DnD 5e - Starter Set Adventure - Can someone share templates?

Hi there! completely new here, watching the tutorials for the second time to get the hang of this! I wanted to test it all out with the adventure in the starter set of DnD 5e, and I was trying to get my maps and pregen characters set up, when then I thought "hey, maybe someone did it all before me?" So I'm wondering, is there anyone that has already prepared all the maps and tokens for Roll20, and is willing to share? Not sure if this is even possible, but I suppose it should be? excuse my noobishness, and many thanks to the creators of this tool, it is really impressive! cheers

I know that the artist who did the maps for that module actually has digital versions for sale at a reasonable price. I think my GM paid about $11 for all of the PC maps. Someone posted their own version of the first cave in this forum a week or so ago if you look back.
Thx, I'll have a look around!

Buying elsewhere / Sharing free ones / and building either into your own Roll20 campaign, is the usual method. In other words, even if someone else created the maps, and you got the maps elsewhere, you still need to upload the map & place the map in your game, size it as you want it, set up your own grids and tokens, and so on. Roll20 has another feature called Marketplace where you can buy things . You can buy maps and tokens, for self-set-up, as above. They recently launched another category of products you can buy on Marketplace, called Modules . The idea of modules is, you can buy this product in Roll20 and it provides you with a campaign that's already set-up with the maps, grids, pages, and potentially tokens & handouts & monsters & background text. So far there is not a D&D 5E module in the Marketplace. Hopefully the publisher of D&D, Wizards Of The Coast / Hasbro, will embrace Roll20 and start producing 5E Modules for the Marketplace, and for other Virtual Table Tops. WOTC could sell a lot here, if they do. Some other publishers are starting to do it. You can find Modules for some other games in the Marketplace so far, but none for any edition of D&D yet.
I'd say that's highly unlikely, as WotC's track record with 4E is "we despise published content and will put no effort into it at all". And after stopping all work on digital tools, it's pretty much a big no to any chance of them putting out their content for systems like Roll20. I'd be surprised if 5E had any module content at all, the way they're going.
I see. I guess what I was looking for was a "module" then. Well, I did my own tokens, and uploaded my own maps... it took some time, but it was fun to do!

I'd be surprised if 5E had any module content at all, the way they're going. I don't understand your criticism. Lack of module content the way they are going, is inaccurate. What you put in quote marks is also not an actual quote from them. They already published at least 1 print module for 5E (it came out in the starter set & Fausto started this thread to talk about it) and at least 1 more is scheduled (Tyranny of Dragons or some title like that). I heard mention of 2 more module titles but I don't know more details on those. Regarding digital tools, the lead developer for DnD 5E, Mike Mearls, has stated 'wait and see'. He has also stated that they continuing to maintain 4E's digital tools and will continue to do so for as long as there is a player base using them. I think these factors give some indication that they will be looking at offering products to be used for Virtual Table Tops in the future of the 5E product lifecycle. To me the question is whether they will recognize Roll20 as a prime VTT to support directly by selling in the Marketplace here, or whether they will just offer generic digital items on their own sales-sites that users can import to whatever VTT they choose (The later is something they already do, and often for free).
I'm aware that's not exactly what they said, word for word. But when the entire set of 4E modules were basically badly written chains of encounters based largely on re-using maps they printed back in 3.5 days, and without any real care for plot structure or coherent progression that was the entire H1/2/3 line, and then the trainwreck that Scales of War is, you can tell that their heart is very much not in their published content, especially considering the only really good modules were Epic-tier, or the ones freelance writers published in their online magazines, and how few they released as the edition went on. I mean, KotS was released when 4E came out, and that was a template for their whole business to come. I'd say that being the entity Hasbro is, it's a pretty good estimation to say you can expect the same from 5E's content. I would not tell anyone to expect online tool support like the DDI Character Builder for 5E.

As an aside, there is freely available D&D content that anyone could use to create a D&D module. Unofficial, sure, but still able to be commercially sold. Just don't use these monsters: beholder gauth carrion crawler displacer beast githyanki githzerai kuo-toa mind flayer slaad umber hulk yuan-ti ...Or publish how to make a character or level up, and you're basically good. Some conditions apply, ignorance of the law is not a defence :) Anyway the point is there are ways to get D&D up there without waiting for Hasbro to notice the VTT market, and whoever does it successfully would probably stand to gain from it. It's a sizable market!
It's called the Open Game License, and it covers the RULES contend for 3.5, but does not extend to specifically named places, characters, items, or art copyrighted by Wizards. Anyone could write a module for OGL, or hell they could even print the entire ruleset and sell it if they wanted to (that's actually how Paizo got started) but the latter is unlikely to work as it's, you know, already free.
I also put together a list of community maps that I could find on our Adventurer's League online group: <a href="http://dndonlinecollective.blogspot.com/2014/08/community-made-lost-mine-of-phandelver.html" rel="nofollow">http://dndonlinecollective.blogspot.com/2014/08/community-made-lost-mine-of-phandelver.html</a>

This thread is swiftly going into the Off-Topic realm of discussing or critiquing RPG products, which is outside of what's allowed on the Roll20 forums. If this continues, I'll be forced to close this thread.
