As a Pro paying member, who only plays DnD 2026 - Are APIs a thing still ?
I cant see updates here, and definitely dont want to add them to my games if they are lingering in the past. Is there a new primer on 2026 DND and ideal APIs and a development road map anywhere ?
for 2014 sheets - as a DM, a must imo for 2024 - idk, I dont touch that sheet with a 10 foot pole regardless, there are several API that has nothing to do with whatever sheets and are a huge assistance as a DM prepping the table. edit: life is weird, I was just talking to my friends about old cartoons and about Zelda + D&D cartoon and here you are with that avatar.
Most of the MODs and macros that I use are for making it easier to set up and run encounters. Only a few are dependent on date pulled from the character sheet. Then again, I have no intention of implementing the current D&D 2024 sheet; the UI for customizing the solid modeling program that I used to work with (Solidworks) was less cumbersome and more intuitive.
5e 2024 sheet roadmap: https://roll20.atlassian.net/jira/discovery/share/views/62cd1dc6-4f4b-42dd-a78c-d0863abd1227 A handful of some of the common APIs that work with the sheet do work (like GroupInitiative and GroupCheck), and they are working on adding support to the sheet for even more. Some of the APIs might work if the authors update them but some are waiting on additional functionality. And as others have said, a ton of mods don't care what sheet you use because they don't interact with it at all. I do disagree with Rick on the 2024 sheet being more cumbersome and less intuitive than Solidworks though ;) I have a lot of first time users of Roll20 as players in my games and they figure out stuff super quickly, getting into stuff like adding modifiers to custom items and setting up their own actions. I think the 2024 sheet is only confusing to people that are used to doing things on the 2014 sheet.
My problem with the 2024 sheet is that you still cannot do the things you can do on the 2014 sheet. Light mode, printing (including saving to PDF), upcasting custom spells, the list continues. And that is before I get to the "higher end" stuff I do with the 2014 sheet such as chat menus, displaying notes in attacks and after rolls, ChatSetAttr, etc.
Hey you kids! Get off my lawn! LOL! I'm sure that the MOD creators will be coming up with MODS for the D&D 2024 sheet as soon as the hooks are enabled and published. I have to admit that part of the fault may indeed be my semi-fossilized cerebellum. I started using SW (also Inventor and Mechanical Desktop) around 2004 and stuck with SW it until 2020, so familiarity bias might be involved.
