The Gricks: Caretaker's Journal

Week 1: Some crazy bunch of freelancers recovered eggs for these monsters from the deep caves on one of their expeditions. For reasons that make sense only to them, they decided to hatch and raise them. But, they're busy with some grand quest or some crap to that effect, which is where I come in. They're paying me well enough, I suppose, and they built a proper habitat for whatever is about to come out of those; a lot of tunnels and rocks. Whatever. Hopefully these things aren't fond of goblinflesh right out of the egg. Week 1b: The eggs hatched. What came out is some sort of worm with grabby tendrils and a beak. Hatchlings were maybe as long as my forearm. It's ugly but they seem to imprint like birds, so the good news is they follow me around like ducklings. The bad news is they eat an absurd amount of raw meat. The freelancers left a good budget to acquire food but I'm going to have to talk about making sure that budget stays up. Right now they're off in the north, something about cyclones or tornadoes or cultists. I didn't really understand. Week 2: The creatures are now as long as my whole arm. At this rate they'll be as long as I am tall in a month. They still eat voraciously, but I got a friend of mine to do a little math and I reckon they're eating less compared to their weight now. Hopefully that means they stop growing at some point. They're fond of hiding whenever someone walks past. I think they have pretty good hearing. Some of the larger ones are starting to take on colors similar to the walls of their tunnels. Those ones are much better at hiding than the others.
Week 3: These creatures grow very fast. They are nearly my height now, which means they've doubled in length in the last month. They are eating less now. Each one has started building a nest out of some kind of plaster they spit from their beaks. It's actually quite impressive. I tried to collect some of the spit in a jar, see if I could sell it to my cousin who does brickwork, but it set in the jar so now I've just got a jar full of solid plaster. They've stopped hiding when I come past. I think they like to be scratched behind their tentacles, but it's hard to tell since their faces aren't very expressive.
