[LFM] DM LFM for homebrew campaign.

I am looking for 3-4 players to join a brand new long form homebrew campaign. I have been playing DND since I was a teenager, and have currently been running 5e for about 5 years. I tend to run fairly polished campaigns with lots of preparation. Everyone seems to enjoy the sessions.  I also have a discord server for communication. It serves as a place to discuss character ideas, battle strategies, keeping notes and information and other important things. Sessions would be on Sundays, and would be in CENTRAL US time usually from 7-10ish pm, so please consider that when applying. I would prefer to find players with experience in at least one campaign in 5e and experience on Roll20 We can use cameras if all players are willing, but a good working mic and internet is a must. I do not have material on roll20, but use dnd beyond for resources. If interested or you want more information please see below   Please Apply Here, I'll hopefully pick players within the next week or so, so that I can workshop with the group and get everyone situated for the first session. A session 0 will be held depending on the group preference to go over any questions and to get to know each other. Kindly answer the following questions, I'm not looking for certain answers, but want to have a feel for the experience and preferences of the players I pick. Where are you from (State or Country)? How long have you been playing DnD or is this your first try at it? Have you ever DM'd yourself before? What's the longest campaign you've been a part of? Rank these four scenarios 1-4 in order of which you like best, 1 being the best. A dungeon delve with danger at every corner. Restoring a rift between two political parties. Uncovering the secrets of a lost empire. Trekking through the wilderness to explore and adventure.   What's the best part about DnD in your opinion? Your party is attempting to sneak and is caught by a guard. What do you do? How do you feel about the possibility of your character not surviving an encounter i.e. permadeaths? How much of the story would you expect to be entirely DM driven, and how much of it would you like to be about specific player characters and their personal backstories?  What character class do you enjoy playing or would like to play and how much experience you have with that class; please also provide a short character concept/build for the campaign.

Hi there. Here goes nothing. Where are you from (State or Country)?   California. How long have you been playing DnD or is this your first try at it?   Um, since whenever Roll20 started, just about. I think that's about nine years. Have you ever DM'd yourself before?   Tried to do a one-shot waaaay back in Ye Olde 4e Days. I don't think my brain is wired for it, alas. What's the longest campaign you've been a part of?   I was in a couple of Numenera campaigns that each went about a year. (Btw: we need more Numenera around here. That game is cool too. Just saying.) Rank these four scenarios 1-4 in order of which you like best, 1 being the best.   Well, all of these sound good to me, but if I must... A dungeon delve with danger at every corner.  3. Restoring a rift between two political parties. 2. Uncovering the secrets of a lost empire.  1. Trekking through the wilderness to explore and adventure.  4.   What's the best part about DnD in your opinion?   Well, it's really cool when the story starts rolling along organically and nobody, even the DM, knows what could happen next. Super-short example: I once had a minor encounter with a nameless NPC who was supposed to disappear in ten minutes, but I unknowingly did something the DM wasn't ready for, he just rolled with it, and that led to a whole improvised sideplot where said NPC became my PC's apprentice and a major supporting character for the rest of the game. Your party is attempting to sneak and is caught by a guard. What do you do?   If it's the character I've currently got in mind: bribe him into calling it an early night if I can, try to knock him out quietly if I can't. (Alternatively: see if my sprite familiar can tranq-dart him from behind.)(See the "class" bit for details.) How do you feel about the possibility of your character not surviving an encounter i.e. permadeaths?   I've long been on-record as being okay with PC deaths, provided only that the game isn't a character meat-grinder where people are dropping on an hourly basis--it's hard to tell a coherent story, after all, when the characters keep getting replaced. Also, I think it softens the blow if they at least get to go out doing something awesome, like Boromir hanging on long enough to tell Aragorn what happened to Merry and Pippin. One time my druid soloed a black dragon, drawing its attention so the rest of the party could evacuate the village and escape--that is, to date, the most metal death scene I've ever had. I didn't even mind dying (especially since my druid almost  beat it). How much of the story would you expect to be entirely DM driven, and how much of it would you like to be about specific player characters and their personal backstories?   Ummm...let's call it 60-40. I'm okay with the DM being in the driver's seat, since they're doing so much work to make the game happen. I do like it when he/she figures out how to fold each of the characters' backgrounds into the Main Overarching Plot, though, so that each PC can dig into their own individual stories while also moving the larger story along. Personally, I tend to write my character backstories with as many dangling threads as possible, to (hopefully) make it easier for the DM to tie it in. What character class do you enjoy playing or would like to play and how much experience you have with that class; please also provide a short character concept/build for the campaign.   I've been playing 5e since it came out, and I've only ever gotten to try warlock once, for an improvised one-shot, so I'd like to give it a chance. I've had this idea for a while, for an Archfey warlock with the Pact of the Chain and a sprite familiar--super short version is that he was a guard defending a village from marauding orcs, the village held out for almost two months before finally being overrun, and he made the pact in order to gain the power to escape enslavement. (I've got a whole separate backstory for Anemone the sprite and her Archfey mistress, btw.)(Alternatively, I've got a bit of a druid idea, if that'd be more useful to the party.) Also btw: I've got a friend who's also been on the lookout for a new game, and I've brought this to her attention too. Since there's room. XD
Where are you from (State or Country)? US Central Time zone area. Prefer not to give specific information like that online. If the group works out I'm sure I'll say where I'm from at some point. How long have you been playing DnD or is this your first try at it? I've been playing since 3.5 but not consistently. It's been 16 years since I started playing DND. But I've only played for maybe about 4 years in total between breaks.  Have you ever DM'd yourself before? Yes several times. Being the resident DND nerd means almost everyone I know who plays I taught so I've run a lot of low level adventures. Highest I ever DM'ed was up to level 7 or 8. What's the longest campaign you've been a part of? Probably around 8 months. A friend was running a Pathfinder module and we got to level 7.  Rank these four scenarios 1-4 in order of which you like best, 1 being the best. A dungeon delve with danger at every corner. 4 I'm not much for meat grinders.  Restoring a rift between two political parties. 3 maybe 2 depending on how you handle social situations.  Uncovering the secrets of a lost empire. Probably 1 since I can see this having a good mix of Rap and combat.  Trekking through the wilderness to explore and adventure. 2 only coming under the lost empire hook since trekking through the wilderness seems a little boring if. It prepared correctly.    What's the best part about DnD in your opinion? Being able to write, act, and develop stories and characters. Cool epic moments of heroism and being able to do whatever you want without any real world consequences. It's wish fulfilment at it's best. Your party is attempting to sneak and is caught by a guard. What do you do? Well I'm probably invisible so I let the party be taken away then try to break them out. If I'm seen somehow then I probably cast charm person or something. How do you feel about the possibility of your character not surviving an encounter i.e. permadeaths? I'm okay with it. Though if I feel like an encounter is stacked against the party or a particular player I will call DMs on that. Especially if it seems they are aiming to kill someone rather than have fun. Basically I want DND to be a cooperative story telling game but if the DM makes it competitive I become competitive.  How much of the story would you expect to be entirely DM driven, and how much of it would you like to be about specific player characters and their personal backstories?  Ideally character stories can be interwoven into the over plot the DM has planned so that it doesn't seem like we are shifting story beats. That being said if that's not possible then probably 70/30 or 60/40 DM/PC story. I love PC stories but unless a player is willing to share the spotlight they can make the game feel a bit to focused on certain characters from time to time. What character class do you enjoy playing or would like to play and how much experience you have with that class; please also provide a short character concept/build for the campaign. I don't enjoy playing one particular class tbh as I like to make a character and then marry the character concept to a class. I like to fill roles needed for a party but for the sake of this application I'll say I'll play a Human Wizard with the Scribe subclass. He would be a scholar who studies the elemental planes and specializes in dealing damage in the 4 major elemental types. He would begin his journey to aquire knowledge on the elemental planes which may lead him down a discovery or two.
Where are you from (State or Country)? Western Australia, the time works really well for me. How long have you been playing DnD or is this your first try at it? I have been playing 5e since 2015. Have you ever DM'd yourself before? I have DM'd several games before and currently DM one. What's the longest campaign you've been a part of? The longest campaign has been about a year and a half. Rank these four scenarios 1-4 in order of which you like best, 1 being the best. 1. Trekking through the wilderness to explore and adventure. 2. Restoring a rift between two political parties. 3. Uncovering the secrets of a lost empire. 4. A dungeon delve with danger at every corner.   What's the best part about DnD in your opinion? Creating a rich character to explore a rich world with a group of friends. Your party is attempting to sneak and is caught by a guard. What do you do? Depends on the character I am playing, but as a default I would try bluff our way out of trouble  How do you feel about the possibility of your character not surviving an encounter i.e. permadeaths? I am perfectly fine with it, honestly games where permadeath is not a thing is a little boring, it takes the risk out of combat if as a player I know my character won't die. How much of the story would you expect to be entirely DM driven, and how much of it would you like to be about specific player characters and their personal backstories? A healthy mix of the two is best, a core solid story with side plots or interwoven plotlines from the player backstories makes for a fun and enriching time.   What character class do you enjoy playing or would like to play and how much experience you have with that class; please also provide a short character concept/build for the campaign. I prefer playing either a frontline heavy hitter or a control wizard, my most experienced class is monk which I have played easily twice as much as I have any other class. For a concept character for this campaign, I like to get a grip of the world before doing anything concrete to make my characters really connect with the world, but to start I was considering a centaur barbarian warrior whose tribe was attacked and him captured by slavers. One way or another he got his freedom and now is paying off a hefty debt, turning to the life of an adventurer to both escape his past and hopefully find someone from his family that survived.
Where are you from (State or Country)? Florida. How long have you been playing DnD or is this your first try at it?    I have been playing DnD since around 2017. Have you ever DM'd yourself before? Yes, the last game I was in I DMed, which went on for about 2 years. It was  Tomb of Annihilations game that spun off into kind of my own home brew setting / game. It ended about 6 months ago because we all eventually had conflicting commitments come up. What's the longest campaign you've been a part of?    I have been a part of a couple campaigns that have all lasted about a year plus, but my longest campaign was about 2 years long. Rank these four scenarios 1-4 in order of which you like best, 1 being the best. A dungeon delve with danger at every corner. 3 Restoring a rift between two political parties. 2 Uncovering the secrets of a lost empire. 1 Trekking through the wilderness to explore and adventure. 4   What's the best part about DnD in your opinion? The freedom to make decisions and have it genuinely effect the outcome of the world, as your decisions change the world changes. I think, unlike other games, that is the most interesting part of DnD as a whole. Your party is attempting to sneak and is caught by a guard. What do you do? Depends one the character I am playing to be honest; however, the type of character I would normally play would try and either talk their way out of it, then falling back on either charming or knocking them out if other options were to fail. How do you feel about the possibility of your character not surviving an encounter i.e. permadeaths? I think character death is a part of the game. Saying that, I don't think anyone is ever happy  when their character dies, but if it is from the consequences of the players decisions it is fdair game. Death tends to cement the game and player decision in "reality" and makes decisions more impactful. How much of the story would you expect to be entirely DM driven, and how much of it would you like to be about specific player characters and their personal backstories? I I would try and come up with backstories that give the DM the opportunity to involve them in the story somehow, either my character would have the main objective the party has but maybe would also have goals of their own that coincide with the Party's. I would not say it should be entirely DM driven, the players, in my opinion, are responsible for driving the story forward as well. What character class do you enjoy playing or would like to play and how much experience you have with that class; please also provide a short character concept/build for the campaign. I have a few characters I would like to play; however, I am willing to fill, in the sense I am willing to play what makes the most sense for the team if everyone else wanted to play certain roles. I have played several characters over the years for different duration; I have played a wizard (1-2 years), two paladins (probably 6 months ea), a fighter (2 years), a rogue (1.5 years), and a few others in one shots here and there.  Character Concept: I would like to probably like to play a College of Lore Bard and I imagine playing a half elf who was raised by wealthier parents who is somewhat naive, exploring the world and wanting to write tales, or poetry, of his adventures. Someone who has, more or less, been sheltered and has some  experience in his abilities of directing the flows of magic he can naturally play with his talents; however, this all depends on the level the campaign starts at. I am happy to come up with a much more in depth background and personality for the character if we decide to play together. Saying that, I am happy to play other characters if the party decides that si what they want, some other classes I have been wanting to playu for a while have been a warlock/paldin multi class, cleric, or druid for a while. I lean towards bard right now, but would be glad to play something else. Contact If this sounds good, feel free to contact me over Discord if you want to talk some more! illann#2065

I am from Arkansas. I have been playing dnd for two years. I have DM'd a game before that lasted a year, unfortunately my players became to busy to continue. The longest campaign I have been a part of was a year.  A dungeon delve with danger at every corner. 2 Restoring a rift between two political parties. 4 Uncovering the secrets of a lost empire. 1 Trekking through the wilderness to explore and adventure. 3 The best part of dnd for me is the ability to create a character and watch it grow. Your party is attempting to sneak and is caught by a guard. What do you do? Depending on the circumstances and the classes, I would attempt to defuse the situation.  How do you feel about the possibility of your character not surviving an encounter i.e. permadeaths? It adds to the story element a great deal, however I would try to prevent it to the best of my ability. How much of the story would you expect to be entirely DM driven, and how much of it would you like to be about specific player characters and their personal backstories? I think a 50/50 mix is good. What character class do you enjoy playing or would like to play and how much experience you have with that class; please also provide a short character concept/build for the campaign. I love and have experience with Paladins and Monks. I think I would like to play a half elf paladin named Igan that serves the goddess of the moon Lunara, and if you wouldn't like a paladin, I also have a goblin monk named Krag that would be fun. I look forward to hearing from you if I make the cut. Discord: Untamedwolf11#4424
Where are you from (State or Country)?    Denmark - Northern Europe How long have you been playing DnD or is this your first try at it?    I haven't played DnD - but as a young teen I played X-Com Tabletop. I have played a lot of turnbased games, such as Pathfinder, Pillar of Creation, Divinity, Baldur's Gate etc. so I am very familiar with a lot of the principles of DnD. Have you ever DM'd yourself before?    No - but I want to. I love doing characters and voices, but I feel like I need to experience more DnD in order to do it myself. What's the longest campaign you've been a part of?   The X-Com campaign I was in lasted for 6 hours a week for a month. Rank these four scenarios 1-4 in order of which you like best, 1 being the best.    A dungeon delve with danger at every corner.  4 Restoring a rift between two political parties.  3 Uncovering the secrets of a lost empire.  2 Trekking through the wilderness to explore and adventure.  1 What's the best part about DnD in your opinion?   For me it's really fun to try and play a character truthfully. If you've made the character dumb, if you've made them a coward, it's fun to actually play it out in the game. I loved the decision making that one had to do as a team as well. Your party is attempting to sneak and is caught by a guard. What do you do?    Well considering I'd prefer to play a charming bard, I'd attempt to use a little bit of charismatics and performance to maybe turn him friendly. How do you feel about the possibility of your character not surviving an encounter i.e. permadeaths?    Hmmm for the event I'd be fine with a permadeath. I would probably still use the character in other adventures though :D  How much of the story would you expect to be entirely DM driven, and how much of it would you like to be about specific player characters and their personal backstories?    Hard to clearly define I think. I'd want there to be opportunity to go a little bit beyond what the DM might have planned, but I'd understand if the DM didn't have something planned for spontaneous decision and therefore couldn't work with it. I'd like the main story to be driven by the DM, through interaction with NPCs etc. :) What character class do you enjoy playing or would like to play and how much experience you have with that class; please also provide a short character concept/build for the campaign.    I've got a human bard noble in mind. He's supposed to be an old guy, who lost everything his family created and squandered the wealth. However, still very proud of himself, despite being a poor man at current time of his life. I don't have a lot of experience, but I understand the concepts of the buffing and healing aspects of a bard. Found it very interesting to try out, which is why I wanted to play one :)  Discord - Kanj#4623

Where are you from (State or Country)? California How long have you been playing DnD or is this your first try at it? I've been playing for 10+ years across systems Have you ever DM'd yourself before? Once! What's the longest campaign you've been a part of? 2 Years, it ended because of unrelated things to the group Rank these four scenarios 1-4 in order of which you like best, 1 being the best. A dungeon delve with danger at every corner. (2) Restoring a rift between two political parties.(3) Uncovering the secrets of a lost empire.(4) Trekking through the wilderness to explore and adventure.(1) What's the best part about DnD in your opinion? -Getting to know my party and the world a DM has set up and writing a new story with everyone. Your party is attempting to sneak and is caught by a guard. What do you do? -Depending on my character, though knowing myself, I typically like to distract and let my party escape, and figure out how to get out of it with my party. How do you feel about the possibility of your character not surviving an encounter i.e. permadeaths? -Fine with me! Death happens. It may not always seem fair but I trust dms not to punish me with death, generally! How much of the story would you expect to be entirely DM driven, and how much of it would you like to be about specific player characters and their personal backstories?  -50/50 is generally what I see works. I like personal backstories, but I LOVE DM inclusion. I love to integrate with the world and respect what my dm has prepared. What character class do you enjoy playing or would like to play and how much experience you have with that class; please also provide a short character concept/build for the campaign. I love rogues, wizards, and warlocks, but I am open to anything and really like playing with subclasses. A character I would love to bring to the table is a small, chaotic neutral Tiefling Blood Hunter who gets into a lot of mischief and is fiercely protective of the people she considers family, which are a lot of people. Makes connections quickly, enjoys traveling and solving problems for people. I'd also consider making her a paladin or Warlock. Thanks for considering! princevlad#7872
