Let's Explore D&D 5E

I'd like to try DM'ing a D&D Fifth Edition (5E) scenario. I DM'd D&D quite a lot many years ago, back in the olden days when face-to-face was the only option. Then, after a break of many years, I've tried playing a number of games of Pathfinder. I like what I've seen of D&D 5E so I'd like to try DM'ing it. I'm very familiar with DM'ing in general, but I'll be new to the D&D 5E rules (as everyone will be to some extent since the rules are still quite new). So the pace may be a bit slow to start, then pick up as we all get more familiar with the mechanical details. My general idea at this point is that the game will be once per week, on Sundays, roughly 9 am to 1 pm Pacific Time (I'm on the West Coast of the USA). We'll start with a "session zero" (probably on Sunday, July 5) where we do some introductory things like review character sheets, talk about our characters etc., then actually start playing in the following session. I will run either the starter scenario (Lost Mines of Phandelver) or a D&D 5E scenario (like Horde of the Dragon Queen) and I'm open to suggestions in this regard, subject to the rule that it has to start at level one. To start out, we'll be using Roll 20 for dice rolling and Skype for verbal communication, but I won't have Roll 20 visual maps. That may change as things progress. If you're interested, post something here indicating 1) whether you are over 21 years old, 2) what class you would like to play, 3) what scenario you would like to play and 4) any other comments or suggestions you may have. If there appears to be sufficient interest, I will post further details.
Hello! I have been 'so' interested in playing 5E pretty much since those beta packets were being released, but haven't really had the chance. And this 'definitely' sounds like it'd be an opportunity to do so! So, answering your questions... I'm 'not' over 21, but I 'am' 20 and almost 21! Promise I'm awesome in spite of that though! I would love playing either a Warlock or a Monk, not too picky about which I play! In agreement with Nosferatu, I'm pretty good with whichever so long as it provides plenty of rp opportunities! An~d, for that last question? I'm not really too sure! What days we'd be meeting weekly, I guess?

Hey there! Name's David, i'm a 22yo dutchman who prides himself on near-native level english. And i'd be very interested in playing with you guys! For a while now, i've been very interested in playing 5th DnD but for some reason, i just can't seem to find myself a game that lasts; i've only really played one shots so far. funnily enough 5e is the reason i got into roll20 in the first place, but it's paradoxically been easier to find games for less popular systems. That said, i really love some of the things about 5th so i want to play whatever there is to offer! As far as pre-made modules go, i know absolutely none of them, so i really wouldn't mind playing either of those - but from what i've herad of them general, i'd probably enjoy the more expansive HotDQ, especially because it can apparantly also continue into another one. As far as classes go, i like gishes (spellblades), characters with stealth, and conceptually i like spears, druids, warlocks and monks a lot. The character that i'd pretty much have "ready to go" would be Aldrin Fletcher, a Mercenary who almost died one day and was brought back by some kind of Fiendish entitiy, making him a melee warlock. He'd be a party face + damage dealer, but i love making characters (it's my favorite part of RPGs) so i wouldn't be against stepping away from my preconcepted character and making something new. edit: sundays at that time i would be avaialble every week
Hello, Tony here, and I hope being 21 counts as being "over" 21 :P Personally I have been in several games on roll20 but they always fall through after a session or two, which generally don't go far anyway. This is mostly cause I was trying it with a friend who was new to DM'ing and is perhaps a bit ADHD when it comes to playing different RPs. Anyway I have been listening to a 5e podcast and reading up on the book a bit and would like to join your group. To answer your other question, I would like to be a Half-Orc or Human, probably either a Fighter, Warlock, or Wizard for class. I am not entirely sure about Background but that doesn't matter just yet. As far as a scenario, Horde of the Dragon Queen seems like a pretty good choice from what I can tell without reading into it. Finally, I have a question to ask of my own. Since in 5e multiclassing is considered an "optional rule," are we allowed multiclassing? Thank you for your time,
Heya, I'm Brandon. I used to play 3.5e in high school, but my group kinda dispersed afterwards. Life, you know? I've been trying to get a 5e game going for a while with no luck or no interest from other potential players. So, I'd love to join you. I'm 23, and that Sunday morning time block is perfect for me. I'm not particularly picky about classes or races, though I do have a soft spot for halflings. I can work with what the party may need. As for scenarios, I have read through the players handbook, but I have not had the chance to actually play this edition. The starter scenario might be a good place to explore our group dynamic or get used to the mechanic changes. On the other hand, taking a "session zero" to build characters, balance eachother, and set a foundation for a bigger campaign sounds beneficial. It would help those of us that are rusty or unfamiliar with the edition explore it a bit and sets up a solid party. I'm up for either.
Some quick answers: 1. Scenario: still to be announced, but probably either Phandelver, Princes of the Apocalypse or Hoard of the Dragon Queen 2. (@ChampionofJustice) Game time will be Sunday mornings (US West Coast time zone), tentatively from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm 3. (@DavidJ) If you can speak English as well as this Dutch guy, https://youtu.be/dOTxLV4kEGM, then you are already far above the minimum level of English required to play D&D in English. 4. (@Kurumento) No multiclassing at first, in order to keep things as simple as possible. Of course, that doesn't matter at level one and that may change as we get more comfortable with the Fifth Edition rules.
@Strangways Ok, that probably changes my prefered class to Fighter with the Champion archetype, still a Half-Orc, probably a female if no one else makes a female character. Of course we would have session zero to work it all out I just want to inform just in case that would not be acceptable for the scenario.
Oh, yeah, that time would actually be 'perfect' for me!
Hello ^^ well you posted on my little post so I read through here. So I'm a 25 year old German girl and got into D&D recently with the the Geek&Sundry channel on Twitch which hosts a D&D session weekly with 9 American voice actors. So I'm pretty much a Noob with this system XD This is also why I can't give input on the possible campaign since I don't know enough about either of them. Generally I'd love to play a female elven or half elven druid though if necessary I could switch to something like rogue or fighter. though I have played so many fighting characters on my DSA rounds that I'd like to try something with magic ^^; And sundays 9AM-1PM pacific time would be perfect since it's in the evening here XD

Druids are always welcome although their shape shifting abilities are considerably diminished in Fifth Edition D&D.
Well I wasn't sure if there was already somebody who wanted to play a druid or if more than one of one class were alright XD

Hi there, I would be interested in joining your campaign. Like Kurou, above, watching Critical Role on twitch had rekindled my interest for D&D. I am a member of one campaign starting out that runs biweekly on Saturdays, but would like to find a weekly game to go along with that. As for the answers to your questions: 1) I am 26 years old, 2) I am open for any class that the group needs me to play (except for fighter, as I am playig a fighter in the other campaign I mentioned). If I could choose from anything, I might go with a rogue or a caster of some kind. I'm not picky at all though. More interested in creating a character that helps the group and has an interesting or fun backstory/role-playing potential rather than picking the perfect class and minmaxing it. 3) Any scenario is fine for me. I have very little 5e experience, and so I'll leave it up to the DM. The other campaign I'm in that's just starting out is completely homebrew so there would be no conflicts there. 4) other comments: your Sunday morning time works for me great for me. (I'm on the east coast) edit: one question - how many players are you aiming for?

1) I am 28 years old 2) this is my first D&D campaign I have tried to get in. I have watched well over 100+ hours 3.5e on twitch D&D streaming and various full campaigns on YouTube. I have seen some 5e as well just not extremely familiar with it. As far as character I think maybe fighter/cleric would be good for classes but I'm also open for caster type. Coming up with back story and such would be no problem as I have thought some out depending on class. Basically I'm open for whatever based on party needs and can create accordingly. 3) I'm open to any scenario. 4) the Sunday sessions may be an issue every once in a while for me so Is that date/time set in stone or is there some flexibility? Or possibility of a change? If you are willing to take on a "noob" of sorts I'm an extremely fast learner and pick up on things very quickly. Would love to join the campaign. edit: I am EST by the way for what it's worth to you. Not sure if that knowledge helps you in any way with planning/choosing your players
HI, I've never played D&D. I bought the starter kit and made a bunch of characters with my daughter and have been playing against a random dungeon generator and the first part of the starter story. I'd like to try this out. I'm 36 and this has been fun with my 6 year old daughter, but i'd prefer a story where i didn't have to explain that the mean old goblins hurt the ponies. We also had to save the Katy Perry from the Bugbear. I think sunday would be good for me after 10. I am new but looking at the players handbook and think i'd like to play pretty much anything. the stuff online shows a goliath. a goliath fighter with greatsword would be fun or a high elf rogue arcane trickster OR a monk. monks look badass..
@Strangways JB makes a good point, are we using Elemental Evil Player's Companion? Since that is the supplement book that includes Goliath.

@Kuremento We would be using the Elemental Evil Player's Companion only if we were playing Princes of the Apocalypse, as the EEPC is specific to that campaign.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a bit mean or anything, but it is Kuremento, not Kurumento :X EDIT: Also I wasn't sure if it was or not. The podcast I listen to about D&D didn't make it seem like it was. Thank you for the clarification :) EDIT2: Thanks for fixing that :)
Further games details and player selection: 1. The campaign will be Hoard of the Dragon Queen, a campaign suitable for four players, starting at level 1 and ending at level 7. You will start shortly before arriving in the town of Greenest, which, as you will see, is in great need of assistance. 2. Six players will be selected. The reasons for selecting six, rather than four, are so that the absence of a single player on a particular day won't preclude the group from playing, and because it's much easier to continue on with five (or four) players if someone drops out, than to drop from four players to three (or two), and then have to try to find more players part-way through. In the meantime, I can adjust encounters to scale for six players. 3. I don't have any particular rule for selecting which six. I thought I might have the reverse problem of too few being interested, rather than too many. So I will just go with the first six. That means the six players will be 1) Nosferatu, 2) Champion of Justice, 3) David J, 4) Kuremento, 5) Brandon R, and 6) Kurou Y. If any of you have changed your mind, let me know so I can invite others. If not, I'll be sending invites to each of you. 4. The first day is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, 2015, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Pacific (California) time. This will be a "session zero" during which we will finalize our character sheets, work through any technology issues (like making sure we can all communicate via Skype) and that sort of thing, with actual game play commencing on day 2. 5. Between now and July 5, let me know in the game discussion forum what class and race you have chosen. Any class or race in the Player's Handbook is available. Keep in mind that certain races (like Tiefling or Dragonborn) will entail major social disadvantages. There is no rule against two players choosing the same class, but obviously we cannot have a group consisting of six wizards, or six clerics, or six of any single class. Given what you have posted so far, I don't think we should have the problem of too many players wanting to play the same class. Ideally, at least one of you should be capable of healing (i.e. cleric or druid), at least one of you should be relatively "tanky" (e.g. a fighter) and at least one of you should be some type of spell caster. 6. Finally, I should say that my proficiency with Roll20 is quite limited, having used it as a player, but not as a DM, so there may be a relatively high degree of imagination involved, and a relatively low degree of fancy graphics, at least until I get more familiar with it.
