Hi So, the tokens in a square grid snap to the upper left corned of the square. On hex grid, they snap at the center by default. There have been a lot of suggestions and discussions about this topic for years, but to my surprise they have all seemed to die because there has not been enough votes. Here are couple of examples, but there are a lot more where this subject has been touched upon: Topic by myself that was closed: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/12124592/slug%7D A really old topic: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1201235/slug%7D This is a really frustrating issue when you try to use tokens that are any other size than one square exactly, or other shape than exactly MxM in dimensions. Like for a winged creature I would love to use 2x1 sized token to enable it spreading it wings over the square, but on a square grid it snaps so that the body ends up in between the squares. Here are screenshots of the desired result in a square grid, how the 2x1 token behaves on square grid when snapping to corner (the creature half in one square, half in other), and how it snaps nicely on a hex grid, when it snaps to center. I understand that someone might want the token to snap to corner, but why cannot this be an adjustable feature? Like suggested in earlier topic, it could be adjustable for each token separately, and/or a page setting to choose center or corner snapping. Now if I want to use a square grid, I have to tackle with the image size to make it work. Like, a 3x1 token size works better as that still places the body of the token on a square despite snapping to a corner. Please, if you have encountered issues with this, vote this topic so that this would finally get on the development backlog! (edit: fix typos)
I agree that this should be selectable. Corner-snapping works better with the way some games designate how a token works on a square grid (e.g., D&D), but center-snapping would work better with the examples that you gave.
My current workaround is that I do a 3x1 token size, placing the body of the figure at the center. That works to a degree, but the downside is that now each such token occupy more area than it needs, and when they are close to each other, they overlap, thus making it more difficult to click on the one you want. Also if the token is smaller or larger than one square exactly, the left corner snapping works poorly. This comes often an issue when you are using token purchased from the Marketplace that are from different artists. Not all tokens are natively the same scale. You might need to alter the size so that they don't look like leprechauns standing next to giants, but then the left corner snapping messes it up. Selectable snapping method is the easy solution and it should not do any harm to anyone. I dream that you could set the default functionality for the game, for the page and for the token individually, but I would be happy for any of the three. Btw. I do use hex grid in my games for some maps, especially for outdoor areas, mostly because of the center-snapping. The square grid is just much more appealing when it comes to indoor areas, where rooms tend to be rectangular.

I do the same. I add transparent "padding" around images used for small or tiny creatures. I also often need to adjust that same transparent "padding" around many images that I get from the marketplace. FYI: there's an existing open suggestion on basically the same thing, Snap Tokens to Middle of Grid Space that is past the 10-vote threshold (with some of the same people commenting), as well as a more general one, Proposed Token Setting: Token Snapping Offset , which doesn't yet have 10+ votes. It would probably be better to vote for the high-voted one and improve its score, than to split the votes with a third suggestion.
Definitely worth it to pool the upvotes, though one would think that the number of times something gets suggested counts for something as well.
