Ok it looks like we have a fair amount of interest so let's do this right. Legend of the Five Rings "Trail of Petals" introduction campaign for new players. What to Expect Legend of the Five Rings is a tabletop game in the fictional world of Rokugan which is based on feudal Japan. L5r is different from many other tabletops in that it's not combat heavy, there is no treasure hunting, there is no battle map, political skill can be just as powerful as sword skill, and you are forced into the strict social caste system of Samurai culture. This is a heavy role play focused tabletop with some strict social requirements. I love this system but it is not for every tabletop player. This will be a friendly introduction campaign to the Legend of the Five Rings system (but it is also open to experienced players). During this campaign we will go though character creation, skirmishes, duels, mass combat, political combat, and everything else that L5r is known for. The campaign will be about 5-6 weeks long with the possibility of continuing into a full campaign after that. Requirements (1) You will need to have the L5r 4th Edition Core Rulebook. There are many other supplement books out there for 4th, and I highly encourage you to get them until your hearts content, but at a minimum you will just need the 4th edition Core Rulebook. If you do not have a copy I will provide one so you do not have to spend money if this ends up not being something for you. (2) You will need Skype and a microphone. L5r is very roleplay heavy and I find it just too cumbersome to use text. I use Skype as I find the built in roll20 talk crashes too frequently. (3) I live in Eastern Standard time and I have Tuesday nights and Saturday before 7:00 PM available. We will pick one or the other and play at that time every week. As a group we will decide which day, but If you are interested you will need to have that day available regularly. If you can only play every other Saturday, than it probably will not work out. Over 6 weeks ultimately some people will not be able to make every play session but I will need a confirmation that you can at least make it on a regular basis and you are willing to play the entire 6 weeks. (4) There will be some mandatory reading. L5r is different than most other rpgs and part of playing the game is understanding the culture and the world you are playing in. You cannot just have a character sheet and show up to be able to play L5r, you have to have a basic understanding of the culture. There will be 30-40 pages of mandatory reading from the Core Rule Book, another 50 pages of highly suggested reading, and 1000's of pages of suggested reading (not required, but seriously there is a lot of lore in this game). You have to be willing to read a little lore if you want to play L5r. The Next Step If you have read the requirement and are interested in playing (and I really hope you are, despite the heavy requirements this is my favorite rpg I have ever played) than I ask you to PM me confirming the information in the requirements and what days you have available/are preferred. From there I will be sending out the next set of information and providing the Core Rule Book to whoever needs it. On our first play session we will be going through character creation together, and learning the various forms of combat (skirmishes, duels, mass combat, and political). So you do not need to have a character rolled up prior to game play, we will be doing that together. I hope you are all interested and I look forward to hearing from you!
