New player looking for a "Mage: The Awakening" game.

It would have to be Tuesday / Friday nights unless of course you're willing to play after midnight until about 5am the rest of the time. Just how my work schedule is. I love D&D and have been a DM for about two years, however I prefer something a bit darker and more mystical. World of darkness sounds just my speed. I've glanced over the rulebook and would totally be up for playing with my magic set on the path of Moros. Lemme know if anybody out there is up for it.
I'm always up for more mage games. I'd prefer to play, but i might bea ble to run something too since ive ST-ed for many games since Mta came out.
I am oWod, but the old mage was a bit hard to get at times, so i would be interested in checking out the newer version. I will check it out . I could do bi-week on tues or fri for now
I am totally down for this...I can ST as well as play...perhaps me and Mitch can take turns running story arcs?
Yeah that'd be awesome. I actually miss more system have mage games, since a lot of people seem to like light system stuff and I prefer heavy system action plus heavy RP together. I'd even be up for running/playing pvp but that can get dicey for new players: ) BUt yeah I can barely ever get enough mage. And i can do tuesday/friday
I can do tuesday night anytime or friday if it is later than 9:30 pm PST
Add me on skype (Malkasphia) so we can talk about details faster ya'll :)
Are people still up for this? I'd be fine with storytelling but i've never opened a game on roll20 before.
Has this group started? Me and a friend are looking for a game.
No...everything has come to a standstill...I would be willing to co-run a game, but I also want to play Mage...so if either of you wants to ST or co-ST...then we could start something up
i would run a game but im currently gm two games and wanted to play and im not familiar with a lot of white wolf. i mostly played adventure! in WW.
OK. I made a campaign just to get things rolling. It's here- I can take maybe 4 or 5, and I'm not sure on time table or specifics yet, but I figured why not organize a little right? I *might* be able to do something tuesday or friday this week, but most likely the following week. Link is here- https://app.roll20.net/join/54077/IdUbcg I've played mta since it came out, and I've been a WOD storyteller for 10 years, with like dozens of campaigns, but i'm a complete noob to roll20, so help would be appricated if I'm doing anything wrong : )
I'd be willing to let other people storytell parts of this down the line too, but at this point I figure we might as well jump forward. A bit about the game and decisions about it and what not- The game will center around a legendary item called "The Pearl Key" which is said to grant entry to an ancient atlantean temple of considerable power. I can run it as a cabal story, or as more of an every man for himself story, though i'd prefer people pair into teams if we do it that way so id on't need to do more than a few turns at the same time.People can talk on Skype, but i prefer to do most everything in text. I can split up to extra pages if we have split up groups (or we can use other stuff like aim) I'm tempted to use either the Boston or Chicago new mage setting books just for easy reference. I like both action/dice rolling systems and role playing elements, I'd love to stay close to systems, roll everything in the open, and just let what happens, happens. *** (tl;dr) Bottom line- This will be a treasure hunt type story, either cabal or more pvp is fine, you guys decide. Those who join can start thinking about a character. ANd we need to decide a time. Someone mention tuesday nights. I could probablly do that, Does like 8 EST work for everyone? Here's a mage sheet I've been using, that works well for this purpose- https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhyGDLSEmJKJdGgya1Bya2tkbVNTRWxJVzZkWVctaFE#gid=0 Just make a new copy of it, name it something different, and then post a link to it. I'll allow changes up until we get started (whenever that is). I'm thinking standard character creation with maybe a little extra, like +25 xp. (So I can make fun opponents : ) ) Try to clear weird merits with me. So let me know who's in, and what your preferences are and let's get rollin : )
Tuesday nights work for me so far...8 EST is great... I would prefer more cabal working together...at least for the first couple of adventures so we can get to know each other...then we can decide if we want a lot of interparty drama...since it usually tears new groups apart.. I am thinking a Spirit-Life Acanthus Mage....just go crazy on the support roll for all of my fellow mages to have the fun masterblasting if they want to :D
OK, good point, we can just go with cabal in the beginning, with maybe opening it up for splitting off later on. OK, let's aim to meet next tuesday at 8 PM, to hammer more things out, and try to just get everyone in one place. Whenever people have their character sheets in, I might do the exercise from Mirrors as well, possibly (for extra xp!) As long as everyone who signed up is actually on board, we have 3 players currently. I could go up to 2-3 more. (6 absolute max)
OK, I haven't heard from anyone so I'm putting this off until december 6, 8 PM. But I'll definitely be there then. If people don't post character sheets/something in here by then, i'll have to prioritize the people who do. I.e., just joining the game isn't enough, we need to get stuff rollin! Thanks.
I would be up for this ive been looking for a nwod game and this seems a good enough place to start tuesdays and friday evenings would also work for me
I'm interested, although I haven't had the chance to play any nwod, so December 6th will be better for me. Give me more time to read through the books and get a better understanding of the game. At the moment, I'm thinking of playing a Moros mage. I can probably do Tuesdays at 8. I don't think I've got any plans for Tuesday.
Which books are you using? I mean, I have all the books and I have an awful tendency to scavenge everything cool to be used by my character. I have some concepts in mind, but it will depend what are you using and who made which kind of character
HI- I should have access to all of them, I am a packrat as well. All the mage books anyway. I can probablly get access to all the WOD as well, but anything from any other canon book we should prolly talk out just to make sure things don't get out of hand. The whole "mage who is also a vampire" type thing seems a bit overkill to me. Yeah- If everyone could post their concepts here Like Shadow Name: Order: Concept: Background Magic Ideas: : (i.e., "obrimos focusing on telekinesis" that would probably help. Also i'll be going with those who post this info first if we end up with too many) So far I have- Kyle (who told me in PM) I have room for 5 more. If we get more than that, maye i can work something out with kyle to take on a second related group, that could be super fun. (plus then i could play. Would you be up for that man?)
Oh OK- actually as long as max, eavatar, eathan and michael N are still on board we are pretty much full, but it'd be cool if those people could check in with character stuff just so I can confirm it, that'd be great.
So theres no more room :(
Shadow Name: Hunter Dean Order: Silver Ladder Concept: former teen star Background: Mary Ann Smith was born in a very poor family in Aurora/Montana. They basically lived by food stamps and some eventual meat which her father could get at the ranch where he worked as a tanner. Someday during the summer vacations a very prestigeous Hollywood producer went to the ranch where her father worked and at that exact day she was helping her father. The producer fell in love by her "exotic beauty and natural shine,", Mary Ann was 11 years old and he made the possible to take her with him to Hollywood. Her parents were reluctant till the producer said he could get a job for them in LA as soon they went to there. Once in Hollywood she got some acting trainning and they made her be part of a minor tween show, the "Unlucky Leprechauns" about an adorable baseball team which was blessed with "Charlie Brown" luck. The show survived for just 2 short seasons, but Mary Ann, now Hunter Dean just ascended from the one joke girl to the show's main star. Later she got into another show called "Mombai Express" where she was co-starring with a teen Indian star Shanti Gupta. Mombai Express was a sucess, the blend of music, Bollywood like choreography, humor and "being a stranger in a strange world" was an international major hit and a sensation for the late tweens and early teens public. Amelia Silverhart, the show's producer, was a former model which got the right marriage which placed her on high society. As any bored wife her husband suggested her to have any hobby and she asked if she could try produce a tv show. Nobody knew the show was fated to be a sucess because some supernatural aid. After this sucess she became a major name at her husband's movies and shows producing company. Untill that moment nobody knew Amelia Silverhart was an Acanthus mage, part of Sisterhood of Blessed and she was the link from the sisterhood with the Guardians of Veil. She did her best to coordinate everything trying to give the impression Mombai Express was a hobby for her. The guardians did their share. They coordenated their best assets to write the best episodes, where they could pass their message but under the constant Silver Ladder's "Be your best and help the others be their best, personal superation is the best way to suceed" philosophy. One day Hunter was studying her lines on the studio waiting for the dance team get ready for a dance sequence when she found herself attracted by Amelia's presence. Not Amelia or even the secret "GV co-producer" knew Hunter was a sleepewalker till that moment. They didn't predicted even she would come to Amelia and say: - Mrs Silverhart, you are so special person, can you help me be like you That sentence captured Amelia's heart. She never wondered Hunter or Shanti could absorb the philosophy which she was spreading nor the girl from praire could recognize her as a Sage or a role model. Amelia considered that was a signal which she was doing the right thing and starting at that moment she did the best to guide Hunter. Her legacy sisters considered that a faux pas, how a member of the blessed sisterhood could feel attached for a tool, like Hunter was. They debated that subject at their semestral meeting at a French castle at Ille de France region as well they talked which young model they would estimulate to become the next Supermodel, if the Chilean Bordeaux wine would be the new Chardonay and if they would support the Free Council's last claim to reform the Lex Magica. At that same moment Hunter was with their parents in a road trip back to Montana when a drunken driver smashed their brand new Lexus Hibrid (a gift given by Amelia to Hunter when Mtv aired her own edition of Super 16 show). Hunter was saved by her sheer luck, she was the single person who wasn't projected by the front window thanks by the fact she was wearing the safety belt. Her parents died at that exact moment, and they were returning to Montana to visit her family brand new mausoleum where they just buried her grandfather, the last family member alive. During the car crash Mary Ann mind drifted and she saw a faint silver light which she followed by instinct. Once she crossed the Abiss between the fallen world and the Supern realm of Moonsilver Thorn. There she met several fae figures and one of them cryptically said to her "Your fate is wrote, You will rise when the Sunset become a sunrise". The mysterious elven lady guided her to the tower and she autographed her artistic name and signed her real name. And after that she spent a brief time with the faes till the paramedics recovered her conscience at the crash site. She spent a time at the hospital till she called her agent, but she was't answering the telephone, so she though for a while and resolved to call Amelia which was at her reunion. After a brief talk, including what she saw when she was out of herself the tv producer said she would take charge of any medical bill and her lawyers would take care of any legal detail. At that exact moment Amelia become Hunter's legal guardian and magical mentor. And since that day, 3 years ago Mary Ann spent her days working at Mombai express till the last episode and she studied hard to become the best mage apprentice Amelia could dream. Now she is 19 years old, somewhat famous and she has about 30 million dollars at her saving account which she can't use till her 21st anniversary, but she is living under Amelia's spence till the next gig come. During this mean time she is waiting to join a major concillium or a cabal and use her powers to aid the mankind. Magic Ideas: Magic is something powerful and fun, but you can't blend fun and powerful without consequences. You just need do magic when it is necessary, sometimes your presence is enough to solve any issues. People think they know you, but not even magic knows you. The key to knowledge is know your strong and weak points and be sure no one know them.
I hope you enjoy the novel which I wrote, if you found several grammar issues remember I am not a native english speaker. (here is my sorry in advance)
Heh no worries for the novel, or grammar or whatever. I'm not that anal. Um, well I wouldn't think we would get anymore, but sure Simon you can be in. I can handle 6. Why not. Be signups are definitely **CLOSED FOR NOW*** If anyone drops we could take more, or if we add another storyteller (i have a really epic story idea, so it could easily take extra game unitsin the same area that could interact if we are feeling that epic.)
Oh right if orgot- it would also help for people to add in "Path." And try to work on those character sheets by next tuesday, so we can spend less time guiding people through character creation.
Shadow Name: Vortigern Order: The Mysterium Path: Moros Concept: Composed Snob Background: Born Wesley Collins. His family lived in a small town house in Cicero, Illinois. They made enough money to live off of, Which was alright with him, but it did mean that his parents were gone a lot. He didn't particularly mind. Got a bit lonely though. His house was a vibrant blue in colour, which annoyed him. He wasn't quite sure why, but anytime he had to leave or return, he'd see his house and become irritated. Which was a terrible way to begin or end a day. He vowed to paint something different when he was sure on what that colour was. After getting in an argument with the colour of his house he went to school. Though, he couldn't be bothered to really pay much attention. For the most part the lessons bored him, either something he already knew or something that didn't pertain to him. He'd skate through the grading system so no complaints were made but he wanted something to challenge. Something interesting. After school, like every other day, he headed to his favorite burger place, where he would hang out until it started getting dark. But this day was different. He noticed something down a dark alleyway. Something weird. Like graffiti. Being a 'diligent' student, he decided to check it out. It was straight out of a bad voodoo movie or something, a pentagram, somethings that looked like they might've been animal bones, a liquidy substance that must have been blood. Definitely something going on here. And then... Everything went to black. And then he woke up, with a massive headache, He assumes he must have been hit with an bat or something... His vision becoming clear. He looked around, not familiar with area, but with all the boxes and storage, he could only assume he was in a warehouse. When he tries to get up he notices that his hands and feet are bound. It figures, discover some weirdo black voodoo magic and you get knocked out tied up. Looking around more now he notices some more of the floor has the voodoo print, seems to be made of chalk or something. He can also tell that it must be getting dark because he can see the last remnants of light pouring through the window. But something that catches him off guard is that no one is around. Which was strange... Didn't people who kidnapped other people usually stick around. Especially voodoo wizards. Right about when he started to try and push his way up to get a better look at the room he heard some chanting. It definitely was not English. And more importantly it was not singular. They began to pour into the room, something like six people, he couldn't tell which were men and which were women, due to the acoustic in the room and they were all wearing heavy black cloaks. The first five moved to the points of the star on the ground, continuing with the chant while the last one moved off to the side, to some form of desk or something and pulled up a Kris knife. He moved forward, holding the blade out not actually grasping the handle, he moved towards Wesley, and pulled him up to his knees. Wesley, at this point, was kinda freaking out, as the occultist lift the blade up, preparing to drive it into his heart, Wesley closed his eyes, one final thought passing through his mind. Am I going to die here? And nothing. No chanting. No strange people in there heavy cloaks. He opened his eyes, to a most dreary sight, where death seemed prominent. It was cold as he made his way forward, not exactly sure what was going on. The tower in front of him Beckoned him to come closer. He tried to keep his eyes on the tower for now, not wanting to lose his attention to anything else. He entered, slowly, and peered around the lobby, in which a bunch of paintings sat, scattered around the room, but none of them actually on the walls, which were covered in scratch of peoples names. Some foreign, some not. The paintings all had prominent point of his life, Stuff he accomplished Points were he should have done better. Stuff that happened to him to shape his live as it was today, and at the far end was a painting, the only one that was hanging. Which was a painting of himself, as he is today. In front of which was the same knife that the occultist was planning on killing him with. Picking up the knife, and looking at the painting, it wasn't that hard to figure out what he had to do. Grasping the handle, He struck the painting as hard as he could. The blade went in easy, and began to bleed from the attack. Pulling the knife out, the picture fell off the wall and behind it was his own name. There was a sudden gasp, followed by a sigh of relief, as if the tower was congratulating him for over coming his death. His eyes open, back to reality, back to about to being killed, As the occultist began to swing downward, Wesley swung his head forward, and collided with the mans gut. The Occultist Gasped out in pain as Wesley recoiled back. There were a couple of sudden flashes followed by some loud bangs. Turn to look, he saw some people in tactical gear that might have said swat. The Occultists recoiled back and some of them fell to the floor, Wesley just watched with a blank stare. After the occultist were either gunned down or surrendered, the police informed Wesley that the occultists were suspected of kidnapping and killing three other people. They also informed him that he was quite lucky to be alive. He wasn't sure. He figured it was because of his quick thinking and action that saved him. Or that other place, but he figured it was probably for the best if he left that out. Don't want people thinking he's crazy. After that night, he started to visit occult, magic and paranormal shops, to see if he could find out anything about that strange place and the tower. A couple of weeks went by and he was contacted by the Mysterium. That was two years ago. Now he has some interested in striking out in to the world and learning some stuff for himself. But that would require some help. Maybe he'll find some like-minded individuals to start a Cabal with. Magic Ideas: I'm not sure at the moment. Possibly A focus on entropy or decay. >w>;;
I'd like to get into this game as well, if you have enough room and a GM
Here is my sheet, it is on ODF format which is preferential for Libreoffice, but you can open it at google docs or even at the most modern MSOffice. http://www.mediafire.com/view/?u9khxo520aj5zzo
Hey, just wondering, are you still thinking of letting us start with 25 experience points?
Yeah I think that's a good idea, so I can design interesting opponents that are exactly under the same rules as you.
Alright, My character sheets almost done, just doing some finishing touches.
Well, I did mine with 0 XP, considering this xp boost I will add some really interesting elements at te sheet

I just realized I had meant to make this on tuesday the 4th but wrote the 6th (thursday) instead. So it's cool, i'll try to be around at 8 PM EST on both days, and then find a time to @peter- Sure why not, hop on board. I've only heard from half of the people who have signed up anyway. If you're going to jump in right away it makes sense you should have precedence, And if we actally do get 7, i have enough time to split into 2 groups and run 2 sessions per week, with plenty of overlap (you could email characters for info/trades etc from the two groups, maybe evnen jump groups sometimes if you wanted)
Order: Silver ladder path:Thrysus concept:Fallen rich playboy background:When Allistair King was born,it was with silver spoon in hand. His father the head of a large weapons manufacturer Allistair could have many things other children could not have.Spending his teenage years getting into(and out of) trouble by way of his connections, persuasive attitude, good lucks, and natural talent. during those years Allistair was the suave type,if you wanted something from anyone,he was the guy at Anderson private school to see His parents spent a fortune on his education, some of it sunk in, other parts didn't and why should he learn any of it? he thought he would live off his parents fortune using it to maintain his lavish partying and drinking lifestyle.Unfortunately, when the day of his fathers will came all the money, Allistair only plan in life his fathers immense wealth going to a far off uncle he had only ever met once at a cocktail party. It was he who taught Allistair who now took up the shadow name of Nemo the fundamental of the silver ladder and of magic, years would pass as Nemo learned much from Belisarus. For every one lesson their was on magic and its use, their were three on the history, events, and trials of the mages.Once Belisarus had no more to teach him, Nemo took up residence in a old residence of his family' that had fallen into disrepair and had never been valued enough to repair. Here is where he spends his days living off what little remaining money he has, inbetween honing his newfound power.
Awesome, I'll get around to making a character right away.
Alistair sounds like Ike, a character from a comic book called Morning Glories. He sounds like Ike, maybe a little less on the edge
Sorry for the wait.
And what is the story behind your character Peter?
Concept: Ex-Soldier Garian's childhood was unremarkable, with him doing what kids do; make friends, play games, and just plan having fun and helping out around the house. When he became of age though, 18, he decided he wanted to do something for his country and not just for himself and decided to join the army. He awoke sometime later, being told that he was the only survivor of his squad, the village he was in had burned to ashes with only him as survivor, yet he could not remember any of it, he had lost his memory of his time in the military. They saw no problems with him, other than what seemed like amnesia over a insignificant point in his life, allowing the military to cover up the fiasco of what had happened and try to figure it out themselves. When he went home though, he found that he can control elements, mainly fire, and this lead him to search for others that could help him control it which lead him to the path of Obrimos, and the Order of the Adamantine Arrow. With his new found outlook, he took it as his duty to protect the Sanctums, but also prided himself with the magic he has learned. Yet there was something lingering at the back of his mind, something about his time in the military, what had happened there to cause him to lose his memory, who had killed his friends and allies in that village? Was it he, who had suddenly came to become awakened, or was there something, someone, else that did it to help him realize what he truly was. Magic Ideas: Obrimos who specializes in Fire Magic Good?
my sheets
@Eavatar- you figure out what your Bane is? (For the destiny merit). ALthough I think i have an idea if you'd rather do it that way. @peter looks good. Don't forget to add your rotes (you get 6 dots to distribute over spells, so adding a rote for a forces 3 spell, plus 3 level 1 prime spells would work) and don't forget your skill specialties. you get 3 of those as well. *** Also- I'm adding 1 more to the thursday group (he messaged me earlier and i totally forgot about it). Giving us 5 people who I think are going to show up tomorrow, hopefully. So thursday group is- Eavatar simon eathan peter guy from earlier (he should post soon) (anyone else like kyle who shows up on thursday we can take 1 of) everyone else who contacts me will form tuesday group. at least 3 for that would be ideal. If we get everyone showing up on thursdau we'll just split up the group then. This way if people drop we'll still have enough ( i know this happens a lot with new groups). See you guys thursday. I prolly wont b around tonight. Anyone who needs to be on tuesday, i'll catch you next week.
I know you start with 3 rotes, but you saying I can add 3 more? Edit: Alright, the spells I chose are: Control Fire(2), Counterspell Prime(2), Perfect Timing (1), and Night as Day(1). Control Fire: 4 DP CounterSpell: 6 DP Perfect Timing: 5 DP Night as Day: 8 DP I also switched my Arcana so I had 2 in Prime and 1 in Time, and game myself Kevlar Vest(thin), because it didn't seem to have been added when I first posted my CS.
spells I have(I changed them abit from the character sheet) spirit tongue(1),exorcists eye(1), dispel magic(1) self healing(2),healers trance (1) spirit tongue-8 exorcists eye-6 dispel magic-5 self healing-5 healers trance-5
So we're doing it on Thursday then?
What the fae said is " You will rise when the Sunset become a sunrise" I am letting it open to the ST add anything he wish based on this sentence.
@peter I didn't see rotes on your character sheet. You can get 3 rotes, yes but the actual rule is 6 dots in rotes, so you could have more than 3. A forces 3 rote is 3 dots, a foces 1 rote is 1 dot. But sure sounds good if you want to buy those with the 25 xp. @Eathan- yup thursday Dec. 6 at 8 pm. @Eavatar- OK. Sounds good. @Peter- I don't see your character sheet listed? Can you point it out to me? Thanks.
woops nevermind peter i see it now. my bad.
Salright, I updated the character sheet too, just to let you know. (It's all said in my latest comment here. Made 1 more change: Instead of Common Sense (4) I changed that to Sanctum(4) Edit: Uploaded my updated character sheet Tell me what I need to add and I'll go about doing it.
I think you need to decide what your sanctum dots are in (size, security, etc) Don't forget your specialties to, for the skills. You get 3. They go right next to the skill. So a specialty for "subterfuge could be "fast talking." It'd be cool to figure out where your sanctum is as well. (story will be set in chicago if you wanted to be nearby). It's kismet with the whole chicago fire thing : ) Also-you need a teacher for that legacy (tamers of fire)-and you need gnosis 3 before you can get the first attainment. Other than that I didn't see anything. If you wanted to leave details of the legacy and your teacher up to me that's cool. Just means you planned to up gnosis and get the first attainment you'd have to wait til it happened in story. But other than
