Dynamic Lighting "cave entrance"

Hey guys, very new to DMing on Roll20 and want to take advantage of the dynamic lightning to cast light from a cave entrance. Since it has to come from a token, can I keep that token on the GM layer and the players be able to see the light and not the token itself? Also, I'm confused as to how I can see what players will see with this tool, whenever I click "view as player" everything is black :( Any help?
Objects that cast light must be on the objects layer (possibly the map layer too). You can make a torch or fire token to place around. In some instances you will want an invisible token, you can leave an aura on it that only the DM can see so you know where it is at. Auras can also be used to color a light source, just make sure you have enabled the players to see the aura. You can see how a selected token sees by using CTR-L. Make sure the token has sight enabled. Also on the light source make sure you check "All players see light" be sure to check out the wiki page as well https://wiki.roll20.net/Dynamic_Lighting Happy gaming!
You can put objects on the Map, Token, or the Dynamic Lighting Layers. Anywhere but the GM Layer will work.

Probably easiest to put a tree or rock with some high level lighting, and just position it a few squares outside of the entrance.

Just use a transparent png square, drop it on the map layer and set your lighting. Players will always see black unless they have a token on the map that has the "Has Sight" option checked and there are light emitting tokens on the map or object layer.

I just add light tokens like this directly on the dynamic lighting layer. The token will not show, but any light it puts off can be seen.
