Can't hear music from the jukebox

1423977879

The DM is playing music from the Jukebox, and all other players report being able to hear it. I have checked the master music volume bar and it's up to max. I can also hear them in Voice Chat, so I am getting audio from the browser (and from Roll20's tab). I'm using Google Chrome version 40.0.2214.111, with Windows 8.1 64-bit. I don't know what could cause this. I have tried refreshing the tab, and closing it and opening the game session in another tab, and it still didn't work. Roll20 is whitelisted in Ghostery (which is the only extension I have that could possibly block something like that, although I don't think it would).

The music is actually coming from SoundCloud so it's very possible that your Ghostery extension is the culprit. If you open the console log , do you see any errors?
I completely deactivated Ghostery and restarted Chrome, and tested. It won't play and I get the following messages in the console log: Mixed Content: The page at '<a href="https://app.roll20.net/editor/" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/editor/</a>' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure video '<a href="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/78092848/stream?client_id=bbee575fe431e873910d2a874e013989" rel="nofollow">http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/78092848/stream?client_id=bbee575fe431e873910d2a874e013989</a>'. This content should also be served over HTTPS. stream:1 GET <a href="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/78092848/stream?client_id=bbee575fe431e873910d2a874e013989" rel="nofollow">http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/78092848/stream?client_id=bbee575fe431e873910d2a874e013989</a>

If you're not able to just click on that link: <a href="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/78092848/stream?c" rel="nofollow">http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/78092848/stream?c</a>... And get an audio file playing then something locally to your computer is blocking that content from playing.

I've been experiencing the same issue (as DM or tested as Player), where... Jukebox (and that Link in Steve's post above) does NOT play on my Mac OS 10.10.2, Google Chrome Version 40.0.2214.111 (64-bit). But it does play on my Windows 7 PC, side by side (also Google Chrome Version 40.0.2214.111 m). Same username, same WiFi connection, different computer. So as Steve said, it seems to be something set wrong on 1 of my laptops, and may be the same for Kiloku. When I click the link (Steve's post), on my Mac, I get this: 502 Bad Gateway The server returned an invalid or incomplete response. Same for you, Kiloku? On my Windows 7 computer, it starts playing the song as expected. Additional Notes: It's been not-working (read: silent jukebox) on my Mac for a couple weeks. Just now getting around to troubleshooting it, and tested and found it works (same campaign, same login, same WiFi/ISP, different laptop). So, "something locally to your computer is blocking that content from playing" -- Steve. Any ideas what could be blocking it? I don't have any Extensions or anything non-default set up to block, and, Jukebox was working on this computer up until recently. In the interim I changed nothing except for letting Chrome update automatically. I know I last used Jukebox extensively on my campaign in December and it worked fine on my Mac then. As my issue seems the same as Kiloku, I'll join this thread, rather than starting anew.

Same here, started a few weeks ago. Not sure if its soundcloud related or locally. Some songs would play, some wouldn't. I could goto the soundcloud page, and play it fine. in jukebox nothing. If I cleared my entire browser cache it would play fine in roll20 until I visited soundcloud itself in a browser..then those same songs wouldn't play again in roll20. I went as far as totally removing all of chrome and any residual files, reinstalling chrome 'vanilla' with nothing added..same issue. Im lost on what does it.

Gold, does it work on some browsers but not others? If it's not working on any of them it's a computer specific issue which means it could be your anti-virus or local firewall. You should also try clearing the cache as I've heard of some people having cookie issues with the parent Sound Cloud site.

Excellent test. It plays the Jukebox sound properly in Safari browser on this Mac. Does not work (it's silent) on Google Chrome, same Mac. What does that tell? P.S. I did clear the Google cache yesterday trying to fix this, but as I don't know exactly how cache-clearing works, I realize I may have done the clear while my campaign was open in Roll20 in another tab, so do I need to shut down all my tabs then clear the cache, or that would be the same?

In Chrome, upper right hand corner, options menu, more tools, developer tools. (or option key, mac key, i) While the dev tools are open click and hold on the refresh button until a drop down opens allowing you to Empty Cache and Hard Reload.

I just did the "Empty Cache and Hard Reload" as Steve described. No change. Still silent Jukebox in Mac / Chrome. Still working in Mac / Safari. Something I noticed is --- if I've got Chrome and Safari open together, I can click Jukebox Play as GM in the Chrome and it will sound in Safari. Also it plays on other players computers when play-is-clicked on my silent Chrome. Additional steps I took just in case it mattered: Shut down all my Chrome tabs. Restarted Mac computer. Then did Steve's "Empty Cache and Hard Reload" instructions. Restarted again. Opened Chrome again (being certain not to open anything like my Soundcloud). Tried the Jukebox --- still silent as described. Thoughts?

Steve K. said: Options menu, History, Clear Browsing Data, All Check Boxes, Since the Beginning of Time I did as Steve said, in Google Chrome. It fixed the problem. There is sound. I went Chrome &gt; Options Menu (the three bars icon) &gt; History &gt; Clear Browsing Data &gt; *** I checkmarked everything EXCEPT Passwords and Auto-Form Fill because I was hoping to keep those things** &gt; "Since the beginning of time" setting. Note that I was able to not-erase my Chrome Passwords, Chrome Autofill, and this still worked to repair the problem. I would recommend this solution to anyone else having problems with Jukebox in Chrome browser.
Seems the only box you need to check is Cookies and other site and plug-in data.
I was having the same problem, followed Nowebbasic's modification to Steve's suggestion and that solved it for me as well.
Sorry for disappearing. Thanks for the replies, for me, just clearing the cache worked.
