GuloxSynovia at the Rusty Dragon, 10 PM, 12th of Kuthona

The inn has become quite now, save for the party and a few other patrons. Gulo sits rigidly on his stool, questioning Synovia "So a civilian has the right to deny a defender of their town if they so choose? Never mind the fact that the least they could do is provide supplies to those who defend them!" He let's out a sigh "It makes no sense to me Synovia."
"Gulo, I am ashamed to say that I once, not to long ago, the same prejudice that the stable owner does. I have since learn that there is equal parts of good and bad in all  reasoning beings. So I have adopted the prepare for the worst , but hope for the best attitude. The citizens of sandpoint are free to serve or not serve whomever they please. I am sorry, I should have warned you about him. In the future if you need anything from him go thru Hemlock or the Mayor or even Miro. I see that you are trying to temper your Military instincts. You are doing quite well."
"Your words are kind Synovia, if not false." he takes out his holy symbol, a bulls head wrapped in flames, tracing his fingers over it "I have been here for nearly a month Synovia, and I am still an outsider. I have been selfish, trying to turn Sandpoint into something it's not because I cannot change, I can make soldier, not people, and that is not what your village needs."
" In these trying times, Gulo, I fear we may need both. Sandpoint was and still is unprepared to deal with the evil that has targeted it. Are guard is trained as more of a policing force than a military one. I believe we need a more military view. The trick for you, I believe is to present the needed skills in a more civilian way."
"If only it we're that easy, perhaps it would be better it I explained." he looks down at his pendent, grasping it tighter in his hand "Hobgoblins are not as faceted as humans or goblins, from the moment we are born our role in life is decided, mine was a soldier, even for those who were not everyone and everything was tied to army. My earliest memory was beating another hob to death for a change to become a jager, being flogged by my CO when I disobeyed, and being forged into a deadly soldier, setting outposts ablaze with catapults and gunning down elves and men. This was my life for 18 years, and when I joined with the Lastwall my life was no different. Elves and humans became orcs, that was 8 years of my life. Until these past few months there had not been a time in my life where I have not been fighting for my life in one of the most war torn places in the world, that world made sense to me, but this?" he looks up at Synovia, his grip on his pendent drawing blood, his face stony, betraying nothing "I will be honest Synovia, your village needs a gentler hand then mine, for even harsh as Grady finds me I am holding back. I am a hobgoblin, and no matter what your brother says people do not change who they truly are." Gulo let's out a sigh, taking notice of the blood "Shite! I aplogize to your mother Synovia, I will clean it up post haste!" he says, wiping the blood away with an old rag.
Synovia reaches her hand out to him and touches his arm and says "I have seen people change, some take longer than others, but if they truly wish, anyone can change. I do have an idea that might help you. Why don't you train me some of these skills along with Hemlock and then we can train the others. As far as the Goblin Squad, your methods are most likely what they are used to, however, we are also trying to temper their naturally chaotic tendencies. I would propose that instead of trying to merge both we have 2 separate training sessions. One headed by you the other by Grady."

"This is not a bad idea Synovia, Balor has chosen well in his successor." Gulo then glances over at Synovia's hand, his eyes narrowing "Your signaling me ya, how many are there in the bar?" he ducks below the table, hand on his pistol "Just tell me where they are Synovia and I will send them to Hell!"
Syn laughs "No, Gulo, there are no enemies. It is just a way of showing friendship and understanding."
"Oh." he pokes his head out from below, resetting his stool "Then what are your signals, I would like to know as to not make a misttake like that again."
"Well, If I have time to warn it is usually a head gesture followed by"Hey, over there." However, the usual gesture is me plunging my blade into something."
Gulo stares blankly at Synovia, his eye twitching in anger before taking a deep breath, muttering in goblin " She is young, you we're the same do not forget." he turns his attention back to Synovia "It would be better to have a discreet non verbal message for our allies to begin combat, it gives us a chance to take the enemy off balance. Your method is fine for barbaians and petty bandits, but I can promise you it would most certanly get you killed against a seasoned veteran."
Synovia smiles broadly "See you're already changing, You didn't just punch me in the face." She takes a moment then continues "We usually use a spell that allows for us all to send messages telepathically, however, I have been thinking what would happen if Miro were not around. It would be wise to develop a plan B."
Gulo nods, face as stony as ever "You learn quickly, a few simple gestures. For exsample." he says grabbing Synovia's hand "If we we're in a tense situation between a mercanary group, combat has not started yet, so this-" he digs deep into her hand with his index finger "Would be a signal to begin the attack, perferrably we have a stradigy in place for such an occasion." he returns his hand to his side "Such a signal could be done as decreetly as handing you piece of paper, thou I wounder of it effectiveness against more trained soldiers."
"It is definatly something to work out, but just one question, why would we be holding hands while facing down mercaneries?"

"A good point, say you "dropped" you sword, I have the opportunity to return it to you while at the same time signalling to you it is time to attack." he thinks for a moment, scratching his chin "This seems like something Vrinnrathus would be able to comment on, being a ranger I am sure he has a few techniques of his own."
"Possibly, but you'll have to convince him there is something it for him."

"Ja, elves are very paranoid when it comes to what they know, great must have been the thief who stole their magic." he cuckles dryly "Say what you will about my people, but we are rarely plagued by the infighting of other races."
" I don't know about all that, but I do know Vrinn and he rarely does anything without an angle."
"Really? Perhapse I should get to know Vrinnrathus better, if I am going to be on the same operation as him."
"Good luck with that!"
Gulo nods "Thank you Synovia, I can only hope Vrinnathus is as amenible." and with that he get's up, walking towards Vrinn.
