Chat achive width issue

The width of the chat archive seems to be really narrow compared to before. It was originally 100rem, but now it's narrowed to 21rem. It's a bug, right?

Hi Mouse! I just checked my own campaign's chat log and it seems to stretch the width of the window. Are you talking about something other than the external chat log found under the Campaign Details "Content" dropdown? If so, what browser are you using? I'll try to repro.

Not Chat log, It's Chat Archive. I use Chrome.

On firefox the chats have are fixed width. Same on Chrome

Yes, I too am seeing the Chat Archive has switched to a very narrow column. I see it in both Chrome and Firefox (I also see it that way in Safari, but while Safari is not an officially supported browser for the game, presumably the browser requirements do not apply to the Roll20 web site). Looking at the source the Chat Archive content has a new "max-width:21.25rem" style applied to the content.

Wait, so this is fixed, not bug? It's quite uncomfortable to see it that wide.

For me, in 5e by Roll20 games it looks the same as it always has, the way Martijn shows it up above.  My guess, it is a bug fix for the Marvel character sheet which was abnormally wide.

When I tested before my first post above, I was getting browser window width, Now (as of my second post above) it is restricted to 21.25 rem. That value is assigned as a style local to the actual archive page (defined in the div, not pulled from the master CSS). Sheet should not come into it, unless it was a sitewide change to account for a single sheet, which doesn't sound proper. Hmm.

When the Marvel sheet came out I tested the Archive with the Marvel Sheet vs the 5e by Roll20 sheet.  In the game with the 5e by Roll20 sheet it looked like the screenshot above.  In the game with the Marvel sheet it was the width of the browser.  I reported that to the Devs, perhaps they made a change?  Edit: Confirmed that the Marvel sheet's archive now behaves like I would expect, like the 5e by Roll20 archive does (ie. as the screenshot above) which is how I have seen the Archive for....forever. 

I'm having the same issue, one narrow column in the archive. It extends to when I try to print (to PDF) too, leaving about 2/3rds of each page as whitespace.

So, I once created a character that was able to make about 2500 attack rolls in 1 turn. I created an excel sheet just to be able to calculate what the correct damage roll formula should be... Having these past rolls visible in the chat lags the game very much. If I delete the chat history and log back in, it re-appears. Is there any solution to this?

You can   clear the Chat Archive  (which is different from  clearing your current Chat Log ). A GM might want to copy/back up the Chat Archive before the Creator clears it. If you are the GM, you can also hide the post (click the little popup to the right of the post). I'm not sure if that would reduce lag, but it would reduce clutter.

My chat archive's have always been the entire width of the browser screen, I have also recently had them narrow down to the same width as if it was the chat log. As has my husband I've never had this issue before, as it's always been the width of the browser (100%, in effect). Yes, I can change it in the source, but it's extremely frustrating to have to do every time I open or refresh the chat archive. We shouldn't have to clear it for this to hopefully fix itself. It's been around 5 days for me since this became a problem, and I'm wondering if there was an update that bugged it.

So odd hearing all the folks that had the chat archive as the entire width. For me it was always narrow. I wonder what the difference was.

Same issue. The narrow archive is quite annoying. Previously it has always been fitting to the whole page (using firefox and chrome). I just now noticed it only taking a narrow leftmost third of the page - which apparenly increases the number of pages when you want to print it by a factor of 3. Not fun (I have 2099 pages campaign log - which is not blown up to over 5000 pages. Definitely NOT fun.) Is there a way to change this back to how it was?

Submit a bug report, that's what I did. The Roll20 team said that it's on their radar, but the more bug reports, the higher the prioritisation. Kathrin M. said: Same issue. In the meantime, while not perfect, you can open up the developer tools to fix the width as follows: Press F12 Go down slightly until you find the one that says "textchatcontainer" (should highlight the entire chat log when you hover over it) Open that and double click on the line that says "max-width" Highlight the "21.25rem" Change to "100%" Press F12 That will fix the width until the next time you open or refresh the chat log. Everytime I come back to R20 it seems like something else annoying has appeared. Cramming everything to the left instead of using the full screen real estate is frustrating.
