Turn order (initiative tracker) disappears

For my last couple of games, we all rolled initiative, and soon afterwards the Turn Order became blank.  My guess is that this happened when we changed to a different map, but I can't be certain. Regardless, it would be super helpful if Turn Order remained visible even when maps were changed (or whatever else is causing the issue), because it's extremely disruptive to combat when the initiative tracker disappears.
The entry in the initiative tracker is tied to the specific token on that specific map, not to your character sheet more generally. As a player, you can only see entries in the initiative tracker that are for tokens on the token layer on the map you're currently looking at.  GMs see tokens from all pages. So, if you're rolling before a map change - you'll absolutely have problems.  And your GM may not even realize the issue, because they'll still see your token from the other page.

Thanks for the info.  That's an excellent argument for why that design should be changed.

The reason it is tied to tokens rather than character sheets is so that you can have multiple tokens appear on the tracker that use the same (or no) character sheet.  So, there are arguments for it staying as it is as well.

I'm not arguing with tying it to tokens, just saying that it should carry over from one map to another.  If the DM can see the turn order after a map changes, then it's clearly possible to make it visible to the players as well.

Sure, it's possible.  They could make initiative for tokens on the GM layer visible to players as well.  But they don't.   Players only seeing the tokens on their current map means GMs can set up combat on a map in advance without spoiling things accidentally by opening the tracker.  We can split the party and not have all the players know what the rogue just ran into into in the other room until they get there.  It doesn't come up real often, but it's a cool option. I agree, it can be a bit confusing though.  Seems like a good candidate for the suggestion forum.

Back in 2014 I ran into this problem and solved it for myself by never rolling for Initiative until I move the Ribbon to the battle map and check that the players can see their tokens.  It’s like running through your pre-flight checklist before takeoff. ;)
