As the topic would suggest. I'm one off them not so mysterious noobs. And in short, I am looking for a group who are willing to show me the ropes. So to speak. So anyway, a little bit about myself is in order. Also, wall of text incoming. First off I am one off those wannabe old men at the "ripe old age" off 33. I live at the ass end of nowhere in Norway, which is why I am looking for games online. Since there are no groups active in the area I live in. Currently unemployed but looking for work, hence why I am looking for groups who play evenings/nights. So its not going to clash with anything. I prefer to have an open dialogue with the GM and those I play with. For example, if a player or gm is curious/concerned about something I did during a session. Doesn't matter to me how trivial it might seem, feel free to poke me and have a conversation about it. Especially if its on the concern side, I'd take talking things through over letting it fester any day off the week. Timezone/Availability: CET (UTC+1) Although daylights saving time will start later this month (29th March). From that date it will be CEST (UTC+2). Due to what I briefly mentioned above I am looking for games that fit the 1900-0000 CET/CEST window. Although it is possible for me to join games that starts earlier in some cases. Especially during weekends. As for games that end later, those could be a problem for me, since I would have to start talking more softly and at lower volumes due to the walls here not stopping sound that well. But feel free to poke me even if it is slightly outside off my preferred time window. Have a chat with me about it and we can figure out if it will work or not. Experience: I've played a one shot off Call of Cthulu about 10-12+ years ago. Which all I remember from is my character swore off drinking, accidentally burned another player character to death with a molotov cocktail. And then failing so badly at trying to revive that character. It counted as desecration. So... fun times. In the last 4 months I've played two short games using the Apocalypse World system. And a short game using the Numenera system. The game were more open world though. I've also done roleplaying in MMO's like Star Wars Galaxies, World Of Warcraft and Star Wars The Old Republic. As well as various random forum and IRC roleplaying. Most off it is ancient history by now though. So I still feel a bit rusty at it. While the following isn't what I'd call experience, I figured I'd mention it. I did buy the Core Ruleset Book 1-3 for D&D back in 2000-2003. ( don't remember if they're 3rd or 3.5 edition.) But I've read through parts off the Player handbook a few times. I've also watched some off ItMeJP's rollplay shows, so I've seen a few systems in action so to speak. Like Dark Heresy, Stars Without Number, AD&D, 5th ed D&D, Apocalypse World, Numenera and Shadowrun. Hobbies and interests that may be relevant: I'm a pc gamer through and through. And my favorite genre is definitively RPG's. I've loved and played pretty much every Bioware RPG to date. Even the sequels to them that wasn't made by Bioware. Except the Neverwinter Nights MMO. Which I'm trying to forget it exists. Othe RPG's I enjoy includes games like The Witcher 1-2 (GIEF 3 already) Icewind Dale 1-2, The Elder Scrolls 3-5, Fallout 3/New Vegas, Diablo 1-3, Torchlight 1-2, Dungeon Siege 1-2 Divinity Original Sin and Wasteland 2. The list goes on. But that should give you a decent enough picture off what I like. I'm also a fan off Sci Fi franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica(new one), and Warhammer 40K. I also enjoy reading books like Wheel of Time, the various books on Dragon Age, The various book on Drizzt Do'Urden, A couple off Discworld books, Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit. I also got the entire Game of Thrones book series lined up ready for reading whenever I get around too it. I've also dabbled a little in writing myself. Amateur stuff, never written anything off note or substantial. And I've been doing very little off it in the last 10 years. So, what am I looking for? I would prefer to start out with a simpler system. I have tried both Apocalypse World and Numenera, and I've yet to die horribly due to stupidity. So that' at least a good sign. My main focus is learning, but I'm not against trying more Numenera and Apocolypse World (especially since I feel I have more to learn in those systems). But in short I have a slight preference for Sci-Fi. Especially if the system is in a franchise I am a fan off. As for hack and slash, story driven, linear, open world. I'm up for anything. But I'm a sucker for a good story and interesting places to explore. What characters do I like to play? My standard go to is the boring white straight male warrior/archer/rogue type. Its what you call my comfort zone. But I've been trying more and more characters outside off that comfort zone in recent years. Expanding my horizon as it were. I generally try pick what I want to play according to what is interesting and also fits with the group. And have no issue with changing a character if the group thinks the current concept I presented isn't going to work. Most off my characters fit withing the Chaotic Good and Lawful Neutral. And I prefer to play characters that are not straight up evil or good. I'm also fond off giving my character's flaws, for the most part these flaws tend to be fluff for the roleplaying aspect. But sometimes also flaws from a game mechanic side. I might as well also mention I've used Teamspek/ventrilo/mumble/skype in various MMO's and roleplay settings in the past. And I've heard no complaints about the current mic I'm using. Although I religiously use push to talk. Anywho, feel free to poke me wither here or in PM with any questions you might have. And have a great day. ^^ Nils Jørgen. Edit: added extra info.
