On the character sheet it tells you what the check by telling you. You can type: Balance check: [[d20+5]] which will roll the d20, add 5 to it and then post it on a line like: Balance check: 14 (the D&D3.5 sheet looks a little fancier than that because it uses roll templates but the essence of what it is doing is ^. ) If, as a GM, you want to do roll something for your player you can type it in: George's balance: [[d20+5]] you can get a little fancier and use queries: ?{who?|George}'s ?{what?|balance}: [[d20+?{bonus|0}]] which asks you who (for a name) what (for which skill) and for a bonus (for how much to add to the d20). If you get further into making macros there are other ways to get fancier also.
