How to Hero — Eta Campaign | Seeking Players D&D 5e 2014 · Sandbox · Dark Fantasy · Psychological Horror · 18+ Based on the Grim Hollow sourcebooks · Fortnightly · Next session: 19 April, 6PM EST The World Etharis is a continent in slow collapse. The gods are gone. A creeping Corruption twists the land and the people on it — not into monsters, but into something more dangerous: exaggerated versions of themselves. Two-thirds of the continent has been swallowed by unnatural Darkness. The world remembers what your character does here. This is one of **four concurrent campaigns** running in the same living world. Decisions made at one table ripple outward. Alliances forged, enemies made, and towns built or burned can — and do — affect the other parties. The Eta Campaign Two years ago, the Cold Iron Keep suffered a catastrophic containment failure. The Keep held them — dangerous, powerful, and deeply unusual captives, the kind that don't stay dead and don't stay sane. When the walls came down, they scattered. Now a small, stubborn group has taken root in a vacant settlement beneath the ruins of the Keep, trying to rebuild something resembling civilization while tracking, planning, and recapturing what escaped. This campaign draws heavily from SCP and civilization-building influences — part containment thriller, part frontier survival, part slow-burn horror. Your character won't just fight. They'll negotiate, construct, investigate, and make decisions that outlast them. What to Expect at This Table The combats here are earned . What happens in a fight is shaped by what your character said three sessions ago, who they trusted, what alliances they built, and what lines they were willing to cross. Rolls matter — but so does every conversation before you ever reach initiative. The GM actively rewards genuine roleplay, creative use of abilities, and characters with something to lose . Low-level characters aren't at a disadvantage — they tend to grow faster, because the world pays attention to what you do in it. Dynamic Levelling The world has a current **maximum level of 13**. New characters roll a **d4** on entry — that result is subtracted from the cap to determine your starting level. This exists for **game longevity**, not as a punishment. The gap closes quickly for characters who engage with the world around them. We're Looking For The Eta Campaign has **4 seats available** while several players are away for the next six months. We're looking for players who: - Want to build a character, not just play one - Are comfortable with moral complexity and slow-burn narrative - Can commit to a fortnightly schedule - Are 18+ and understand that strong themes are present throughout — the GM applies discretion on content that doesn't serve the story If Etharis sounds like the kind of place your character deserves to suffer in — you might be exactly who we're looking for.
