Starting a new weekly group

Hi I'm looking to start/join a weekly (D&D) gaming group. Possible playing on a Thursday or Friday evening (GMT) I don't mind DM'ing or being a playing. I should point out I don't have a storyline or adventure in mind, if people are interested, we can together decide what we want to play, and who is going to DM. I currently play a couple of campaigns at the weekend (one as a player, the other as the DM) but it is getting increasingly difficult for people to turn up, or they just cancel minutes before the session starts. Basically I'm just looking for a group that wants to play regularly.
If I was to DM, I could run one of the starter sets (Lost Mines of Phandelver, or The Dragons of Stormwreck Isles), these are ideal for new players. I also have Journey through the Radiant Citadel as well as Hoard of the Dragon Queen, that I'd be open to running
Hi Peter, a couple are putting together a group to play on Friday evenings (est. start time 5:30 EST) for about 4 hrs. If that time frame works for you, check out my post: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/11388187/oh-where-oh-where-art-thou-dot-dot-dot-a-solid-group-or-long-term-campaign-that-would-play-a-published-game-on-a-weekend-evening I'm also trying to bring in Arillion and Brain Z. from this post: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/11371046/old-player-looking-for-new-game Let me know what you think. ~Sherlock
Ah man, would have been perfect. But I live in the UK, we've got 5 hours on you I think. Half 10 is a little late to start a game for me. Thanks for replying though. I enjoyed your post further down in the forum.... very debonair
Hi Peter, I'm UK based (Swansea) and would really like to join as a player. What systems do you play? As an over-50 year old I have played in very many systems, currently prefer 5e.
5e is what I know, have read through a few other systems, but 5e is the one I'm most confident with. I'm from a small town in Cambridgeshire, proper farming country. What's you preferred gaming style, combat heavy, lots of roleplay. I like a good mix of both. Big on story but nothing to serious
I tend to lean more towards roll-playing as opposed to role-playing when online, but as long as there is the prospect of at least one combat a night I am happy to play whatever style is required. Heavy preference for avoiding player-vs-player combat (here to have fun, after all, and PvP means at least one person will end up unhappy). Occasionally play evil alignment (long game outlook) but LG/NG are my go-to alignments.
When I normally DM, I normally have 1 combat session as a minimum, could be up to 3 depending on the the lethality. Sessions tend to run for about 4 hours (which I'm told is quite long for a 5e session) I think it's looking like I'm gunna DM, I was thinking about running one of the starter adventures, and then maybe carry one from there. I might create a game and list it on the 'Join a game' section and fill out the rest of the space's there. I've reached out to a few people on the forums that are looking for games as well. Is there an AP that you'd prefer to play? I tend to do around 5-10 prep for each session, but that's mainly things like handouts, tokens, macros and maps, its nice to have a module to work off.
Well, online I normally play roll20 for the graphics, character sheets, movement etc and use Discord for the group chat function. Happy to adjust to any system, but be warned that the luddite in me has problems using the computer for conversation (I run Discord on my phone whilst having Roll20 on my computer lol)
That's the same set up I use, apart from I run Discord off my computer. I have a pro account so I tend to do a little background API and macro business just to make everything more streamlined (Token buttons for initiative, long and short rests, automatic spell slot/ammo tracking that sort of thing) but if people want to uses physical dice that's cool to. I was thinking The Dragons of Stormwreck Isles or Lost Mines of Phandelver, both short introductory campaigns.

Sounds great to me - as far as I know I have not played either of those (lots of home-brewed campaigns, so DM may well have built either or both into their existing worlds under another name). I tend to have lots automated too - normally skills, weapons, damage, spells, crits, that kind of thing. Currently manually track ammo and spell slots, but automate short/long rest resets.
Nice, I'll give the other people I've reached out to a couple days to respond then I list the game on 'join a game' to fill any remaining spots

Brill. How do we keep/get in touch? A bit reluctant to post my telephone number on this forum, not sure how to contact via Roll20 (only ever use it for gaming purposes that others have invited me to). Just worked out my Discord ID, so you could contact me there? Niknokuitueu#5689, Nigel to my friends.
Feel free to add me: Iron Tears#6235 been looking for a game for a while. im pretty adaptive and wont mind to run a oneshot from time to time.
Discord is good....it took me ages to figure out mine user name as well. Bit of a dinosaurs when it comes to stuff like that. I'll make a new group on discord

Hello Everyone - great to see interest in a group from GMT or Europe timezones. If any of you might be interested in Sci-Fi fantasy and/or cyberpunk settings (using D&D rulesets so nothing wildly different) I am looking for a few players to join our Thursday night group - details here . New players are very welcome. If it interests any of you, please DM me for more info. Good luck, and I hope you all find a game/long-term group soon! Cheers.
Not sure how married you are to DnD, but I'm creating a group for a long term Pathfinder 2e campaign based on 13th Age's Eyes of the Stone Thief. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/366753/eyes-of-the-stone-thief for more info.
