Hi guys -- I'm afraid I am almost certainly not going to be able to participate this week. I'm really sorry to miss it. I may be able to drop in for a while, in which case I will probably be an observer more than anything. One question this does raise is how we handle the meeting of Horukh and Kryikh. Cos K is gonna flip when he sees H. I'm thinking probably what we could do is say that as soon as the party get back to Portlandio, Kryikh goes straight off to see his friend at the school of magic. So if others in the party meet Horukh, Kryikh is not present. Then we can play that out next time. Also, Gold, Larry and I might want to have a wee chat about how much--or what--K would know/believe about H. And even possibly vice versa.

No problem Gray, we understand. Thanks for the advance notice. I agree about K & H, and the idea of Kryikh going directly to the Magic School when you dock in Portlandio. Although we Players and the Party would prefer to have your participation at the ship docking, we will get by with the proposed work-around. It's a story where we are all the co-creators, so we are able to adjust together and be flexible for this. I'm back from my weekend travels and will be answering questions/emails and game prep today for Tuesday!
Awww Gray! Well, I do agree that the meeting of K & H ought to be an "event," and we can save that for another time. Gold, considering what Horukh has been doing in Portlandio, with the maritime law and trade treaties, he could actually be at the bay when the ship comes in. If that is handy for RP purposes. The trouble of course is that at the time he is introduced to the world of adventuring, Horukh is terrified of BEING an adventurer himself. *laugh* He is a creature of urbane tastes and high society and the closest he has ever come to even camping would be dressing himself without a valet. This may be the most inept career adventurer I have ever built, as far as going out in the wild and whacking on things. Horukh makes me uncomfortable to play, so I think it will turn out great. *grin*

Also, Gold, I have a design for an adventuring ship called a "broadcutter." Shallow-draft trimaran three-masted subschooner (corvette). Its roots are in an abandoned project with writer/producer David S Goyer, believe it or not. The broadcutter is a littoral vessel as well as a corvette, with a cutter ram just below the waterline that arcs up to the bow. It has fast-drop sails on geared rigging, an overway between fore and aft linking/strengthening the masts, two ships's boats, and an aft fuel-oil-powered paddle/oar system for escaping still water. The ship's boats could be replaced with yachts (Yacht has the same word root as jaeger. Yachts were the waterborn fighter jets of their day; these days yacht has no fighting connotation at all, but way back when if yachts were spotted, pirates would scram). If there was ever a small vessel made for seaborne-to-land adventuring, this would be the one. It may be in a shipyard when the PCs are there. Horukh may have helped design it. One of the treaties he established was the mutual-aid agreement between shipping lines, therefore corvette-class and anti-pirate vessels would be needed. Here, have more story hooks. *toss*
Hi guys, I reserved time tonight to spectate and get in a swing of things (never used roll20 before). I'll be probably just sitting quiet and listening but if I'm needed for anything, let me know. I spoke with Gold and for now as there is no space in the group I'm to keep to the background as npc/allies/adversaries (obviously when I'm not as green with the setting as now). I was super bussy last week and only had time to glance over those beefed up journals (good job btw!) and hadn't got chance to introduce myself. So in short - my name is Martin, I'm 30 years old and based in London. I played RPG until late teens and had a long break due to "life". :) I'm sure we can get to more info when we start. Looking forward to meeting you all. :)
Hello Martin, it is wonderful to meet you. I think you have found a fine bunch here. Gold is a remarkably skilled GM and this group of players are top notch. Gold is definitely not afraid of throwing someone new into an NPC role; I joined in last week to discover I was an aquatic elf amidst a bilge full of undead, so, you know, he gives you a few minutes' warning. 2e is quite fiddly and so I really don't know if I will be all sorted out by gametime, myself. The Count (Horukh the Silver) has been creating this world's analog of the Hanseatic League, so naturally he would be in Portlandia about now. Uploading a rough of his portrait now.
Welcome Martin, I hope you have fun tonight. Gold leads the game well so it won't be hard to follow the mechanics. For just observing, you might find the pace of the game to be quite slow. I'm saying because I tried watching some Roll20 games on YouTube, but got too bored. So some interaction might be a good way to keep it interesting. I'm looking forward to getting to Portlandio (new bow!) and toward the meeting of Horukh and Kryikh. It should be a fun session!

Hey Martin, welcome to the group. Hopefully we can keep things interesting enough for you while spectating. Love the Richard avatar also...

It should be alright - I spent plenty of time listening to RollPlay recordings and that didn't bore me at all so it should work out well. I can't find info on how the game is actually ran - Skype call/roll20 internal connection? I'm probably just missing this info and it is in obvious place... :) PS. Richard was with me since LFG started - it was only fitting to use it here too. :)
We use Skype for voice chat

Bad DM doesn't recognize Richard avatar. Graphic novel or cartoon character? Martin let's make sure we connect Contact request in Skype (also connect to Hans ) if we haven't yet, this will facilitate starting the voice call at game time. DM & everyone getting ready for game! The party is planning to dock a fairly large merchant ship today. They are returning to the town of Portlandio with a merchant ship they recovered from some pirates. Portlandio is a bustling boom-town on a frontier that is just being re-settled and re-civilized, many years after ancient civilizations crumbled and fled the region. Martin you can portray a Townie NPC for part of the session, one where it wouldn't be necessary to use a Character Sheet. You won't be put on the spot for long, but for a few minutes you could be called on to speak as a Town-living NPC, and just say what you think they might say. This way we can hear your voice in the session and you can participate in a small degree as introduction. Feel free to pre-imagine a personality or appearance (or 2) for some townies. It would be someone in a boom-town: either merchant, tax official, shipwright, militia captain, sheriff's deputy, lost child, homeless dwarf, inn keeper, and so on. A few of them have specific goals and motives, which I will foretell you as a secret on-the-side before the game if you opt to portray one of the NPC's who has a specific purpose. Or you can simply be an "extra", a seemingly random town-person who the party happens to engage in conversation. Jennifer -- her character, new PC, will be in the town today. Meeting Mora the Half Elf is one sub-chapter of today's session agenda. Larry -- his new character, who is associated with certain sections of Portlandio, may make his initial appearance meeting the party today (or not). We shall see. Larry and I are deep into discussions about his character background and set-up. Please attend and we will discuss this character and possibly bring him into the gameplay today. DM had a tree fall down in my yard from high winds over the weekend, and that is what I came home to yesterday. We got it cleared away and unfortunately that took up some of my time that I had available this week for game-prep and working with Larry on his new PC. Fortunately I had worked-ahead on the Town of Portlandio and there is plenty to do there, so I'll be ready for today's adventures by game time in approximately 2 hours from now.
Great stuff. I'm feeling a little under the weather so I won't post a journal today but I'll try to attend. But if it gets too bad I might leave early.

Larry -- I completed reading of your character background. All good. For introducing your character personality-wise, I think we can begin today. It's just your Character Sheet and specific skills that I haven't had time to review and approve yet, so we might we "winging it" a little bit in-game this week. Roleplaying-wise I think we are prepared to introduce Count Horukh The Silver. Hans -- We understand. Get well, play & stay as much as you feel up for it. Gray will be missing most of the session today, if able to attend at all. Portlandio Today Sail and Dock the ship, meet and deal with any claimants, Trading Company, tax-man, and so on. Meeting new NPC's, new PC's, new shops, and revisiting our existing contacts in-town. Game time starts in half-hour! Count-down is underway. There is a 49-minute pirate concert with talking, playing for the pre-game audio, up until we start the Skype call.
Feeling okay atm so we'll see how it goes. I am on Skype if anyone needs any assistance. My skype ID is h.roerdinkholder Gold and I are also present ingame.
My status for this week -- looking a bit better than last week, which I was very sorry to miss. Looking about 50/50 right now on whether I will be able to attend. Really hoping I can make it, missed you all last week.
Gray I hope you can make it! I am A-OK to play, once Gold checks out my character sheet and "fills in some blanks" with me. I got new art & a Journal entry posted in the Forum---probably in the wrong place, but I figured, I can always move it, it's better to get it posted somewhere right away though. To add to the fun, Count Horukh is a player character but not yet an adventurer. :)
On the july 21 session, I will be at home alone with my son so my attendance will be as good as he allows. Usually he'll sleep for the first couple hours but I can't guarantee anything.
