Curse of Strahd - Remastered with Major Updates!

Hey all! With all the Ravenloft excitement in the air, we decided to remaster Curse of Strahd with a ton of new Roll20 features and improvements. This update is free if you already own it with us! This update includes map pins, foreground layer, traps & reactions, options to use the new D&D Fifth Edition sheet, and the ability to read the entire book on the D&D Nexus! You can check out the complete overview on our blog ! A lot of what we've done here is being applied directly to the new Ravenloft book launching this summer, so consider this a sneak peek of how we're approaching D&D content. If there's ways of approaching these products that you'd like to see done differently, please let me know!
will this be done for other modules such as Lost Mine, Dragons of icespire Peak and it's extended adventures, etc?

This nice little video about the update just came across my YouTube feed. It showcases a lot of the improvements: https://youtu.be/v9ZG7s7nVWI?si=WJxVVfkRDiB2ZOBA

I've bought the package but the actual module is missing. Anyone else having this problem?
Have you checked Add-ons?
I'm trying to create a new game, but the actual module doesn't show up as one of my Adventures. I can find the three add-ons, but can't create a new game based on the module.

Curse of Strahd is an addon now, not a module. I hope this is the way that Roll20 releases future "modules" (as addons). All you need to do is create the game, then before hitting Launch scroll down and add the desired Curse of Strahd addon.

You need to select either the 2024- or the 2014- addon. These include the full modules. The naming is not intuitive.

"Classic Sheet Addon" = 2014 sheet "New Sheet Addon" = 2024 sheet
is there a plan to refine modules vs add-ons here ? I a little stumped as to why it moved - and it leads me to wonder, is this something needing simplification ? I own hundreds of add ons and modules in R20 and frankly I wont buy more as it has a bad case of "wood for the trees"
And I'm scared to add any addons to the addon as I rebuild COS and prepare a new campaign .

It is my understanding that Addons will be more often used than modules in the future. They are much less problematic to patch for some inscrutable technical reason. And I can see your point about multiple add-ons. Many people bought the original CoS module and then tried to add the Tarokka deck addon, for instance, without realizing that it was already included in the module. I think Roll20 should probably make some sort of announcement about if Addons will become more common, and what this means for the end user. I'll see if I can direct some attention to your concern.
Has anyone noticed the new CoS update maps don't actually have the map pins we were promised? Or might they just be missing from my copy perhaps?
I've already been preparing a CoS game, but I created a new game just to check out the new stuff and see what I might want to Transmogrify from it. I see the map pins on most of the maps, but not all. I also noticed that the letters designating locations on the Map of Barovia - the ones that were on the GM layer of the original game - are missing. I did find them on the archived hex grid copy that was included with the add-on. Ben C. said: Has anyone noticed the new CoS update maps don't actually have the map pins we were promised? Good afternoon. I'm writing from Brazil and my account level is FREE. I'd like to know: When I purchase the "Curse of Strahd" adventure add-on (or the Module), will I have to use my own Storage Quota (100MB), or do the add-on items not count towards my storage usage?

Hey Ben and Rick! I have created a game with the current CoS addon. I see map pins throughout. Can you cite a particular place where you are not seeing them? The old graphic key letters and numbers were removed from the adventure wherever map pins were placed as they are now redundant. Wherever this happened, the map pins now display that number through the icon text on the pin. If they are not showing up for some users or under certain circumstances, that's something that Roll20 needs to know.
Ben C. said: Has anyone noticed the new CoS update maps don't actually have the map pins we were promised? Or might they just be missing from my copy perhaps? Hi Ben! Are you installing the updated Curse of Strahd new add-on? Or are you opening a previous Curse of Strahd game? This is not a patch, but an all new add-on. Let me know if you're having issues with map pins when you install the add-on!
Interesting. So, since I'd already Transmogrified all the updated items that I wanted from the new add-on into the game I've been working on, I deleted my "Test Game", but when I read this post from you I created a new "test game" just to see exactly which map pages didn't have the pins. Lo and behold, this time all the new maps had pins where they were supposed to be, including the map of Barovia! Apparently there was some glitch in loading the add-on to that first game. Out of curiosity, I then left the game, deleted it, created another new game and loaded Curse of Strahd (Classic) add-on. Again, like the first time, no map pins. So I deleted that game and tried again with another new game. This time the map pins were again back where they were supposed to be. I tried this two more times, but these times I created the games using the new 2024 character sheet. Everything loaded as it should. There seems to be a loading glitch for the legacy version of the add-on. There is another thing that I didn't notice the first time: When I logged into the new game I noticed that I forgot to load the "Death House" add-on. When I exited the game, loaded that add-on, and re-entered the game I got a warning that I hadn't included the new D&D 5E 2024 character sheet (because my players and I don't like it) and was advised that it had been automatically added it to the game. I went to the settings tab and removed the 2024 sheet, but then found that the Death House maps were no lo longer pre-populated with any NPCs, and those NPCs were no longer even in the Journal. I then went to the Settings tab, added the 2024 character sheet back in, checked the Death House maps again and found they were now correctly populated. Apparently the Death House add-on requires the 2024 character sheet. keithcurtis said: Hey Ben and Rick! I have created a game with the current CoS addon. I see map pins throughout. In the case of either sheet, you are limited by what you have purchased. Classes and races in the SRD are freely available for either sheet, though only the New Sheet can handle 5.5 (2024) content. If you are looking for a class or race that requires a purchase (PHB, Xanathar's, etc.) you will need to specifically purchase them (or just manually input the values, if you own the source through another means). In none of these cases does anything you have purchased, or that is freely provided count against your storage quota. Basically, if you didn't upload a thing from your own computer, it probably doesn't count against your storage. Typically the only items that your storage quota accounts for are: uploaded graphics (including tokens and maps) uploaded audio files (not ones imported from MyAudio), and uploaded PDFs (not ones that might come with a module or addon). Things that typically don't count against your storage Any games you create (these are effectively unlimited, though games that have lain dormant for a while will be sent into temporary cold storage.) Any handouts or characters you create (these are effectively unlimited, within the constraints of your computer's ability to handle the data.) If that doesn't cover the specific items you are concerned over, let me know, and I'll do my best to answer.
The Gloom Stalker (ranger subclass) is present in PHB 5.5e but, is locked if I try select this subclass. If o buy the Module (or a add-on) of CoS this subclass is no more locked?

Short answer: If Gloomstalker had been published in the pages of Curse of Strahd, it would be included. (it hasn't) Slightly longer answer: Wizards of the Coast publishes a document called the System Rules Document (SRD). This contains a sampling of the material in the Player's Handbook. Enough to play the game, but it does not include all of the classes, races (species), spells, and so forth. This is so that: Third party content creators can have enough freely available rules to write and sell basic adventures without purchasing a license from the publisher, and New players have a free subset of the rules to try out before they purchase. If a rule, class, race, background or other feature is available in the SRD, it's available for free on Roll20 (and most other VTTs). Otherwise it requires a purchase. This is the same as if you were purchasing physical books. If the creator of your game has a collection of purchased materials (we call those "Compendium Sources", here) they might elect to share access to some or all of these with the players in their games. If you want to play a Gloomstalker ranger, and have not purchased the 5.5e Players Handbook, or the 5e Xanathar's Guide to Everything, you would need to either: Be in a game where someone has purchased those items and has decided to share them with their players, or Copy the material from a place where you do own the materials (a print book, DnDBeyond, etc), and manually paste or transcribe the features onto your character sheet.

This update did three things I don't like: 1) It deleted all the pins I put in the game. 2) I can change pin colours and shapes, but I can no longer set the icons for existing pins provided or new pins I make 3) It deleted some of my own map pages I had put in and set up. Very F**kin unhappy with that.

Hi Erik Bjornharta, I suggest rolling back your game, it should put everything back the the way it was.

1.) Always try new stuff on a copy, never your "live" game. 2) Make manual backups by using the "Copy Game" option. The number of games that you create has no impact on your allotted storage space. Manual backups are immediately accessible. With a Pro account, you can immediately Transmogrify broken maps, character sheets, handouts, etc. even during a game session.

I hope it doesn't. One big advantage of creating a new game from the list of modules on the right of the page is that the graphic for the game (that shows with the game title) is automatically set to the module. Also, games created with selecting a module first now show as an add-on, with the 'module' suffix. This is good, imo. When you have to create the game first, then add the add-on (and it isn't intuitive as to which add-on is appropriate or needed), you don't get the graphic that shows with the game title. I tested a Curse of Strahd new game and none of the add-ons tell me it is the module. And why is the 'classic' sheet called that instead of '2014' like everywhere else? And why is it even an add-on choice when the time to choose the sheet version is done in the game creation step? When presented with the add-on choices for a search ('Curse' in this case), my tendency is to add them all.

They may be able to fix the graphic issue. But I am pretty sure the majority of users will want everything to become an addon so that they can better mix and match adventures. It has been a complaint for a long time.

I'm asking all these questions because I'll be the one narrating this game. I've already created the first part with my own material and the free D&D material offered by the marketplace, but it doesn't have everything, and it's a pain to keep creating monsters and NPCs. So I'm deciding whether to buy the Module or just an add-on. I'm still trying to understand the prices. So far, I understand that the Bundle costs US$46.73 (approximately R$250.00) and the Module costs US$24.99 (approximately R$140.00), which are significant expenses (I'm not counting a group contribution). That's why I want to know if one of these two is worthwhile, or if I should just buy an add-on. What would be the price of a creature add-on, for example, and how to do that? Do you understand? But thank you very much for your attention and the answers you've given so far! Thank you ☺️

Arnaud, Class information is not usually included as part of an Adventure (either Module or Addon). It is part of the content in the Compendium. Gloom Stalker (2014) is in the book Xanthar's Guide to Everything Gloom Stalker (2024) is in the book Player's Handbook (2024) They will not be in an Adventure, you will need to purchase the appropriate book.

Also, any module or addon will typically come with a large number of monsters. But unless they are unique to that adventure, they will only be available in a game created with that module or to which that addon has been added. It requires a bit of effort to get them into a different game. Monsters unique to that module will often be available as Compendium entries for easy drag and drop into any game, but only if the offering advertises that it has compendium content. For run-of-the-mill monsters, the Basic Rules (SRD) actually has hundreds that are freely available. The Monster Manual will get you many more. If you purchase an adventure converted by Roll20, it will have every monster that is required for running that adventure. Curse of Strahd's compendium (part of the bundle) does contain a few items like the 2014 background "Haunted One", I believe. But it does not contain full subclasses. Finally, the Bundle you cite in this thread is all of the Curse of Strahd adventure material, plus the book bundle for Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft. This book is much more of a compendium offering and does offer a couple of subclasses, though not the Gloom Stalker Ranger: Possess the power of dread with 2 new subclasses (form a deadly pact with a demilich as an Undead warlock, or spin stories as a College of Spirits bard) Dance with death by picking one of 3 lineages (develop a taste for blood as a dhampir, or bargain with a hag to become a hexblood) Embrace temptation by choosing between 8 powerful Dark Gifts (gain control of a living shadow who may help or hinder you) Make the Mists your home with 6 background features and 2 new backgrounds (always look over your shoulder as a haunted one, or hunt for clues as an investigator) Also, as someone relatively new to Roll20, you might find some use out of the article here: https://pages.roll20.net/dnd/curse-of-strahd-tips-new-dm.
Hello! I purchased this module and it is not showing up in my owned modules list in the "Create Game" section on the right under "Your Adventures." Strahd won't show up despite being listed in my Items as purchased. I don't know if this is a glitch or if I need to refund it and rebuy it? I have also tried waiting a couple days to see if it just needed time to load in, but it still isn't there. Any advice? Thank you guys!

You can also create a game with the addon by choosing "Play" from the appropriate version on the Marketplace Page .
There are music add-on only for CoS?
