The Cataclysmos system consists of six planets that orbit a blue super giant star. According to the datacrypts aboard the Palace of the Duke of Nythfa the system was first colonized in M36 by refugees from the Sarcos system in the Segmenta Pacifica. Five of the six planets play a role in the mythology of the local ecclesiarchy occupying various roles as gods or places in the afterlife. The primary star is commonly viewed as a stand-in for the God Emperor in his guise as the Sky Prince or the Tywysog y Awyr as he is called in the local language. The blazing blue white light that bathes the planets in the system with is considered to be normal. The inhabitants of Ynnen, tend to develop blindness and a young age due to prolonged exposure to the intense light of their primary star. Cataclysmos I was christened Gwenwyn in the original colonists native tongue. The planets atmosphere is highly corrosive and the world is widely considered to be where the lord of sickness dwells because of a ten year planetary conjunction that brings the world into close proximity with Ynnen. When this happens, toxins seep into the winds of Ynnen and inflict famine or plagues on the inhabitants. Cataclysmos II was christened Nyfnfor in the original colonists native tongue. This world has an eccentric orbit that causes it to brush the atmosphere of other planets in the system and when it does so to Ynnen it triggers titanic monsoons that last for years. Cataclysmos III was christened Ynnen in the original colonists native tongue. The sole remaining inhabited planet in the system. It was devastated by an invasion that was halted only by the divine intervention of the Sky Princes children in M38 long after the planet stopped receiving visitors from the Sky. According to legend, the Sky Children promised to return whenever the world was in danger as long as the people kept to the faith of the Sky Prince. There are three major city states that in the distant past were part of a single kingdom, ruled from the high castle at the top of the Star Tower, an orbital tether that anchored a space port in low orbit but the kingdom fragmented when the Star Tower fell and they lost contact with the children of the Sky Prince (as well as the Imperium). The remaining city states are each built around a colony ship that landed during the days of the Jericho Sector circa M36, and bear the names of Drefedigaeth, Nythfa, and Wladfa . All three colony ships contain advanced technology that much of the populace has long forgotten how to use, but the rulers retain some small sliver of the knowledge required to activate. One of the pieces of tech shared by all three cities is that of the forbidden Sarcosan Wave generator which can animate the dead. The city state of Nythfa was conquered by the heretics who have busied themselves with harvesting its technology for their own purposes. The colonists of the city state call themselves and the people of Drefedigaeth the Hiaith (translates to men of language). While they refer to the people of the far of free city of Wladfa as the Cythraul (translates to demonspawn). The city of Drefedigaeth is in the midst of an industrial revolution no doubt triggered by the rediscovery of a primer relating to their lost technology, as the nation is ruled by the descendents of the High King that managed to escape the fall of the Star Tower, collectively known as the Fallen Princes. The Drefedians brokered a peace after the War of Iron ended in a stalemate five years ago, when many of the warmachines the duke attempted to use against the Fallen broke down in transit and the carrionites that both sides brought against the other failed to gain any territory. The city of Wladfa has maintained strict isolation from the other two nations for the past fifty years. It was ruled by a council of merchant princes that rebelled some fifty-five years ago. Both its neighbors have attempted to wage wars of conquest against it many times over but each time they have mysteriously failed. Leading the superstitious to suspect foul witchcraft is at work. For there part, the Free Council remains aloof and has rebuffed each offer of alliance that its neighbors have made. The city is so far distant from either Drefedigaeth or Nythfa that the Sarcosan Wave generators can't maintain the anima chorus that keeps their carrionite soldiers functional, meaning that attacks must be carried out by largely untrained warriors, warships, and war dirigibles. Cataclysmos IV was christened Hell in the original colonists native tongue, it is the destination of the damned souls according to the colonists religion. Cataclysmos V was christened Cawrnwy in the original colonists native tongue. The gas giant is commonly believed to be the Prince's throne as well as the destination of all noblemen when they die. Ynnenian astronomers constantly try to catch glimpses of the physical location of this afterlife but have had no success. The local priesthood considers the practice to be blasphemy. Cataclysmos VI was christened Cariad in the original colonists native tongue. The high lords of Ynnen lost contact with their sister colonies on the mining world of Cariad in M37. It occupies a position as a tempter or devil in their religion.
