**Update 50/50 Combat / RP is just a catch-all, if I am GMing then I am happy if the group is happy, if everyone comes for a dungeon crawl hack 'n slash then that is what we'll get, if we want to sit around the fire and tell stories and barely touch the die, I'm happy there too. Someone has messaged me privately with interest in The Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign, I would be happy to run that if there was enough interest, even happier to play in it if someone else wanted to run it. High Fantasty / Low Fantasy / etc. I'd be stoked to look into other game systems too if there was something interesting someone wanted to try out, although my experience is pretty limited to DnD 5e, 3.5 and Pathfinder. If it mattered to anyone I am a happily married male in my late 30s and I am excited to play with any decent folk of all ages, sexual preference, race or background. I am not easily frustrated and am very happy to bring in and teach players of any experience level (even no experience whatsoever). My first books were my dad's original AD&D
manuals from the 70s but I played 2nd edition mostly through High School
and a little beyond. I then skipped some decades of heavy gaming (20s
and 30s becoming more about the life-grind than my hobbies) but have
been back actively playing Pathfinder and 5e on and off the last 4-5
years now. I enjoy 5e's focus on narrative over mechanics and find it a
robust but flexible enough system for anyone to engage with. Roll20
works alright, I find constant issues with it but can generally come up
with workarounds to achieve desired results. I don't know all the crazy
macros and finer points of various settings to get it to do all the cool
stuff it can do, but I'm always learning and adding more tricks to my
bag. My goal is to always be at a table of storytellers and
to contribute, whether as a player or GM, to those stories being told
together. Whether a character has a vast, involved backstory or just a
simple, overt origin, I revel in finding ways to weave those narratives
into modules and beyond. As a player, well, I'd just like to be one some
day, I do not lament the "forever GM" title, I often proudly wear it,
but I do hope that those players at my table will one day invite me to
theirs. My ideal Friday night game would be as a player alongside a good
friend of mine and some like-minded storytellers. My buddy Brandon has
been a player in my games since we first met as Freshmen in High School
and we have never been able to play in a game side-by-side since. It's a
goal, but not the only goal and GMing The Wild Beyond the Witchligh, another module, or a whole custom campaign sandbox-style for a group of respectful and excited storytellers would be a happy Friday night for me for sure.
Let me know if anyone has any additional thoughts or questions for me or any feedback to help this post get seen more and spread around to places it might generate some more interest. Cheers! - John
