Dynamic lighting transparency

So i'm putting in some work with the dynamic lighting thanks to some tutorials (thank you gamers) but i'm having an issue with building lighting columns. I want players to be able to see the column, or at least the section facing them. Is there an option or method to allow this?

Jason, here are a couple of possible methods first. Try just putting a small line, small x, or small circle, in the middle of the column on the DL layer. Don't draw the DL circle all the way around the edges of the column, but instead make a bullseye in the middle of it. Is that effect sufficient? Alternately put a larger "X" that goes across the diameter of the column. Then the Players should be able to see 1 pie-shaped wedge of the column. Note: there is not currently an option for a "window" effect on DL, or a one-way DL effect, where you can see across visually but not move a token across it. There are suggestions on the Suggestions forum to add that kind of feature/effect, like this one: One-sided Dynamic Lighting suggestion, https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1242655/dynamic-...

I've seen someone using the DL inside the object to outline the walls then putting a light source inside it to illuminate it. This causes the shadows to show up behind the object but allows the object to be seen. If the block movement feature is used then they can't walk through the object also.

Brilliant!! I never would of thought of that. thanks
So is there a thread already about a preset Token mass option, something that would automatically make a token or map object block light and movement?

Stephen S. has many scripts that have dynamic lighting/movement barriers built-in. Check out the "Dungeon..." series https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/search/?keywords=&sortby=newest&type=all&genre=all&author=Stephen%20Shomo

This thread seems to coincide with a question that I wanted to ask and since OP's questions has been answered already, I would like to ask mine. Sorry if I come off as rude for not making a seperate thread altogether. Alright, I noticed on the supporter page that the image with dynamic lightning has some transparency to the Line of sight obsctructions on the trees. Is this a result of having multiple light sources or can I just set something where line of sight doesn't produce a jet black obstruction?

Hmm, that picture does seem a bit misleading (disclaimer: with the right setup you could likely create that effect with multiple light sources and tokens 'with sight' that the players control). The better representation is the short video further down the page which gives an accurate series of examples for dynamic lighting.
That's the GM view of dynamic lighting. That's why it shows the transparency instead of solid black.
