Water Supply

(Image supplied by Master of Design) DESCRIPTION: Scouts have discovered a viable source of fresh water for the Kingdom at a spring nearby. This will be a great place to fetch water but the area is overrun by wild vegetation and swarms of insects. Clear out the area and we will be able to use this as a valuable asset to build the kingdom. Sign Up On The VTT journal for this mission
SETUP: As Agela is walking through the middle of the settlement a man and woman dressed in adventuring gear come jogging up to her.  A bunch of small bumps can be seen all over the man.   How did it go?  Agela says to them.   We saw some small game, a few rabbits and squirrels  says the woman. And found a valley where we are sure more size-able creatures would roam if we had more time to wait the man says as he scratches at a few of the bumps.   Did you find any usable water though?  We need that more than food says Agela.   Water yes  says the woman, Usable, no  says the man too many mosquitos.  We found a beautiful spring, plenty of water, but as I was scooping up a big handful of the water I was overwhelmed with enough mosquitos to blot out the sun.   The woman speaks up there weren't THAT many, but enough that we aren't getting to that water any time soon....not without some netting and a bunch of fly squatters.   Agela nods to the pair, thanks for the information, head to my tent and you'll find an ointment that will help with the itching.  Let me know if it gets any worse. Agela turns her head and scans the crowd, apparently looking for someone.  As she locks eyes with you, she motions you over.   Any chance you could help with a little mosquito problem? "Mosquitos? I mean, who's afraid of mosquitos? Of course I'll help. Am I going alone, or are we gathering more people? If we're carrying any water back, we may even need a cart." Agela says, Just the 2 of you then?  Well...perhaps you'll be alright, you seem hearty enough.  If you run into anyone who isn't too busy, see if they will tag along.  And don't worry about a cart, just clear out those Mosquitos so we can get to the water.

"ahh wait up! sorry sorry, i awoke late this morning, and my new companion had a few....er....complaints. i will be accompanying you all as well" Kellen comes running down the road. (my internet connection si really upset with roll20 right now, survival of 7, i also had my NPC cast a delay poison on myself, since insects are so often poisonous. it'll only last 4 hours, so if were travelling farther than that it is irrelevant. had to wait for clem to approve the NPC before i could edit this in.)

Certainly, says Agela, feel free to stock up before you head out.  The scouts did report a swarm of mosquitos was about, so make sure you are equipped to handle them.  If you have any questions let me know, otherwise I'll leave you to it.
Kravi grabs her gear and runs to catch up.
(what all is for sale in town? just things that players have made? or are there NPC's with gear to buy? I would ask in the VTT but its kinda bonkers RN.)
Kravi mentions that Agela has things for sale.  And most items can be custom crafted for you if you ask around.  Not many shops are fully stocked yet.  Kravi wants to know what you are looking for

"i figure a swarmsuit might be useful if thats what were going up against. I havent seen one around town yet. If nothing else make sure to get an alchemist fire and a few torches. Maybe somebody has some vermin repellant?"  States kellen, rummaging through his floating backpack.
"well looks like this is the best im gonna find. ill have to make requests for things like this in the future, might stir up business for the town as well." Kellen closes up his bag and prepares to set off.
i got some tinderwigs with me, it may be uselful ready to go. 
As you are standing around discussing what you might need a young page comes jogging up carrying a bag.   'scuse me, 're you the group headed to the 'squitos?   After the group indicates they are he hands over the bag  Lady Agela thought yall could be using a little extre help, so she rustled up a few things and tossed em in the bag.  Hope it helps, good luck yall.   And with that the young man turns and jogs back to where he came from.  Looking inside the bag you find 2-Anti-plague Toxins 1-Vermin repellent 4-Alchemist fires a quickly scrawly note: Sorry I couldn't find more on such a short notice, we are still trying to stock our supplies of these things. Feeling a little more prepared the group gathers their things and heads off in the direction indicated by the scouts.  The group almost gets turned around a time or 2 but each time Charles is able to recall the exact words of the scouts and therefore points the group in the direction.  Soon they arrive at a big clearing on the other side of the clearing they can see a rock outcrop with what appears to be a small pool of water.
Dian take a quick look around to see how many mosquitos are they. Perception:nature 1

"mind if i try to sneak around the side for a better view?"  asks kellen as he looks around as well. (OOC perception of 18, and a stealth of 17 if the others send me to scout the sides, rolls were bad. did the travel take more than 4 hours?)
You notice a patch of flowers nearby that that have a lot of vibrant purples and yellows and almost seem to glisten in the noon-day sun.  As you look a little closer you see the flowers are each coated in a strange almost waxy film.  ((Knowledge: Nature)) // You are well within the 4 hours.
i point the flowers out to the other, as my knowledge of nature is...er....lacking
"I don't mind at all. Who has that bag from Agela?" Charles asks hoping to grab something from just in case.

"that's a good point, everyone should have an alchemist fire, and two of you should get the anti-toxins. Anyways, someone take a look at these, might be useful."  Kellen points towards the waxy colorful flowers  (OOC Kellen rolled an 18 knowledge nature which maxes out at a 10 since he doesnt have any points in it, if nothing comes of it he begins skirting the edge of the clearing, looking for the insects we were warned about)

As Kellen approaches the water an angry swarm of mosquito's appears and moves towards him. //Initiative time:  Combat will start Slot 1 tomorrow Edit:  Actually, you can go ahead and do your first turns.  I'll take the mosquitos turn in the morning and then we'll be into slot 2: 9-5 EST

"That sure is a lot of bugs..." Charles looks on, somewhat stunned at the amount of mosquitoes, as he lights a torch and raises it in his left hand. (Oh, right, take my turn too :p) // 10.02 for initiative

GM Wed Slot 1 The Mosquito's start buzzing wildly as they notice a creature approaching their area. ((OOC: Note that it's just one swarm, not 4 small ones.))
GM Wed Slot 2 The Mosquito's buzz around the water, seeming to calm down a little bit. Player's Turn Slot 3
"It looks like they are protective of the water. Must be where their nest or whatever is, and they're just protecting it?" Charles slowly approaches the water, torch held out before him.

(ooc i cant get into the vtt atm Ian can you move me and roll for damage?) Armand moves up to with in range and casts Acid Dart (1d6+1 damage) on the swarm trying to thin the numbers.
Kellen lights another torch, and hope the bug spray works. He moves to back-up charles.
Armand moves up and shoots an Acid Dart at the mosiquitos and appears to anger the swarm as it surges over him.  The swarm buzzes in Armands eyes and makes it hard to see, they bite him in a hundred places drawing blood. //Armand will need to make a DC 13 Fort save vs Disease, will also take an extra 1d6  bleed damage on his turn and must make a DC 13 Fort save if he tries to cast while in the swarm due to the Distraction.   Player Turn: Thursday Slot 1
//  OOC  Ian may have covered this but mosquitoes are diminutive .. spells that target a single creature (such as acid dart) deal no damage to the swarm because the spell targets a single target (unfortunately)
Kellen moves towards the swarm and flails his torch around, hittings as many mosquitos as possible. (ooc, kellen rolled a total 20 to hit, and 3 fire damage from the torch)
((ooc: Don't forget, you guys have alchemist fires you can use, standard action to retrieve, standard action to throw and it deals double damage to the swarm))
(my fear was that if we all use them the splash damage + mosquitos could drop armand)
Not happy with fire waving at them the bugs retreat closer to their nest. Players post Thursday: Slot 3
"Follow them to their nest and burn it!" Charles shouts as he continues moving forward, waving the torch at the bugs to try and push them back until he finds the nest.
"STUPID BUGS"  Armand then casts sanctuary so they cant attack him anymore  
Kravi hates stupid bugs.  Kravi glad her armour makes her impervious to stupid bugs.  Kravi attacks stupid bugs with 2 torches (ooc 4 damage+2 fire damage)
Kellen decides to try one of the alchemist fires. He draws and chucks it at the back of the swarm, trying not to hurt kravi. (are the HP totals accurate? they keep moving around for me) ((OOC Kellen rolled an 18 which means 24 with a ranged attack, a hit. I rolled a six and a four for a total of 10 damage))
the swarm surges over kravi, biting him in many places, armand starts to bleed out from all the wounds //6 damage to kravi, I need a fort save.  4 damage to armand and I need a fort save from him as well
Kellen takes a step forward and swings both torches at the swarm, burning away a few more.  (OOC, Kellen hit a 16 and a 19 with the torches dealing 1 and 3 damage, i had kirby take the damage off since the VTT was bugging out after my rolls)
The swarm continues to bite at Kravi, dropping her to the ground.  Armand continues to stare at the scene, stunned by whats going on as the wounds made by the creates continues to bleed. //bleed plus another round of swarm for 14 more damage on Kravi and she is unconsious but not dead.   Armand takes 3 more bleed damage...better do something about that healer.  Swarm is almost dead, the splash damage from an alchemist fire would do it, another hit with a torch, a well placed pebble, You can do this!!

Kellen swipes once more at the swarm, burning away the last few insects, and then runs towards kravi. (OOC, do we have a healer? if not , those two might die if they dont have potions. Kellen hit with a 21, and did the last 2 damage (i had clem finish the swarm so people could see correctly))
