 8 (?) years. but as technology is evolving and Internet connection speed goes up while the price for storage acutally goes down constantly, I just wonder, is there any plan to raise the maximum upload size per file? I am drawing my maps with a lot of detail and put a lot work in there and would acutally be able to export them up to 8k, but as i am limited to the 5mb I have to export them always in a very low resolution. Also as you limit the maximum upload size in total (I mean like 1gb for plus users), why limit the single file size? Thanks in Advance! Tobi

It could possibly have to do with performance issues. The file you upload is not the one displayed. Every uploaded graphic gets recreated in 4-5 different sizes, for faster display at different zoom levels. There could be an upper limit of diminishing returns. My suggestion (and what I do for very large maps) is to slice them into 2-6 different slices, upload them separately and piece them together on-screen. It's a bit more planning, but the performance is good. This is the technique used by Roll20 on some modules, such as the poster map of Waterdeep in Dragon Heist.

Free accounts have a limit of 5MB file size.&nbsp; That is increased to 10MB for Plus and Pro.&nbsp; That should be plenty to upload an image that resolution as long as you are using an efficient format.&nbsp; I often use the 4k template in Wonderdraft and end up with maps around 2MB, so 8k should be doable as long as you are converting them to an efficient format.&nbsp; There are a couple articles on the wiki that may be of interest. <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Best_Practices_for_Files_on_Roll20#File_Types" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Best_Practices_for_Files_on_Roll20#File_Types</a> Keep in mind that what you can use will be affected by the computer and data connection each one of your players has...&nbsp; I have one that can't handle maps much bigger than 2MB. <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Optimizing_Roll20_Performance#Graphics_Rendering" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Optimizing_Roll20_Performance#Graphics_Rendering</a> One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the resolution of the Roll20 grid is 70px by 70px.&nbsp; That would make an 8k standard resolution map around 110 by 62 grid cells in size.&nbsp; That is an awful lot of scrolling/panning around, or people will be shrinking the map to see more at once and miss out on a lot of your detail.&nbsp; Be sure you need that sort of resolution before uploading a map that size.

What file format are you using?&nbsp; &nbsp;Webm and jpg at 5 to 10mb should make for giant maps. Also, make sure your image is set to 72 dpi since it will be used on screen only.&nbsp; 300 dpi uses way too much storage space and just makes users zoom in unnecessarily.

Thanks for all your replies ! so i just went to shrinking the maps until they were just less than 10mb. But it works alright now! :)
