D&D Next: Witcher setting lvl 1 (weekday evenings 9:00pm PST)

Alright ive given myself 2 days off at work (Great ability when you are the boss :D ) Gonna be knocking out my character tonight and fleshing out some of the backstory over the next couple of days. Ill upload/share when im done.
The bard has some of the coolest abilities, what with the free passage and spreading stories and such.

Zachary O. said: The bard has some of the coolest abilities, what with the free passage and spreading stories and such. Welcome Zach! Yeah I always felt the bard should shine in social scenarios. :) Druid or Wizard are both viable choices. Also the 081712 playtest I believe has sorcerer & warlock up to level 5 (they were pulled out of subsequent playtested for major re-working). Druids in the Witcher setting are most strong associated with the Skellige Islands and some connections to Melitele and the elven religion. Wizards tend to belong to the Brotherhood of Sorcerers / Lodge of Sorceresses though they are a few lesser traditions and independent mages wandering around too.
Charles C. said: i don't have much experience with D&D Next as i have only seen it played and never been able to play it myself but i would like to try if you don't mind helping me generate a character.. i have lots of experience with other editions of D&D and am a very good roleplayer i would like to play as a fighter or a ranger but i'm willing to play as anything also what day of week will this be on i can do any day except saturday thru monday Charles, are you still interested? Or should I free your spot for someone else? Thanks!
Spazz451 said: Sorry, I somehow forgot you listed play time in the title by the time I reached the end. Looks like you are starting 2 hours later than ideal for me. Good that I know my kids will be down by then but it may run too late for me by the end of the session. How long did you plan to run each time? Hey Spazz451, I remember that the timing might be an issue for you. Are you still interested or should I free your spot for someone else? Thanks!
Yeah. Though since Jaedlyn is playing a witcher I think I may go a fighter. It'll be an easier role for me to get into since I know very little about the setting. I was thinking possibly post military (retired) but running out of money he finds himself back in harms way. Though he claims it's for the defense of the nation. What is Sabina's background? Just curious if there would be a good hook to link the two of us. I can see my character fitting the following character hooks: Only survivors of monster attack Mentor and apprentice (possibly) Former dungeon cell-mates (he's down on his luck) Former town militia Veterans of Second Nilfgaard War Ward and protector (He'll take any job!) Former members of grifter crew (He'll take any job!) Escaped lynch mob together (He'll take any job!) Members of same adopted family
I'm glad you're still interested Spazz. It might be fun if your PC and Cody's PC had escaped from a lynch mob at some point? Btw, Cody should make this introduction but I'll cover for him: His PC is Tristan, a half-elven bard from the Skellige Islands who is a bit of a charlatan/con, is very well traveled, and apparently pissed off some Sylvans (dryads) along the way. I'm not sure what brought him to Aldersberg yet. I have a big post not too far up thread with a table for Character Relationships (which Spazz referenced) and Character Hooks to First Adventure. Check those out and post your ideas. If we don't do that, we'll probably end up with a bunch of loner misfit orphan hobo murderers... not that that's not kind of genre appropriate... EDIT: To be clear, this RP wouldn't actually start until late July or early August because (1) I am traveling and (2) I want to give everyone time to talk about their characters shared backstories/motives and to send me their char sheets.
I heard word of a witchers involvment in a dragon attack recently and is seeking information on how exactly, a Witcher decided to attack and possibly slay a Dragon. I hear word of some missives that would seem like good money for witchers around Aldersberg and travled there in result.

You know, even though I think that's an allusion to events from Witcher 2, there's no reason a player with a Witcher PC couldn't incorporate a dragon into their character background.
Aaron still looking for players?
MrOwneddeath said: Aaron still looking for players? Yes, we've got room for two more I believe.
Quick update: I've received characters from Jaedlyn (witcher), Cody (bard), and recently Tristan (wizard). I'm sending out formal invites to the campaign, which will lock slots in for the three of you. If something comes up where you need to bail, I completely understand, just let me know. Also, I keep saying it but I REALLY mean it: Discuss your character ideas with each other. What Spazz did above, for example, was awesome - he made a list of the character relationship hooks that would work for his fighter. Anyone take him up on some of those ideas? So was Cody dropping the "seeking the dragon" hook. Maybe that can tie into the monsters which attacked Jaedlyn's mother when fleeing with refugees?
I would be interested in playing depending on the day. I will PM you for more info.
I think we are looking at Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings at 9:00pm pacific time. Btw, here's a map of the Northern Kingdoms. It's a little blurry, but Aldersberg lies between Vengerberg (in southern Aedirn) and Lyria (in, well, Lyria). Northern Kingdoms map
I have chosen to be a cleric. My character is the bastard son of some Termerian nobleman who then send him into the Order of Eternal Flame in order to be rid of him. My Cleric given his background is not actually all the devout (though he pays lip services to avoid getting into trouble) and is known to just make stuff about the faith up when it suits his purposes (unless a superior is around or someone knowledgeable). I'm not quite sure how to connect him to the rest of the party and would love to hear suggestions.
We really should figure out what day the game will be held on. I was told either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thrusday, I free on the later 2 but not Thursday. I'm sorry to push on this issue but I would prefer to know if I can even play before I invest any more time.
I would really like to play as this sounds AWESOME!!! If there is room for one more, I am available wednesday/thursday. I was also curious if, since the next packet is supposed to come out soonish, and it possibly (kinda likely) will have the return of the sorcerer and warlock, if for the time being I could use one of them from playtest packet three. Or if it suits your tastes, I could play as a magicless cleric (gaining hd, attack bonus, and deadly strike, and any weapon/armor proficiencies) who is collored for the time being so cannot use magic, and then when/if the sorcerer comes out, I can become unleashed. Also for connections it would be easy enough for me to be a ward of the wizard who cannot properly control their magic yet, and so for their own safety and the safety of those around him is collored. Or I could be a prisoner who is being taken to the authorities when they became trapped in the small town.

So far it looks like Niall is the 6th player in the group. However, my guess is with these sorts of online games players tend to drop off. If you're comfortable bowing out in case all 6 players do end up participating, then I'm comfortable having you "on deck" to play.

Right now I am leaning toward Wednesdays, but I'm going to need a little leeway before firming up the schedule. Is Wednesday good for everyone?
I'm fine being on deck, and wednesday's should be fine.
I have the august playtest packet and I took how the cleric looked in it and how the cleric looks now, and doing roughly the same things to it for the time being as they were more or less the same besides spells. The result is here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B19Ydj2JnGmzNWdfYmdyalY3Tmc/edit?usp=sharing
Please comment and modify as you see fit. But I will be a half-elf one of those, will send a character sheet very shortly will still be shackled, but will gain the non-magical benefits of being a sorcerer at least, and I am unsure if this fits with lore, but I think it would be fun if the reason that I never went to one of the magical academies was because I was not born a source. I was transformed into one by an experiment that is similar to the process that witchers go through, it used an alchemical preparation of select dragon organs. I have the collar to prevent myself from harming myself or those around me and also to preserve my sanity as the force has a tendancy to drive they untrained sources mad.
Also, I am going to at least for now work under the assumption that directly offensive/defensive spells are the sorcerer speal, and use the wizard spell list -anything that wouldn't generally be used in a stressful situation. Without further ado, what I have right now as far as the character goes is right here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B19Ydj2JnGmzMUZxS3FOdHhJUVU/edit?usp=sharing

Though the 14th+ level powers of winged flight and dragon form might be overpowered and ill-suited to the setting. Then again, we may never reach 14th level and I really like how your character concept gels together! Could even end up as a Saskia-type character (Witcher 2 reference). You and Cody may want to chat since I believe his character hook involves tracking down a dragon or a witcher hunting a dragon.
Could try wednesday.
My character looks something like this: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B19Ydj2JnGmzLXZhM0FPLVd1Qk0/edit?usp=sharing
Wednesday will be great for me.
Wednesday is no good for me. Our softball schedule was changed up and we have mostly late games on Wednesdays.

So has there been any consensus on the games start date?
So when is this shindig looking at beginning?
So far it looks like the day of the week will most likely be Wednesday (waiting on Aaron to confirm that). No date has been set, or atleast none I have been told about.
Hey guys I've been talking to Aaron about joining and have made a character. I haven't made a backstory and haven't finished putting in other misc items i would use like bed supplies etc. I've never played a DnD style game before so i would like some help on that sort of stuff. So i will post my character sheet at the end of this comment but what i'm thinking is a sort of nobel elvish child. He has been spoiled his whole life and has never had it hard. He reads a lot of books and has taught himself magic in the library his family owns. He never really interacted with others and tends to stay distant to people he has newly met. Because of not much social interaction he is slightly socially awkward and tends to not say much. I think a character hook would go here like he ventures to help Aldersberg with his friend, or he goes to help a friend in Aldersberg, or someone saves him from an encounter with the kings army and he follows them to Aldersberg to repay the debt etc. Feel free to comment on character hooks our characters could have together or objects i should be carrying in my pack because i'll probably check back once or twice a day. Looking forward to playing with you guys. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1_HlONo2EmCb0NKeHB5czdsVG8/edit?usp=sharing
a noble elf doesn't really fit into the witcher world... Elves are sorta second class citizens....
An elf inside an all elven community in a forest far outside of one of the greater cities might think they are noble. But when a few drunk guys beat them for the fun of it and the guards do nothing but laugh and beat them some more they will have that outlook spun on its head pretty fast. The elf would have to be sheltered to an insane degree if they don't understand why.
Personally I'm really looking forward to getting this campaign started. I don't play serious campaigns very often so this will be interesting. I only wish Aaron would give an update :(
I am beginning to think he backed out without telling us, hope i am wrong.
I will try PMing him incase he is just forgetting to check the thread.
Guys I PMed Aaron four days ago and still have not heard anything from him. I hate to say it but it looks like this game may be dead.

Hi guys, I believe I told most of you I'd be traveling without Internet access. Anyhow, I returned this weekend and am catching up on everything. No I haven't backed out of this game, just give it another week and I should be good to go! Also...many of you have work to do on your characters' relationships with each other & hooks to the first adventure. Since no one has really taken the initiative on that I'm assuming everyone is more comfortable figuring that out in our first game session? So we'll focus on character stuff, and any time left over we'll start the adventure. So far here are the players signed up: Cody - half-elven bard, a bit of a charlatan/con, angered some sylvans, well-traveled Jaedlyn - witcher, refugee orphan of Nilfgaard Spazz451 - fighter...what's this character's background? Tristan - elven mage, concept needs some work to fit the Witcher setting! Zachary - Druid...what's this characters background? Niall - human cleric, order of the flaming rose, described as "not particularly pious"

Tentatively looking at next Wednesday, August 21st @ 6:00pm PST as our first game. Does that work for most of you? Spazz, I realize your softball schedule conflicts with that, so if you really want to play in the game I am open to alternating the day we play on each week. Billy, since Spazz cannot do Wednesdays and you are "on deck", I'm fine with you being the sixth player on Wednesday.
I cannot play at 6:00pm PST, the earliest I can do is 7:00pm and even then I will be a little late (like 5 to 15 minutes depending on the day).
I have almost the exact same issue as Niall.
Alright, using Pacific Standard Time as our base, what times on Tuesday and/or Wednesday work for everyone who is interested in playing?
I cannot do Tuesdays. I can do Wednesday from 7:00pm PST and later.
I cannot do tuesdays. I may be able to do wednesday from 7:15pm PST or later (preferrably a bit later as my class ends at 7pm and 15 minutes barely gives me enough time to get home.
Ok, thanks guys. How about everyone else?
Cody P. said: Cody, when are you free to play on Tuesday an/or Wednesday in Pacfic Standard Time?
