Hey folks. I've been planning this for a while, mainly to do as a podcast or livestream on my youtube channel, though more than likely the former since I have yet to see how my current internet speed can handle livestreaming (a lack of fibre optics can understandably make things like this difficult.) Either way, I would like to run a group through the campaign. Whether or not this becomes podcasted has yet to be seen, it really depends on the group, though I will make a few notes for that sort of thing in a little bit. So, what's the details behind the campaign? The game itself will be set, of course, in the land of Hyrule, the setting for the Legend of Zelda series of games. In regards to the timeline, the game will be set 20 years before the Hyrulean Civil War. Excitement that had been prominent since Vaati's subsequent resurrection and sealing by the boy who could split into four is beginning to die down and wandering swordsmen and adventurers are becoming a rarer thing. Tensions are starting to rise between the Goron and Zora, and word of the Light Force spreads, and its rumours twisting to misleading 'clues' about where the Triforce might be. The party will be a group of people who have found themselves at the doorstep of Lord Simone, a Hylian noble whose manor resides in Hyrule Castle Town, where our story begins. Everyone will start at level one and have five hundred rupees to spend on starting gear, where a rupee is equal to a gold piece. All official classes will be permitted, with no alignment restrictions. The available races to play as would be Hylian, Zora, Goron, Gerudo, Deku Scrub, with a maybe on Sheikah and Kokiri. Ganondorf is alive at this point (he's only twelve right now) so Gerudo players must be female, no exceptions. We'll run the game over Roll 20 for maps and dice rolls and talk over skype. I have a friend or two who might be interested in the game, so they get first priority, but in total, I'm looking for a group of 5 or 6. We'll level up contextually, improving as the story progresses, rather than gaining XP in the traditional sense. What to expect from me as a GM I'm pretty easy going on most things, I like to make sure my players are having a good time. That said, I haven't run into the problem often of having to deal with certain issues groups might have had, and I do hope to keep it that way. If there's a problem between you and another player out of game, I would like it if it's solved between the two of you like mature adults. If a solution seems impassable, let me know and we can hash it out. If it's in game, then of course I should be notified and I'll hopefully get it all resolved. With that note out of the way, I should say that I'm not the kind of GM to say no very often. If it doesn't make sense contextually or I know it would disrupt the flow of the game, then I will not allow it, but otherwise if you wish to do something I'll play along with it; you guys are the ones to write the story, you're the stars as it were, I'm merely filling in the blanks.Don't be fooled though; just because I let you do something doesn't mean the result will always be in your favour :3 What I would like from the players I like roleplay, which is likely something a lot of people enjoy. When you make a decision, even if it's detrimental to yourself or the group (though not outright destructive, I hope) I would like that decision to be one your character would make, not you as the player. In that same sense, feel free to get lost in your surroundings, the NPCs and the other players. Since you have Hyrule to explore, don't feel the need to follow story clues. I'll provide contextual hints for things to do, of course, but I would love it if you guys would tackle problems and generally experience the world at your own pace. Again, I fill in the gaps, you guys are the ones to take direction. There's a threat, a monster perhaps, but how you deal with it isn't set in stone. What to expect from the campaign Despite being a Zelda game, don't expect a Zelda experience. Even going by the original game, puzzles were very practical, not really something easily translated into the tabletop form. There will be puzzles, no doubt, but it'll be more reminiscent of the standard Pathfinder game. There will be Zelda-esque wondrous items but the dungeons won't be based around them, at least not entirely. I'm currently working on the 'first act' maps, or maps that I know, for definite will be present in the first few sessions, and after that if there's enough people to play, I will set up the first session which will be character gen. When to play I'm GMT based, and would look to play on the weekends. As of late, I've had some late shifts, so I might be open to weekday games, but that really depends on how everyone else will be at that point. Times will be discussed later.
