Looking to play D&D 5e for the first time.

So i've finally made my first character; to my surprise was pretty hard to do for the first time. Anyway i tried looking for groups, but i got a weird competitive vibe since there is always like 10 people trying to get in, and it never really feels welcoming for new players. So i decided i'll just make this post and maybe someone will come to me and help. I'm propbably to lazy to actually find a good group for new players, but oh well.
