Change Who's Talking (bottom combo box) via Macro/API

So, my GM has asked me if there's a way to change the 'As' combo box via either API or macro to reflect who the selected token is. For example, I have 2 names in my 'As' drop down, Amanda (no token) and Jaida (token). I have a token ability for Perception that's attached to the Jaida token. Right now, what I can get it to do is display the selected token's name, but that gives me a funny looking line like this: 'Amanda Jaida looks around: 20' The intent is to have it emote 'Jaida looks around: <roll>', no matter who's the current selection in the 'As' box. My Googlefu has failed though, and I'm not able to identify anything that can do this. Is this possible through either API or even regular macros? Thank you!

No, there is no means to do this using a normal macro. There is no means to actually change the selection with the API, however the API is capable of sending messages as any player or character in the campaign. (Or as characters which don't exist.) For GM use only, the commands /as and /emas can approximate this. The commands will let the GM speak as or emote as any named character, however the messages won't actually be coming from that character and thus will not have the character's avatar in the chat. /emas Jaida looks around: [[d20+@{Jaida|perception-mod}]] will get you the sort of thing you're looking for, although it won't work for anyone without GM permissions in the campaign.
Thank you Brian! This will be a big help to our GM!
