Player use of assets in a game

Score + 3
Some of us have lots of assets that we've collected over the years. Some of these include things like spell templates, and tokens to use as familiars, just as an example. It would be really nice if we could use these in a game as a player. Right now, the use of these assets are limited to the owner of the game, or a DM in the game. Regular players cannot move an asset token onto the map. I think we should be able to do so, especially for things like spell templates to show the area of effect of a spell our character is casting. Being able to use these assets would have benefits not just for players in games, but also Marketplace creators - more use of these assets will spur more people to buy art from the Marketplace opening up more sales. On the other hand, I can understand that some DMs may not want their players dropping random tokens onto the map. Sure, the DM can remove any they don't want but it could become an annoyance. So, I propose that Roll20 should have a new setting in the game settings menu, similar to the setting for whether or not players can create their own characters that would allow the creator of the game to decide whether or not the players in the game can drop assets onto the map. Then, if you're a player in a game that has this setting turned on, you can see your assets and use them. If the setting is not turned on, then the assets should not even be there, unless you're a DM in the game. In other words: - Default setting: The "Art Library" is not visible at all; - If you're the owner of the game, or a DM in the game, the "Art Library" is visible and both "Premium Assets" and "My Library" assets are usable; - If you're a player in the game, and the setting "Allow players to use assets" is on, then the "Art Library" is visible and "Premium Assets" are usable (but not "My Library" assets).

Players can use an asset if that asset is linked as a token to a character sheet. Here is a video that describes the process of making a pre-sized spell template that's available to all players. The video is old and some of the menu look different today but the process is still the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8i2mFvRgpo Tying the graphic to a character sheet allows you to preset the size of the template. Manipulating and sizing graphics pulled from the Art Library isn't always as easy for some players as it would be for others, especially for players using touch screens.
I'm well aware that you can use an asset if that is linked to a character sheet. But, first of all, my suggestion involves a lot of things like templates that don't get linked to character sheets. Secondly, in order for it to be linked to a character sheet, in most cases, you have to get it onto the tabletop so that the DM can link it to a character sheet! Rick A. said: Players can use an asset if that asset is linked as a token to a character sheet.
