New to D&D

So with all the different rules (3, 3.5, 4, Path, etc) I am very confused on what to play as a newb. I do have a basic understanding of the game, just not a preference for one game type or another which makes it hard to decide on games... Thank you in advance.

Jump on the 5E bandwagon

Will not lie and say I haven't thought about it, just a bad habit of mine to listen when there is a lot to choose from. Edit: So 5e it is then!

It's popularity is growing. You can get the basic beginners rules for free. Those are the top two points of why I suggested 5E.

[Good Points] Free Basic Rules PDF ( Link) Free Basic Rules DM Guide ( Link ) New Player Base so everyone's learning it too Compared to PF, 3.5, etc 5e uses much simpler combat mechanics [Not So Good Points] It's new so there aren't really established interpretations of the rules, so potential arguing over rules Lack of Modules, since it's brand new there's VERY few modules out yet Multiple versions of the Rules(Basic, PHB, Alpha releases) that might conflict

Thank you I got the PHB for 5e. Another not so good point is that not all the handbooks are out like the others.
