Export and import maps

Hey,

Something that kills me to is to recreate the same map twice. I DM two Curse of Strahd games, so when I create a map in one game, I have to redo it again in the other game.

I'm requesting a way to be able to export a map, with it's dynamic lighting, so that I can then import it in another game. I understand it may be tricky to export the tokens as well, as one token that belongs to one game may not belong to another, but the time saved in just importing the map and it's lighting would be so amazing.

Cheers!

Stefan Novak

Hi Stefan,

Since you have a Pro account, you can use Transmogrifier to copy maps between games that you create. When you copy the map this way, it will copy the all layers (Token, GM, DL and Map) as well as all tokens, notes, etc.

You can find Transmogrifier in any of your games under Miscellaneous under the settings tab.

Thank you so much Rick, I had no idea!!

I'm going to honor you in my CoS game with an NPC called Rick. A who I will try my best to not get horribly killed by Strahd.

There are few higher honors!

Please have him die in either a classically heroic or unspeakably horrible manner. Either way, something extreme. :)

How about giving us the ability to Import and Export maps to a file outside Roll20 so that I can edit it with something like Gimp. Right now the only way I know of to get a map out of Roll20 is to do a screen shot and that is very limited. Also large maps often are too large to upload. (Try working with some of the maps in DotMM such as Skullport.)

On the map that you want to download, go to the map layer, select the map, then type Shift-Z. Right-click on the zoomed image and select Save image as ... This will let you save the map to your computer. This will copy only the map image, not any tokens, notes or DL information.

You can do this with any graphic image on a map page. Also, when you Shift-Z on an image, the zoomed view appears to all players until you or they type ESC or click outside the image.

Rick A. Thanks but that doesn't work for me because my maps are mostly made using tile sets. On the map layer I am only able to select on tile at a time. If I use Ctrl-A to select all the tiles I then cannot use Shift-Z.

Hm, if you are DMing two  Curse of Strahd game so create the whole campaign from beginning to end, then copy the whole room so you only do the job once and then have a whole copy of the campaign. No need to run both games in one room.

@Hultz, https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/r20exporter/apbhfinbjilbkljgcnjjagecnciphnoi use this one to export your files out of roll20
