Low-Fantasy D&D 5e — Story-First; Heavy RP; Narrative-Driven; Consequence-Driven; Weekly; Friday at 8pm CST

I am recruiting for a story-first, realism-focused D&D 5e campaign with heavy homebrew and very limited magic . This is not a traditional heroic fantasy or power-driven campaign. It is designed for players who enjoy immersion, consequence, moral ambiguity, and character-driven storytelling . What to Expect Narrative-focused, player-driven play Your choices shape the world; there is no railroading. Low-magic world Magic is rare, dangerous, and only accessible through risky patron pacts. Grounded realism Actions have lasting consequences. Social, political, and legal systems respond logically. Combat is rare, fast, and lethal Violence is consequential, not routine. Heavy roleplay & character growth Literate RP, in-character dialogue, and personal arcs are central. Homebrew setting No official D&D lore, no humans, original cultures and races. Beginner-friendly , but requires maturity, engagement, and thoughtful play. This Campaign IS For You If: You enjoy deep, character-driven storytelling You enjoy realistic worlds with moral weight You enjoy heavy roleplay (textual or verbal) You enjoy lore-rich settings and collaborative plotting You prefer political intrigue, mystery, immersion and suspense This Campaign Is NOT For You If: You enjoy optimization, min-maxing, or build-focused play You want frequent or tactical combat encounters You expect anime- or video-game-style power fantasy, and high fantasy You prefer comedy-first or consequence-free play Player Requirements 18+; exceptions may be granted, but will be assessed on case by case Respectful, collaborative roleplayers Willing to read and engage with setting lore Comfortable with failure, loss, and meaningful consequences Long-term commitment expected Campaign Info Starting level: 1 Session day: Friday Session time: 8 pm CST; 9 pm EST; 7 pm MST; 6 pm PST (there may be times when the session may starts 30 minutes later) Frequency: Weekly Ruleset: 2014 Session Length: 2 - 3 hours Medium: Discord Participation: Vocal communication Schedule: Zeroth session will be held on the 9th of January - schedule can be adjusted if most players cannot attend at that date Region: North America, New Zealand and Australia Important Note Before Applying This campaign significantly alters standard D&D assumptions , especially regarding: Magic Classes Character power progression How consequences are handled Reading the full campaign primer is required before applying . RP experience (tabletop or text-based): Advanced. Been playing D&D, and other TTRPGs, on and off since the early 80's. Been playing/Dm'n on Roll20 since 2013. What you enjoy most in a campaign: Story depth, particularly when a DM is able to weave elements of a character's backstory into the campaign as it goes on. I enjoy being challenged, myself in terms of roleplay and navigating through the campaign, being presented with difficult, palpable decisions. What you don’t like: From the DM, forcing player behavior/decisions (though you made it apparent that won't be the case). Also when DMs fall into a repetitive formula to the point that campaign arcs (and mini-arcs within) become predictable. From players, not taking things seriously such as other character's actions/decisions, emotional moments or even the campaign itself overall. Also, cutting other players off/interrupting. It will happen without intention here and there but when it happens all the time it's typically a case of that player not paying attention/not caring. Dormant players who are reluctant to engage in in-character dialogue. Any reservations towards what you read : I prefer somewhat longer sessions, at least a good 3-4, or even 5 hours. Not a fan of steampunk but can handle a bit of it, especially since I'm on board with everything else I read. Your commitment: Yes. I am ready, willing and looking forward to being committed to a campaign. What excites you about a player-driven, story-rich campaign ( optional ): With any campaign I join my favorite aspect is always interacting with the other characters. I love being in character and getting feedback, in-character from the other party members. I really enjoy when players 'let loose' roleplay-wise meaning, loosening up and actually having full, sometimes even emotional, conversations. So, what excites me most about the idea for a campaign like this is the prospect of getting genuine roleplay feedback from the other players (and DM as the NPCs or course). A brief character concept you’d like to play — personality, backstory seeds and goals (optional): At this point it would take some consideration before deciding what I'd want to play for this campaign. I'd love to learn more about the world, the lore and other aspects that may affect a particular class. That said I tend to play characters that are at odds with themselves in some way, i.e. a cleric who hates his deity because he feels like he's being forced into service to him as a means to show his followers that a bad person can become a good person. Or a fighter with split personality disorder who is a very capable fighter but when faced with too stressful a situation flips to his other, cowardly, personality. Goals for characters I tend to play can range from greed to revenge, to personal growth, to vowing to help/save people. Whichever way I go, while it may be a different style of roleplay, I always strive to make it dynamic roleplay. Silvario
