I've noticed there is some strange behavior when using the back button to move between pages.  This seems particularly true if you click to view a private message in the notifications, then go backward.  You might expect to get the same list you saw previously, or the updated list of notifications, but it seems to load a listing which is somewhat older.
Just to make sure I am seeing the same thing as you, can you verify this is what is happening for you. I had a new message waiting for me so I loaded that up. I then clicked back and saw that the notification button was still pink and showed me the same notification I had just clicked on. However, if I click "View Message" now, nothing will happen and the notification just sits there.

No. Just now, I had 4 messages.  I went to one of them (PM from Pietro G.), read it, responded.  I clicked on another one (PM from Paul M.), read it, responded.  I then canceled an earlier PM notification (another from Pietro G. in the same thread), then clicked on the notice for you message here.  At that point, I had a grey envelope and was on this screen.  Just clicked back and had 2 messages shown, but not the same 2 as before.  One may be the earlier Pietro G. message, the one I dismissed before coming here, the other is a message from Dylan S. from last night, dismissed earlier today: Now that I hit forward to get to this page again and write this post, I again have 2 messages showing, but not the 2 from the above picture, the two that I had on the prior page the first time I was on it: That's the kind of thing I see.

After posting that, I went back again and this is what I had: Returning forward again, I had this:

Doing it again, I got the first listing (with Dylan S.), and then the final one with Pietro and Paul.

Back and forth again, I got an empty envelop, then:

Another cycle got me Pietro and Paul, then: I'm just clicking back, checking, then clicking forward.
Interesting. Guess I have more investigation to do here.

That other thing is annoying too, so feel free to fix that while you're in there as well.   =D

Similar experiences here. I believe the action on my end is about the same as Aaron reports, but for me, the experience is largely noticed as the Number of Notifications in the pink box. Example storyline, There will be a Forum Thread that I've loaded before. Let's say I had 6 Notifications when I read that thread yesterday. Today I have 10 different Notifications.  I read 7 of them. Pink Notifications should say 3. I hit "Back" in browser and go to a Forum page, or a Post, that I read yesterday, maybe now I want to read a new post in that thread.  Notifications box will say 6 again, like it said yesterday, instead of 3 (the latest tally).  If I now hit REFRESH in browser, Notifications box will change to the current 3. My impression, it seems like Browser is cacheing the Notifications window, and does not reload that window on certain page loads until after Refresh (?).
