Fog of war | Reveal free hand tool

Hi Guys, im relatively new to roll20 and I started to create my own dungeons for the "dungeonslayer" fantasy setup. Im creating a cave right now, and I would really appreciate if I could reveal with freehand, lasso or whatever tool to reveal nature environments. I know there is dynamic lightning but I dont want to use this and just want to work with the fog of war reveal thing. I searched in this forum and found a thread 3 years old, in which you talked about this. 1. Is there a solution in work or do u want the users to pay for dynamic lightning and extra perks? This isnt a blame or something I just want to know why there is no option for this. 2. And another thing... If I reveal an area and than hide it again, there are lines around the rectangle that I revealed that the players can see. What can I do about that, without to reset the fog entirely? Greetings, Michael

Hello Michael and what you want done (if I understand you correctly) is totally do able with the  fog of war . The polygon line is the closest you have to freehand. You just use it to outline what you want to reveal if it is something specific otherwise you would use the reveal area to drag and reveal for large areas. As for rehiding an area there is a hide areas button that allow you to drag over the area (I always over drag to cover all the revealed) to hide everything.
thank you... I must be blind or something :/ But for the rehiding: I also do this like you and over drag to be save that I hide every pixel again.  But try this: 1. Create an empty page and enable fog of war. 2. Hide a few space with the rectangle reveal area button 3. now switch to player sight and u will see the rectangle areas that u hided, cause u see the outer border or margins. I can show u a picture   You can only get these margins away if u hit the "reset the fog" button

That sounds and looks like something that needs to be addressed in the bug and technical issue forum.
Ok, should I post a new thread there, or do u take care of that?

Hey Parad0x, Sorry you're having this issue. I tried this myself and was not able to reproduce the issue. I turned on Fog of War, I showed and hid a bunch of overlapping areas and viewed as a player and it was all smooth black for me, so I have a few questions: Are my reproduction steps "right"? Second, have you confirmed that actual players can see these pixel outlines or are you only seeing it when you "Re-Join as Player"? Third, do these pixels still exist when you refresh the page? What I'm trying to figure out is if it's just a weird rendering thing on your system, or if there is an issue on our end.

Hi Phil, first of all, thank you for your message. Your reproduction steps are right as it seems. Players can see it definitely, we tried it out right now. Im trying to be exact as i can and write down all my steps. 1. My page settings: - Fog of war enabled - I changed the scale to meters but the other things are standard values 2. Im using the latest chrome browser and we also tried firefox 3. Than start with the "hide area button" (I know its already fogged but try to hide a few areas in the "room") 3. Switch to player view and zoom in and out with alt+mousewheel a few times. 4. look in the dark :) and u will se the margins from ur hide area zones that u used in step 3. 5. If u hit the "reset the fog" button all is dark again and all lines and margins are gone. refresh the page didnt fix it either.  I can also make a video and upload it on youtube or something if u still cant reproduce it. But these lines or margins or whatever u wanna call them are there and we can reproduce it on different systems.

First of all, sorry for the really late reply, I missed the reply message. With your new list of steps, I was finally able to reproduce the error. It has something to do, specifically, with the zooming in and out after you add these additional "layers" of fog. Something about scaling them with the map is creating artifacts around the outside. Thank you for pointing this out and explaining it a second time, I will go ahead and add it to our bug list and we will fix it when we can.
Hey Phil, no problem. I mean its not that much of a bug and my main problem was that I couldnt find the polygon reveal. Nonetheless, thank you very much for your reply.
