New Layout: General Discussion

Since every thread about this seems to be locked, I think I'll post one. What are your thoughts on the new site layout? The toolbar? The color palette? I personally find the new color palette hard on the eyes, with a sharp white instead of a nice cream background, and the giant WELCOME BACK is really unnessecary.
I can only assume this thread will be locked too. We raised literally every critique being brought up here on the Mentor forums weeks ago, and none of it really amounted to anything. When people bring it up now, it results in a locked thread. Not really a great message overall.
Aesthetically it's a mess. It hurts to look at, it's half empty on 1920x1018, posts are very poorly distinguished, the kerning on everything is all over the place, and there isn't a single consistent stylistic choice aside from a few really annoying gradient patters overlaid on things or used as a stand in backdrop. The colors are pretty gross too, but that's the least of my concerns. I've already had a member of my regular gaming group get turned off the website today because they assumed it was incompatible with their browser, when really it was just messy, scrambled, and drab. Things need to be re-sized appropriately and a proper background has to go up somewhere, at least.
I just want to mention: I brought this up in the Mentor (now Pro) forums almost a month ago. "Ctrl -" to zoom out a step, it makes the forums nearly 100% more readable.
I find it slightly odd that the drop downs at the top don't automatically expand if you hover over them and, instead, require you to click the little triangle. Aside from it being an extra click, this is annoying because I habitually click on the actual title, since it's a much bigger target and normally how menus opperate. Unfortunately, with the current set up, this take you somewhere else all together.

I logged on earlier with no clue that they were revamping.... and I was floored. I actually thought I entered the wrong web address at first. Then I re-typed the address in again, still brought me to the wrong site. So then I looked closer and realized it was the right web address. Then I started to wonder if they got hacked by Anonymous or something, or re-directed by some nefarious means. So I started reading.... looking for signs of tampering in such a way. Nope, no foul play. So then I turned on my skype and found some messages from one of my D&D groups talking about their not liking the changes made to roll20. At that point... I was in denial. I really, really loved the 'community' feeling (albeit a bit campy) that the old site presented. That feeling of role-players gathering resources and support for Roll20 was gone. I actually miss it. I've already posted in the Mentor (now Pro) thread, however I have a feeling the majority of users will never see that discussion. It's actually news to me that a lot of features were discussed weeks prior to this, and you haven't been able to discern any of those discussions bearing fruit. Might you elaborate on that a little? I'm mostly just not liking the layout, fonts, colors, ect.... although I loved their old website.... this doesn't do anything for me at all.

When people bring it up now, it results in a locked thread. Not really a great message overall. The individual threads with bug reporting on the new design are being closed and referred to the megathread in an attempt to be able to have one place where users can report/find information on problems. This is certainly not an attempt to alienate the users, merely a way of helping the devs deal with a large amount of information on a particular subject in a short space of time. Please feel free to copy and paste any bug reports or issues with the new features into the megathread where they will be addressed as soon as is possible during what is a very busy time for Roll20. Thanks :)
I thought there was something with my net not loading the page properly. Personally, I hate it and find it very clunky, but will just get used to it. It isn't like the forum interface has ever been that good to begin with.
While there do seem to be actual bugs and some interface problems that they seem to be working on fixing, I like the new general layout. It took me a moment to get over the initiatial shock of the change, but I am enjoying the new style. I guess it is like art very subjective. As long as they fix actuall interface problems soon, wich it sounds like that is exactly what they are doing all should be good very shortly.
In an effort to consolidate threads and keep everything on track today, please feel free to direct any general constructive feedback you have to this thread today: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/2215323/new-desi... We've made some changes that address some of the issues you all brought up here, and we're going to keep working to improve the new design. Thanks!
