Hello my name is (or Isn't!) ______________.

Often when playing an RPG, strangers don't know your name off-hand. Currently, there isn't a way in chat to control who gets this knowledge and how. My suggestion: As part of a character profile, the ability to set the following: Default Name (For strangers): When you chat, this name appears for strangers until you decide otherwise. Familiar Name: Enter A familiar name and another character's name and they will see your chat messages with this name. Familiar Name: (same as above, modular and scalable for number of players in the campaign). Example: The campaign has just begun, and the GM has set the stage. You meet in a tavern. There in the corner you will find one of your companions for the upcoming quest. You go to introduce yourself. You: Hi, I hear we are to be teammates. Rogue: ... You: Do you have a name, reticent adventurer? Luc: It's Luc to you. In a dungeon, one of your comrades has grown suddenly nervous as you approach the alter to some forgotten deity. They had just had this conversation: Comrade: Luc, you seem to be very familiar with this place. You're not scared at all. Luc: ... Comrade: What treasure could be here that you know about and we've never heard of? Lucifer: Your deaths, for I am the prince of death!! Your comrade decides to share with the group this revelation, and from this point forward "Luc" appears as "Lucifer" in chat (player adjusts settings to reflect the revealed status to the party). This makes roleplay more lifelike, and allows characters to keep their "true" identities hidden if they wish to. It would spoil the fun if everyone knew from the start as soon as any group chat took place. The player of Luc would have the following settings: Default Name: Rogue later- Default Name: Rogue Familiar Name: Luc, You Familar Name: Lucifer, Comrade later- Default Name: Rogue Familiar Name: Lucifer, You, Comrade
adding clarification: in a group chat, anyone who has not been granted a familiar name would see the character's default name in chat.
This seems nit picky.
