Thanks Have the DM select both and ungroup, then select the horse/mount and set them to BACK in the right click menu for the mount. Additionally, if this is 5e, only highly intelligent mounts can act like a normal statblock. If its a traditional mount, once it is mounted it can only take the dash, disengage, dodge actions. Unless warranted(dm discretion), once unmounted the DM typically controls the mount as an independent creature.
