Extreme newbie looking for information and tips for DnD 5e

So as the title states am completely new to table top games, DnD, and roll20. I was wondering if people could tell me what i need to do to start up. i have skype and such but in terms of characters sheets and how to actually play im green as can be. if some one could explain things or perhaps invite me to a group to start getting the basics i would be overwhelmingly grateful.
Have you taken alook at the free basic rules for D&D 5e? You can find them here: http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/Player... As far as helping you play the game, I don't have any free slots in my game currently, but I can usually find some time on Skype, and can always answer written questions.

Hello, Hector. I'm also really new to all of the above, but have wanted to play DnD for a while. If anyone else is interested in guiding some newbies through the experience, I'm game to participate when is available outside of my school commitments. I'll keep checking in every so often in case something pops up. (Thanks for the link, Garreth, I'm going to read it until I fall asleep, haha.)
Hehe, both of you are very welcome. If I didn't already DM four evenings a week, I'd be happy to take you guys under my wing and let you know what all that D&D stuff is about. Be warned though, it's a GMs market over here. There are far more players looking for a game than people willing to run them. Expect to have some trouble getting into a game. They fill up very quickly and GMs have the luxury of being critical of who they accept into their games.

Garreth is right... and has inspired feelings of extreme jealousy in me (4 nights a week... I WISH i had that amount to time to DM!). However, being new, green or otherwise inexperienced is not a barrier to entry. Spend time reading up on the rules, familiarise yourselves with your chosen system and their usual settings and above all else apply to play games in an honest and mature manner. Most GM's will be happy to take new players as long as you are prepared to put some time into learning during downtime, have rudimentary imaginations for role play and won't ruin a campaign by being a child (i don't mean chronologically but in terms of attitude). Don't be afraid to ask questions, the only stupid question is an unasked one. Most of all though, have fun, that is what it is all about... and if your character dies well then just possess a new one (role players are essentially brain leeches of the fictional population lol).
I am currently running the Tyranny of Dragons campaign. This is my first time running 5e, and I have a first-time player in the group, so there's some rules discussion that you might find helpful. The only software we're using is Roll20, which we use for the virtual tabletop and video chat. You can find the videos here if you want to check them out.
Thanks everyone for the update on the status of the searches and for the tips (and video links!). I found a group of fairly new players with a DM who seems to be very willing in helping me through the steps of getting started. I'm excited to get going. ^^
