As of the time of this writing I sit safely back in Haven, but again find myself advising caution onto anyone who may travel to this newfound land. Our expedition proved successful, but we lost a member of our party, and easily could have lost more. The island once again proved that it is not to be trifled lightly with, and the now resting dead took no reserve in their hunger for flesh and life. As per standard I shall begin this report with an account of the travel to Camp Vedinia. Overall the trip was uneventful save for our first night on the ocean. As we passed near Tomb Isle we were approached by another ship off in the distance. The captain informed us that rebels have been extorting any free ships who cross this area for gold. Upon hearing this my companion Raven recommended to travel without light, and even used a torched barrel to help lure the rebels away. This seemed successful, and the rest of our trip went without trouble. Upon our arrival at the camp Knight-Captain Magyar greeted us, and warned me in particular of the dangers of The Fane of Imac. I will award the captain credit due in his honorable attempt to care for my safety, but alas I had duties to fulfill as a member of the imperial family. I left the man a pardon for any harm that happened to me at Imac's temple before I took to leading our group upriver to begin our mission. The trip northward was not as treacherous as it had been on our last journey, but a pair of giant snakes still tried to make a snack out of our smaller halfling compatriots. In response my companions Von and Gabriella made short work of one snake, and I used my dweamor to scare off the other. With the snakes gone we decided to hurry on with the rest of our journey northward. Sure enough we arrived at the fane without any further troubles. As we approached the temple we once again noticed the unusual lack of wildlife around it. The entrance seemed to be drenched in darkness with no sunlight pouring through it, and to the right of the doorway sat a set of runes. A translation of these runes can be found in our reference documents. The entrance to the temple was roughly six feet in height, and the overhead ceiling inside stood at about eight feet or so. While the tiefling Von had to duck his way through the doorway the rest of our small group made our way into the main temple entrance without trouble. The main entryway was quite large, but also quite old. The floor was littered with crumbling rocks, and mossy plants making it difficult to get around easily. At the top of this T shaped room sat a statue, a pool, and two sets of stairs leading to closed stone doors. The statue was of what looked to be a brawny dwarf holding a sword in one hand, and shield in the other. The pool in front of that proved to be full of spoiled water with various gold, silver, and gems covering its bottom. Finally the two stone doors proved to be locked. While at the time the two doors showed us difficulty, the statue and pool both held more then we could see from a distance. At the base of the statue we found an inscription which is again included and translated in the reference documents. The pool on the other hand was hiding an undead. At Raven's suggestion my companion Cain poured holy water into the liquid, and sure enough a spectre came screaming out from inside of it. This creature arose in a maelstrom of dark looking energy in the faint shape of a humanoid. From its very essence leaked an ominous and foul odor of death. Without a doubt every person in the temple was now risking their life. Von, and Cain immediately took to holding the creature at bay while the rest of us pelted it with might and magic from a distance. While all of us contributed I do have to give Raven credit for felling the creature with an arrow through the chest. As it died it turned to dust, and before long we were continuing our trek through this foul temple. With no way to open the doors sitting atop the stairs we decided our next course of action would be to turn to the leftward hallway of this T shaped room. Following this hallway lead to two more statues that looked similar to the first, save for them being covered in robes. It was between these two statues my companion Von found a lever hidden in the walls. After some clever testing we found that this switch was one of two required to open the stone doors back in the entryway. With that information upon us we decided to investigate the leftward door that also sat the end of the left hallway. This room also proved to be T shaped, though with us coming in to the right of the T, and the base of it pointing back towards the entryway. At the left side of the T directly across from the open door sat another robed statue, and at the base of the T we encountered our first group of shadows. These evil creatures appeared in their never ending quest to hunt the souls of all who ventured their halls. Even in open daylight they found a way to make darkness, and we quickly took to destroying them before they could do the same to us. I immediately took to casting a dweamor of light upon them, and my companions took to protecting me from their embrace. All of them stepped up, and while Raven shielded me from their blows Von and Isabella killed off two of the shadows. The last was undone by Sir Cain who used a spell that mimicked the light of the sun in order to draw it out from hiding. Finally with the shadows gone we searched the 3 rooms that sat scattered on the base of the T. All of the rooms didn't seem to have much to them except for a skeleton with a faintly magic ring, and an old barrel of alcohol. Unfortunately the alcohol was too old to drink, but at the same time the liquid was quite flammable. With that discovery we then moved back in order to explore the hallway that lurked to the right of the entryway. On our way back over the expedition showed our effectiveness in fighting off these shadows as an ever larger number of them began to attack our small group. In spite of their approach we made our way back to the entryway, and onward to the rightward passage. This hallway mirrored the leftward one in every respect save for the contents of the rooms. Inside we found both a marked flagstone, and locked chest. With no key for the chest, and no locksmith on the island our expedition made a collaborative decision to pry it open for its contents. Unfortunately it was dangerously trapped and exploded into a bout of fire. Our company somehow survived the onslaught of flames, but the contents of the chest did not. The flagstone however held a symbol of a tower on its back side. I've included an etching of it in the reference documents. While I am not sure who the sigil belongs to maybe someone in Haven wiser than myself will be able to decipher it. With that task complete our group made the decision to head back to Camp Vedinia for the night. We had injured companions, and needed to rest. Gathering up our group we made our way back to the river where we made a small raft in order to sail the barrels of flammable liquid back to camp. On our way back downriver we didn't actually encounter any danger ourselves, but clearly saw the signs of what could have been. We saw both a large group of giant crocodiles, and another group of giant crabs on the riverside during our journey down. Without a doubt either encounter could have been taxing on our already troubled resources. Regardless we made our way back to camp, and rested for the night. The night was uneventful with nothing of importance taking place. Similarly our return trip to the Fane of Imac also went without any trouble. As such we arrived back at the temple fresh and full of high spirits. Yet the temple itself seemed to match us with quite a few spirits of its own. We immediately took to opening the two stone doors that remained at the top of the entry room. After pulling the switches a large set of shadows immediately sprung forth before eating away at my companions. Luckily though Cain's daylight spell seemed to keep them at least somewhat at bay. With that spell, and all of our group's combined efforts we quickly took to exterminating them. Before long we were ready to find what was hidden behind the two stone doors. Sadly aside from 3 statues all we found were two more sets of stairs. The 3 statues were notably all different from each other though. They all appeared to be the same figure as in the entry room, yet they almost told a story on their own. The first on the left was the figure with a tool, the second was the figure with a sword, and the final was the figure was a gaping hole in his chest. Curiously we continued on the staircase that was to our left. The stairs led us up to the second floor of the fane. This floor was in a U shape. At the top of the U sat the two staircases, at its base sat a shrine with a door, and littering its sides were various doors to single rooms. Most of these rooms were empty aside from more restless spirits, but three of them are worth note to this report. One contained various minor avatars, another contained 3 sarcophagi, and the third was where one our six met her fate. Upon opening one of the doors a spectre greeted us with its foul presence. Our companion Isabella destroyed the foul creature with one great burst of holy fire as it attacked. Seemingly pleased with her feat of strength she walked straight into the room only to be ambushed by a second spirit. This spectre came out of the floor and wrapped its vile ethereal hands around the poor halfling's mouth. Before long all life drained from her face, and in an instant it was clear she lay dead. She fought with valor, but alas caution often proves to be its better part. To make matters worse her sister Gabriella was also present in the expedition. I still feel bad for the poor girl, but in the middle of such a place we had barely a moment of respite before we had to pick up our feet and continue onward. Cleaning the tears from many cheeks we finished clearing the rooms, and then made our way to the location of what seemed to be our final opponent. Even as we approached this deadly shrine all of us present could feel its unholy presence beaming from behind the door. After making our way passed a few traps that protected the shrine we opened the door only to see a wraith present in a cloud of dark miasma. It stood atop a sarcophagus seemingly feeding off the life force of the avatar we would later identify as Imac. This foul evil spirit immediately turned to our small company, and let out a howling scream before attacking. With furry in our hearts from our fallen comrade the group us combined managed to cleanse the temple of its presence. Notably Cain took the final blow swinging his hammer in a fashion I do not expect to ever see again. With the wraith vanquished we finally took steps into the final room of this temple. Approaching the avatar we took the lid off of its coffin in order to catch a glimpse of its fate. Sure enough it was a bronze skinned dwarf with a gaping hole in the middle of its chest. Sitting in the middle of the hole was a light blue ethereal heart still beating some sense of life into this long gone hero. We had found an avatar in the fane; there could be no doubt of this. Our companion Cain had the honor of contacting the avatar, and managed to discover the secret to its race's language. We used that knowledge to acquire the translations included in the reference document. With that our task was done, and we left the temple only to have a great door shut behind us. On the door sat a warning to all thieves so I might suggest any future expeditions exercise extraordinary caution before attempting to enter the Fane of Imac. Other Notes - I do not know how powerful this avatar Imac is nor any of the lesser avatars that we found inside this temple. My companion Raven of The Fellowship of the Unicorn mentioned in his expertise that he did not think the avatar was very powerful, and would not be worth retrieving. I have no expertise myself so it might be worth sending a proper priest to make a more accurate assessment before spending the coin to retrieve this avatar in earnest. Regardless gathering avatars is a matter of great importance for all citizens of the empire, and any found should be reported properly and promptly. - The plaque underneath the statue in the entryway speaks of Imac before he became one of the martyrs. I'm unsure of these creatures' traditions, but if the other "martyrs" are similar to Imac then further expedition of Khulican would prove to be most valuable to the empire. After all if there are more avatars on the island some of them could prove worth retrieving for the empire's greater glory. List of Accompaniment Below you will find a list of those who accompanied me on my journey to the Fane of Imac. The list is in no particular order as all members of this expedition proved they were willing to throw down their lives for a greater cause. Indeed one did. - Von - Cain - Raven, also known as Elias - Gabriella - Isabella, sadly deceased during the expedition.
