General Discussions and Shenanigans Thread #12

Here is the invite link for the "Caverns of Thracia", game: https://app.roll20.net/join/11561556/HwWr4g First, map is tweaked and ready, aside of a couple spots where two different walls don't line up exactly, because I had to do part of a line freehand, instead of snap to grid.
I am on page 27 of 40 of the chat archive, typing up the game summary for 04/24/2022! On Round #05 of combat with the Bugbears, Bullywugs and Yuan-Ti's in Horan's Compound.
The AD&D Gaming Summary for 04/22/2022 has been sent out! If you did not receive it Please Let Me know!!
I have pledged to the "Blade Runner: RPG" Kickstarter here! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/blade-runner-the-roleplaying-game
I just pledged to "Al, Capone, Vampire #1", which continues the story from "Vampire, Pa", which was based in the Pittsburgh, suburb of Dormont, where I used to live! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jcvaughn/al-capone-vampire-1
There are three new API scripts added to the game: HealthColors.js; Gives players an idea of how badly wounded their adversary is LibInLine.js; (Smart AOE needs this to function): A library that simplifies interaction with the inlinerolls object of a message. Using this library, a scripter can easily obtain various datapoints from any inline roll, such as the resulting total, the resulting value (different for a table versus a die roll), various combinations of the resulting dice (all the dice, only the included dice, only the dropped dice, only the critical successes, only the critical failures, etc.), and, most importantly, the resulting rolltip (the tip that pops up when you hover over an inline roll in the chat window. SmartAOE.js; Speeds up Area of Effect guesswork
I just finished editing down the chat archive from last week's game session. I was working on getting our new player Bryan's wizard character sheet all set up, last night and today. The chat archive is only 23 pages, so maybe I can type the weekly game summary up. It's been a few days now since I did any work on, "Caverns of thracia", though I will try to get more done with it this week!
The weekly Game Summary for 05/15/2022 has just been sent out! If you did not receive it Please Let Me Know and make sure I have your e-mail address!

I messaged the maker of the 5E Paladin Aura API script if he would also make one for the AD&D 2E Simple sheet that we use, so it would display those in the range of the Paladin's Protection from Fear and Protection from Evil Auras. I ordered the new "The Batman" movie and also picked up "Dune" as it was on sale for $15 and both in 4K and should get them Thursday. And even though I clicked an option to send them as One Shipment and get a $1 digital discount, for Amazon Day, They are still sending both in separate packages of which I am sure will be those god awful plastic bags that they so stubbornly use to increase the possibility of damage to your product! Bryan, I will give your Magic-User Baruke a chance to at least copy a few spells from either Emeril's (except wild magic), Rolo's and Xilicien's spell books, if the other wizards are nice enough to let you do so, that way you will have a few more spell options. And of course, the other wizards can copy a few spells from Baruke's spell book. I guess I will allow up to Level 2 spells to be copied. So like either two, first level spells or one 2nd level spell, over a 2 day period, then you go down below the Forbidden City of Thracia and into the Caverns. If you want to copy more spells, that would mean the risk of more assaults upon the mongrelmen compound, which would disrupt the copying and studying of those new spells.
Goodman games, just moments ago announced on Twitch.tv, after updating their current "Dark Tower" stretch goals", that they will be doing Judges Guild, "Caverns of Thracia, next! That will not be out until sometime in 2023. Knowing that they will be expanding it with new content, it makes me want to see about running something else instead. I could, start prepping, "Tomb of the Mummy Bride" and hold off, "Caverns of Thracia", until next year, while continuing to prep it off and on, so that I would just need to add in the new content. Though, just going ahead with Thracia now, would mean, being able to play the next module sooner. The original idea here was to go through, "Dwellers of the Forbidden City", "Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan", "Caverns of Thracia", "Tomb of the Lizard King", "Tomb of the Mummy Bride", Back to "Isle of Dread", stuff with the expanded content from Goodman games, then finally head back to the mainland to go to the, "Lost City of Gaxmoor" with "Calidar: Dreams of Aerie", it's flying circus visiting Gaxmoor. Here is the Goodman Games Update: Goodman Games Announces Caverns of Thracia for 5E and DCC RPG Continuing in the tradition of bringing classic adventures to new life for the next generation of fans of role-playing games, Goodman Games is proud to announce the acquisition of the acclaimed adventure The Caverns of Thracia from Judges Guild, and will republish it in fully converted 5E and DCC RPG editions with a targeted release date of 2023. Coming on the heels of the acquisition of Dark Tower , The Caverns of Thracia is the second acclaimed adventure from designer Jennell Jaquays to join the Goodman Games stable. Both were originally published by Judges Guild. The Caverns of Thracia is a beloved adventure module and rightly hailed as a classic. It was originally designed for parties of levels 2-6, and the 5E conversion will be balanced for similar play. The DCC conversion will also be for higher level characters. We will post additional information as the project continues! Steeped in Greek Mythology, The Caverns of Thracia pits several factions against each other, with the PCs caught in the middle. The module is set among an intricate dungeon and lost city that were once the haven of lizard folk, before it was taken over by evil cultists. Now it is home to the slaves who have revolted against the cultists, and the lingering members of the cult trying to keep control for their own means. From angry Beastmen dwelling beneath the ground to a Cult of Thanatos living above them, dangers await around every corner and down each passage. Jaquay’s use of factions and flexibility in running such a complex adventure has even garnered the nickname of “Jaquaying a dungeon”. Goodman Games plans to keep this tradition alive and well as we bring The Caverns of Thracia to a new audience. The details and historical background provided in the text create a rich setting from which you can build the foundation for many of your own adventures, and one that Goodman Games will use to enhance the setting in the updated release. “My designs for Caverns of Thracia were born from the union of several themes: the three-dimensional nature of large cavern spaces, ancient Greek architecture, and a faction of beast men united together. Much of that can be seen in the cover art that I originally created for the adventure,” stated creator Jaquays. “When I think back on my initial work on Caverns of Thracia , three images or concepts come to mind: the warriors in the cumbersome tubular Mycenaean bronze armor, the haunting figure of the death god Thanatos floating through the halls, and the rope bridges on level one that spanned the higher reaches of caverns whose floors were on the lower levels.” This book will be a fully updated homage to the The Caverns of Thracia , crafted by Jennell Jaquays and originally published by the Judges Guild in 1979. Goodman Games will publish high-quality scans of the original first edition adventure module, plus commentary by tabletop role playing gaming legends and luminaries. Included will be a full fifth edition conversion of the entire adventure as well as a conversion for DCC RPG. The temple and surrounding caverns and tunnels forms not just a fantastic adventure, but a mini-campaign with many hours of classic-style old school fun! Can you survive what waits inside The Caverns of Thracia?
Well, if you have something that you can run instead, I would be willing to put it off until next year
I have inquired about play-testing the new "Caverns of Thracia", since I am prepping it. I guess I can do it for both AD&D and 5E since Goodman game's expanded stuff is in the 5E format, i'm sure they want input for that version. If I do pick another module, there would still be prepping no matter what, however AD&D stuff will take longer, if WotC hasn't made a 5E version yet, because I have to make new maps. "Tomb of the Mummy Bride", should be quicker to prep, due to it having modern maps. I need to have a look at it.
Inquiring about getting an AD&D Paladin Aura API script made by the author of the 5E version, here is what he had to say: "The rules of D&D 5e and the rules of AD&D 1e/2e are extremely different, I don't know the rules of AD&D 1e or 2e, and I'm currently attending university and so don't have the time nor energy to study the rules thoroughly enough to get such a system going. It would take at least 40 hours and I'm not willing to invest the time without any profit. I hope you can understand. All the best!"
Money talks My vote was for "Mummy Bride" next so thats fine with me
Looking at what I had initially put down in the "Jungle Tomb of the Mummy Bride", I compared it to maps in the recently released version and they are the same. So, that means, just creating character sheets for the monsters and NPCs and then tokens for them. I will compare the OSR and 5E versions and put in whatever is missing while combining the information. As to the "Caverns of Thracia", I am working on map 2C which is the last sub-level map for level 2. I guess I will just concentrate on making the maps for Thracia, while I make the monster/npc sheets for "...Mummy Bride".
Ok, I see I had already, posted encounter information into "Jungle Tomb of the Mummy Bride" and I just need to put the monsters in and tokens down. Then I will look and see what if any new encounter decriptions there are and add them in plus any new encounters.
I think I am going to just edit down the chat archive and just slap on the opening and ending loot and XP information at the end, from the regular weekly summary and that will be the weekly summary for now. It takes an hour to edit down the chat archive, maybe a little more sometimes and it takes at least 4 hours to type up a summary from it. With the ASL class I am taking I need more time to review the videos and memorize it all. That plus I am prepping both "Jungle Tomb of the Mummy Bride" and "Caverns of Thracia" for this AD&D game, with the chance we might get to playtest the new stuff for "Caverns of Thracia" thanks to Goodman Games. Right now I can concentrate on just the actual temple location since it is right in the Forbidden City. Other stuff from, "...Mummy Bride" would be in other spots on the Isle of Dread. The 5E game has, "RL1 & 2: Craft Dungeon and Charnel Pits of Reynaldo Lazendry", "Sleeping Dragon's Wake" and Divine Contention", prepped to play, unless I may have overlooked some things for the last two.
Ok, for tomorrow's game session, if we complete the two remaining encounter locations, Horan's compound and the temple infected with phase spiders.I will then transfer over the character sheets into the Mummy Bride adventure module. Then we work out any kinks such as broken calls to roll or spell macros. I am still in the process of making sheets for the monsters/npcs and need to put then onto the maps. I can try to get at least the first map set up then maybe we can start it tomorrow evening. Otherwise we start it next week. I am typing up the game summary for last Saturday's game since we did not game today and I need to see if Mark G. can come into the game and get his character made before game time tomorrow. Any time left, then I try to type up last Sunday's game summary and work on Mummy Bride. Here is the link into the "Jungle Tomb of the Mummy Bride" module: https://app.roll20.net/join/9023390/a1gepw
I have not yet heard from Mark G. , regarding getting his character made! Right now would be a good time if possible!
Ok, right now I am going to try and set up the first map of, "Jungle Tomb of the Mummy Bride". Hopefully, if Mark G., responds, we can get his character set-up before the game. If he doesn't looks like I have to boot him for being a Troll! Game Summary from the last session on 05/22/2022, still needs worked on, as well, but those first two things are the priority.
Buddy, wants to play through, "Divine Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2", on Steam. We had played though most of the 2nd one then hit a brick wall and couldn't go any farther! So, now if we can find two more players, the idea is to play through both games with 4 in the party. So if you have the games on Steam or might get them during the summer sale, let me know and we can figure out when to play!
Ok, for "Jungle Tomb of the Mummy Bride", I have about 10 more encounter areas to work on for the original temple maps and a few more monsters. I first pasted in the encounter information from the 5E version of the module. Then I go back and add in any new details provided in the new Dungeon Crawl Classics version of the module. Same way with the monsters and npc's. Then it is converted to AD&D. After that I will go back and make sure all of the monsters sheets are properly filled in for playing. I think I might redo the temple maps because the player maps provided to me by the author do not line up on the roll20 grid no matter what I try to do. There are no grid marks on the map to even help try in lining up the grids. So, I may go into Dungeonographer and make new maps, since there are even things like the mention of doorways but no doors, solid wall but no door, or even no wall when there should be one. There is one level from the recent new Dungeon Crawl Classics version which is a new level and that one needs to be made in Dungeonographer. Then I need to add in the area encounters information and monster sheets for it. I then need to copy / paste over the spells, weapons, and abilities macros from the current module into Mummy Bride. The spells handout sheets and player character sheets can be moved via the Transmorgrifier, since they are not stored in the DM Journal. Not sure why Roll20, doesn't have the Transmorgrifier, move the DM journal stuff, between different games yet, but it sure would help a lot! I still haven't touched the Weekly summary stuff for the last two session as of yet, so they need done as well!
Your doing good work DM and we all appreciate it, plus it keeps you out of trouble hehe "I'm not causing any trouble, I'm busy playing Dungeons and Dragons" :D
Ok, I copied over everyone's spell macros into the "...Mummy Bride", module now. Mark G's., Vanorin, should be able to cast all his magic-user spells in the, "...Mummy Bride" game, so test it all out Mark when you get the chance! Next up, the player characters' weapons macros. I did work on the 1st map for, "...Mummy Bride" in Dungeonographer, so now the scale will display correctly, if I use the map. Just need to see if I can add some more elements to it based on area descriptions and what I can find to use. I had to use Egyptain themed stuff for the Aztec pyramid, but it works. I also need to get the module's artwork into the game. it is all already screen captured. They just need trimmed and loaded into the game. That all said, I need to figure out the Experience Points (XP) totals from the previous two sessions and get it all added up for you all!
Again, as a reminder, here is the link into the "Jungle Tomb of the Mummy Bride", Adventure Module: https://app.roll20.net/join/9023390/a1gepw We might be able to finish the "...Forbidden City" module, tonight at the phase spider infected temple, then we transfer over the character sheets, check to see if macros are working, then we can begin the excursion into the pyramid!
