Opening the Window for Journals of March 7 session starting Spring adventures! The party is now reaching the outskirts of Portlandio, traveling the muddy roads back to your original home-base town during snow-melt at the conclusion of Winter Sessions maps. You met the Swanmay shapechanger at the icy river, healed up at Stone Church beyond Bridge #3, received reward from Avalyne Lifegiver and Avol Winterhoss, and finished (for now) adventures on the snow-covered trek leading to the 3 bridges. The Illusive Manager (as Co-GM) contributed his First Encounter, a fallen knight and his monster-herders who held-captive a Frost Giant (who the party freed and dialoged). Next Session: The party, now heralded as The Company Of the Spear, is back in muddy Portlandio. Re-unite with the Challengers Of Destiny (more experienced PC party) at Swarg-Inn The Money Pit The Giant's Beard. World-building gameplay in which every Player can add appropriate bits to the town. Assign your monster allies and try to control-corral them into decent behavior. Check on any other building / tactics / defense plans you're doing or advising to Portlandio town, such as a town wall. Lots of possible NPC's to meet, interview, negotiate. Investigation could be important while you're here! Think strongly of your Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Scooby Doo, Sherlock Holmes, Be a bit of a sleuth look around, ask around, gather information while you are in town. You have a lot of open leads in the game, if you think about it, and can get more info. Think of people & places to go & ask questions. What questions? DM doesn't even know what you might ask.. we will roleplay it out! What people to interview who might know something about anything? I anticipate the PC's will want interview any-all known NPC's who are connected to any plots or quests or politics or dangers, As well as random NPC strangers even if I have to make up their answer & personality on the spot. So let's just have fun and try to Roleplay in town! Update to the latest politics, movers & shakers in the new springtime Muddy Portlandio. Koryon Military Generals? Yi Bang, Yi Ko, Che Won.. Lord Harlepen's estate? Leads to Ota Sura? Horukh? Blacksmith? Herbalist Mave? Kryikh at the Magic tower? Typhoon dragon? Cleanup efforts? Those earth elemental forces on the high cliffs? The Challengers of Destiny and all your original PC's and XPC's who might be around. Just to name a few, there are probably many others. Post any ideas & game discussion here, worldbuilding, book-keeping, Q&A, + journals.
Hey Gold, pursuant to Assign your monster allies and try to control-corral them into decent behavior. I'd like it if we can put together a list this weekend, of who has moved to Portlandio post-typhoon, from the "monster" community as well as who is available for Sigma to recruit from the nearby hillcountry. This could include some real surprises depending upon what got blown in by such a major storm. Giant Sea Eagles going "What are we doing on THIS continent now?" Centaurs yelling "My cabbages!"

NEW MUSIC on our Jukebox sung by Daniela Andrade Playlist is loaded in-game. Listen out-of-game on my Soundcloud playlist, https://soundcloud.com/dgold/sets/roll20-sweet-songs This serves as the Theme music for the next session. Not background music for during-play, but intro & outro acoustic songs. It's a really haunting singer doing some interesting, introspective words, mostly cover songs with her spin on them, also a couple of ethereal new original songs in the mix. It's kind of conveying a DM psychological pastiche for Larry for Horukh the Priest PC from Challengers Of Destiny. But I'd like if all Players can listen along, at least in-parts, and imagine the mood set by the songs. As you will be meeting Horukh again in town after he regains his freedom. It's about 30 minutes, 7 songs: Strange And Beautiful Crave You (Dripping In Gold) River Of Gold Dark Passenger Crazy Smells Like Teen Spirit Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) Yes, I did just incorporate Nirvana and Gnarls Barkley covers into the game, among others. If you recognize the songs, Andrade's version will probably still be a pleasant surprise, since she makes the songs her own way. Lyrics* involves primarily the PC called Horukh The Silver and the inquisition he has been undergoing at a secret black-site, and the Challengers of Destiny original party, with incorporated references/perspectives/clues involving the Koryon generals, the Airbender lady, the Typhoon dragon, the Pan Lung dragon that was killed, the Firebender lady riding the fake Ki-Rin, the Medusa lady and her Gorgon-herding husband, and the cowled monks from the Greek church who are actually kenku zealots in disguise. It's basically, largely the soundtrack of sounds and thoughts faced by our protagonist Horukh over the past weeks under secret arrest. The songs are less about The Company of the Broken Spear, but more represent what you are walking into when you arrive back to Muddy Portlandio and the scenario everyone there has been facing. * I mean obviously, the lyrics completely twisted & transposed to Homebrew World. Give it a listen. See if you're feeling it. Guys, it's kind of dark introspective songs (with a possible reading involving Homebrew World Adventuring), this is because Horukh was undergoing a trial by agents of a demon (the kenku zealots dressed up as cowled monks of the ruined Greek church). It has a psychological element. The airbender lady, firebender lady, and the Koryon generals plotline is also intertwined with the interrogation of Horukh and the subject-matter perspective in some of these songs. Larry -- I'm working on some additional stats and info for you on Horukh 2.0 to go along with everything we've already discussed on the side this past month. The mixtape here is my listening while I'm working on my part of this.
See guys? Even when he's perpetrating evil and horror upon us, Gold's just too good to us. :)

Initially I was going to write a whole journal covering our recent encounter. But since I'm sick and rather uninspired... I'll give you a fitting meme that sums things up. To paraphrase Sir Monty of Python: "I blow my nose at you, you silly kniggit! *blows raspberry* Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberris! Now go away... Or I will taunt you a second time!" Seriously F that guy...
LOL :) hope you feel better!

I envision this every-time Sigma meets a new monster... And damn you sir... Damn you to heck... I've found myself saying "Snush" several times this week... WTB brain bleech. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ0s0KUUpxo Yep that pretty much sums it up.

Closing the window for Journals of March 7 session. Thank you Players! Bonus Journal XP was awarded & should be recorded for Solid's photo-chop memes, and Larry's hand-made original character-art of Snush, Sigma and Furnace . It was +620 XP each, make sure that made it onto your Bio tab in-game. Opening the Window for Journals of March 14 entering Muddy Portlandio! The party arrived, dirty and tired, at Swarg-Inn The Giant's Beard The Money Pit, on the swamp-smelling-side of Southeast Portlandio, which can now best be called Muddy Portlandio. The party's inn is functionally the "only pizza place still open" in this part of town, and serves many of the helpers and the helpless. Cylara got the best bath of anyone, treated on their first visit to the city. Everyone is still removing sludge from the typhoon-attack flooding, and the recent snowmelt. Many evacuees still live in 4 camps. 1 of 3 famous Koryon Generals, the one named Yi-Ko has been making a formal "show" of typhoon cleanup, sending his troops to help around town, growing his popular reputation. Horukh (PC from the original Challengers Of Destiny) who had been leading the cleanup-recovery efforts has been silently absent, unexpectedly M.I.A. for the last few weeks in game-timeline. An alien dinosaur-man (Saurial Bladeback Priest of Pelor) named Dorsel was briefly met at the docks, and soon became an XPC-NPC ally of the party. Next week: Continuing playing in-town D&D More Roleplaying! Welcoming some new Players to try our game, More NPC's to interview More mysteries to investigate More politics to engage Something to fight?? Naahhh there's nothing dangerous in Portlandio at this season. Or is there. And there's something about Horukh The Silver, a famous Good PC... ? Where has he gone. Let's go mudding on Monday!
Here is a revised map of Portlandio to show where the new Boardwalks have been built! These are vee-slotted beam-and-board construction, not made to last, but they allow the populace to move from dryer parts of the sundered city through the muddiest parts. Stairs or ramps are placed anywhere they're needed, and aren't shown at this scale. There are platforms for turning wagons around and so on. Most have become new marketplaces. Pilings jut up between 8 to 12 feet above the walkway height. Many people have built up shop stalls against the pilings, at boardwalk level. The pilings have simple oil streetlamps. Also, next to the cliff beacon is the area that Sigma has claimed as Sigma's Monster Territory. I don't have any city walls and defenses marked yet. I figure the only really secure part is the Militarized City Gate right now!

Gold & Larry, I drew in some proposed walls, fortifications, and new roadways for Portlandio. Large Squares - Main Keep & Associated government facilities Rectangles - Gatehouses Large Circles - Major towers Small Circles - Minor towers Dashed Blue Line - Harbor chain Random Thoughts to be expanded on in game: The Keep would sit on Beacon Hill. It would be the heart of Portlandio's government. Tower Major Towers overlooking the harbor are connected to each other and the keep. A harbor chain would be submerged but could be raised to block the entrance. Gatehouses are armed entry points & contain import/export controls. Each tower is a fortress unto itself. Guards stationed there would patrol/watch their length of wall. Major towers would double as city garrisons & major armories. Nearby forests will have to be cleared. New areas would be converted into farmland. Timber would feed construction effort & support new growth. Steps of Construction: Major gatehouses Foundations for major towers Foundations for small towers Adjoining segments of wall Major towers completed Keep started Minor towers completed Keep finished I estimate the whole project will take over a decade+ of continuous work. Time could be shortened by using specialized labor (dwarves/giants/etc) & any form magical assistance. Local labor force is probably unable to meet construction needs. Will need to grow the population. Projected cost: Multi-millions worth of GP.
I suggest we find ourselves some viable land and build one of these...

Larry D. said: "You need to build more pylons." "You must construct additional pylons"* :D SC2 fan here lol ------------------------ GOLD HERE: DM requisitioned this post, to make a break between Journal weeks. Closing window for Journals of March 14 session. Bonus Journal XP should be noted for Larry and Solid. Opening Window for Journals of March 21 session: Meeting People The party, now returned to Muddy Portlandio, is gathered in their Tavern, "Swarg-Inn, The Giant's Beard: The Money Pit". Many new customers frequent the business. Some are potentially new PC's to recruit as party members. Next Week: The party, replete with new members, goes on an important adventure: a cohesive quest, to protect the town of Portlandio, find out clues about orc armies & the growing arsenal of Rock Orcs. unify the party, to integrate new PC's, explore our abilities, express the characters, investigate the triangle of 3 Koryon Generals, their motives, their alliances: Yi Ko --- who seems to hold sway and power in Portlandio proper at this time, Che Won --- who is under suspicion of forming treasonous side-alliances with Bullywug army, and Yi Bang ---- who is said to be away to the North fighting against Orcs in the war. And compare against your notes on Lord Harlepen, getting clues towards solving a long-term mystery in this campaign. Where is the party's important PC leader and ally, Count Horukh The Silver? (the missing Bird-Man-Priest). Integrate the new PC's with a single-session scenario that can be resolved, while also advancing party knowledge of long-term homebrew world mysteries!

Celandine, after some contemplating decides to leave the city and head to the nearest green spot where there is a tree and sit down and write down his thoughts. Celandines Journal entry 1 Portlandia - I have never in my last 100 years stumbled upon anything this ludacris. It stinks, it's muddy and generally not aesthetically pleasing. My eyes and ears hurt from all these sensory experiences. I feel that I must write down my frustration about this place and it's inhabitants. I will start with the first establishment, if you can call it that, that served food and drink, again if you can call it that. I must admit I cannot even remember the name. I would have never thought that I would happen upon a lager collection of sapient, or at least somewhat sapient, humaniods. The first being or beast was a Minotaur, didn't get a name or anything, but he kept flexing his muscles. I sincerely doubt if there is any intelligence within his head, but then again the elven magic-user seemed to indicate that he was her servant, that would explain quite a lot. Cylara the elven magic-user, seemed to be the most level headed of the people here, and atleast an elf. Yet she made the famed elven aloofness blow out of all proportion. After my conversation with Cylara I must indeed admit that I understand why most other sapient beings find elves aloof, and still have no idea what she was blabbering on about, other than subjugating a minotaur to her will. The establishment had of course the standard grumpy dwarf, that was insulting my senses and seem to dislike superior races. Maybe next time I should bring him a box, so he can look over the counter in his own inn-like establishment. The human knight sitting and acting all not interested, was looking at me funny. I will have to point out to him, that I am only interested in females of his species, and only when I am intoxicated beyond belief. The gnome rogue seems like a being that I have to keep my eye on, would not like to have my underwear stolen, because as far as I know, that is what all gnomes do. Now to the cream of the crop; the human owner. Swargen now I have never - I mean ever happend upon a semi-intelligent human being this indecisive, he offered me food and drink, which was a generous gesture, which I appreciate, but when trying to repay my debt I walked around with mountain of meat for hours, while he was shouting and whistling for a dog and carrying around a statue of a shark. OF A SHARK?! I miss the enclave, I miss Liara, her soft skin and wonderful laugh. But if I am to see her again and gain her fathers favor I must prove myself, even with these unlikely, deviant, yet potential allies. (Don't be to hard on Celandine, he doesn't know any better yet xD)
Ser, way to go with the Journal! Great job! Also, Solid.... Snush! Snush snush snush. (before you get too annoyed with me, remember... dwarven miners domesticate aurmvoraxes because they can sniff out veins of gold)
Thoughts of a Barbarian After weeks of exhaustive traveling, Azur has finally reached Portlandio , thought it was not exactly what he had figured it to be. There were no great walls of stone as tall as the sky, there were no rich, luscious fields and there were no huge crowds filling the air with empty words... instead, he found a lot of mud, run down buildings and a very distinctive smell of wet dog. Overall, it was pretty much like home , he thought to himself! Though he was glad he found place not entirely alien to him, Azur felt something horrible happened to the city, for this was not the description he had been given. Stepping into town, he noticed a small halfling hiding behind brush, observing him. Simply ignoring this, he kept walking... if she (or he, he didn't quite catch her face) wanted to do something, it'd have happened by now. He peacefully walks into some sort of boulevard with buildings on both sides of the road, trying to find an inn in order to get some food and rest. After all, one cannot simply fight mighty foes with an empty belly and lack of sleep, right? Catching glimpse of an inn, he starts walking towards it. As he draws closer, he notices there is a tall, bulky Minotaur yelling orders while pounding his fist on a table. Not stopping, but still looking at him, Azur thinks to himself that the Minotaur would definitely be a mighty opponent if caught on the opposite side of the battlefield, or a great brother-in-arms if caught on the same. He does not feel threatened nor in fear when the beast stands up and looks directly at him, instead he simply gives him a respectful look and keeps walking. To his surprise, the Minotaur nods, retributing the look Azur gave him. Stepping into the inn, Azur realizes it looks much better on the inside. There are several patrons, among which two elves, a couple humans and a weird gnome tinkering weird gadgets in his hands. Some of them give Azur a quick look and then resume whatever it was they were doing. He decides to sit down at the only empty table there is, since he doubts anyone would be "interested" in sharing one with a Barbarian. A 7 feet tall inkeeper approaches with a friendly look in his eyes, asking what would it be and Azur asks for some food, though nothing too fancy, since he's somewhat short on gold. The innkeeper, who introduced himself as Swargen replies that the meal is free of charge, provided the Barbarian could help him with some "basement problems" . Having agreed to this, Azur quickly chomps his food, letting out a loud burp at the end and starts heading towards the basement to tend to these problems Swargen mentioned. The basement is cold and the lighting is dim, though just enough to see several feet ahead of himself. Hearing some weird noises (that sound like squeaking), Azur unsheathes his greatsword, slowing his movement around the room. He now walks towards a particular wall, just beneath the stairs, carefully placing one foot in front of the other, when suddenly, part of the wall collapses and several giant rats lunge at him! Steadfast as he is, he stands his ground and just as several rats jump towards his face, he thrusts his sword forward, impaling one of them. Taking a step back, Azur swings his mighty weapon, chopping the head of another rat off and sending the impaled one flying across the room, who unintentionally collides with another one of the repulsive creatures. Though he was doing quite well, the giant rats had the advantage of superior numbers and quickly overran Azur, biting and scratching his entire body, forcing him to drop his sword and falling to the ground, twisting and trying to get them off of him. Now enraged, the Barbarian manages to get up (with several rats still clinging to his body, with a few falling down) and starts sprinting towards the wall , eventually hitting it, sending most of the rats who were still attached to him flying in various directions. He takes out a dagger from his left boot and quickly stabs the stubborn ones who refused to let go. He quickly looks around the basement and still sees one, two,... four,... six,.. eleven, ELEVEN disgusting rats staring at him, preparing to attack. Refusing to lose to such inferior creatures, Azur lunges towards them , with the dagger in his hand seeking some rat blood. The creatures seem to realize the human is in some sort of trance and decide to spread away and run. One by one, the rats die to the Barbarian's fury, who refuses to let a sole rat escape. Several minutes later, and more than a dozen bloody rats lying down on the floor of the basement, Azur starts walking towards the stairs, picking up his greatword from the ground, scratches and bite wounds across his chest and arms, not to mention a bloody nose from throwing himself at a wall. He finds Swargen looking at him from across the inn, barely managing to contain his laughter. The innkeeper says the debt is paid in full and walks away with an elf, both laughing, leaving Azur with 50 gold pieces. Walking into his room, Azur calmly grabs a chair nearby and sits, leaning his head against the wall and closes his eyes. He is not used to the comfort of the inn's bed, and it felt unpleasant when he tried to sleep on it. His long, black bear mantle keeps him warm and he slowly starts to drift away into sleep, while reflecting on the events of the past day...

Swargen Journal 3/21/2016 Session Where to begin? After enjoying the snows that come but once a year here, and finding the wayward band of surprisingly able bodied beings that we absorbed after the Great Sharkman War and typhoon, I find myself yet again behind the bar at The Naughty Nymph (FINALLY a name!!!!!). Once again, a ragtag few that show promise have arrived. Perhaps some of them can aid me in finding Horukh; I have grown fond of the bird and it concerns me that he has been gone all these moons. The Warrior shows some promise; with a bit of form guidance from Baradin and some dirty fighting from Torvald rats will no longer pose such a threat to the boy. Cylara seems to have become attached to a very well armed elf, perhaps he could aid in the search since elves have a knack for finding things, at least the half-elf Moira (Mora) did...... ahhh memories. I will open the subject myself, since he is with me, after this trip to the temple to see if maybe they have some knowledge of where my mighty warrior companion has spirited away to.

Baradin's Journal - Early Spring Portlandio continues to rebuild... Albeit rather slowly...The roadways are clogged with mud and silt. The port is in disarray; beached ships and wreckage block the harbor. Refugee camps dot the hilltops. Each filled with hundreds of hungry & desperate people. The city is ripe with turmoil. To make matters worse, orcs have invaded from the north... Each day they advance closer towards us. I observed Portlandio's militia training... I was not impressed. Most of the recruits are conscripts... Farmhands, daytalers, and longshoremen. Occasionally I noticed a sell-swords or a hedge knight among the ranks. But overall there were very few "real" soldiers among this lot. The officers leading them appeared competent. They understood basic battle tactics and gave the appropriate orders... Shield-wall, pike-square, turtle formation... However, these maneuvers were hampered by the inexperience of their troops. They tried their best; I can credit them that. While watching the drills, I was approached by a courier. He was sent by one of Portlandio's generals; who requested my presence...
The Elven Willow ~ The bath was hot! Hot!!! Ah.... feeling the grime and cold melt away was lovely, just lovely really. This Inn has little in the way of comforts yet it is the most abundant in Portlandio so it shall have to do. Still... a room for myself and my cat is rare enough. Portlandio and it's peoples are strange. Hardly any Elves here....why? Perhaps they don't feel welcomed. Many times Elves, especially Elves like me, can have a poor reception in mostly human places. Still, the Orcs are nearby and the Elven Army shall be coming... inexorably and without mercy. Perhaps a place that the Elves and human representatives in Portlandio can meet and discuss the future of the city. To this end I have established the Elven Enclave in the Northern part of the city, near the druid grove. It should prove to be beneficial... if even just to help the few Elves that wander in here feel more at home. And... as curious things would be... another Elf has arrived in town. Well... downstairs, more precisely, at the Inn, which is surprisingly busy. The wine is hardly drinkable and the food is... well.... edible. One makes certain sacrifices when leaving the Elven lands... they just didn't tell me that it would be mostly food, wine and conversations! Still, this evening is shaping up nicely and could prove to be a welcome respite from the grueling journey that has been ours for the past few months.
Advanced Apparatus of Kwalish: This item appears to be a very large, sealed iron barrel, but it has a secret catch that opens a hatch in one end. Inside are 13 levers: 1 Extend/retract legs and tail 2 Uncover/cover forward porthole 3 Uncover/cover side portholes 4 Extend/retract pincers and feelers 5 Snap pincers 6 Forward/left or right 7 Backward/left or right 8 Open "eyes'' with continual light inside/close "eyes'' 9 Raise (levitate)/sink 10 Open/close hatch The apparatus moves forward at a speed of three, backward at six. Two pincers extend forward four feet and snap for 2d6 points of damage each if they hit a creature—25% chance, no reduction for armor, but Dexterity reduction applies. The device can operate in water up to 900 feet deep. It can hold 10 characters, and associated mounts. It has enough air to operate for 2d8 + 3 hours at maximum capacity. The apparatus is AC 0 and requires 100 points of damage to cause a leak, 200 to stave in a side. When the device is operating it looks something like a giant lobster. Advanced Features - Planeswalking 11 Go Home/Set Home 12 Next/Last Plane Type (material/inner/outer) 13 Enable/Disable Shield All advanced features require specialized components, focuses are required and so on. Additionally when shield is activated the creatures form will change into a localized version for the plane that it is on. When activated this allows for locomotion through the local environment no matter what plane it is on. Often times the form will be most lobster like as possible.
Excerpt from Ampton's Journal: The plan seems to come together with this apparatus, I think we can build some very nice interplaner traps and walls if we are able to find the components and build the bridge points. Everything I have seen around this area leads me to believe that the boundaries between planes are much thinner here and would allow for this very easily. This will seriously bolster the defense against the onslaught from the evil creatures that are attacking it. I do believe that the Modron would be interested in shielding this area to maintain the balance. Additionally I think we can build elemental planer traps quite easily drawing people away into some other place. I will have to discuss this with the Arcane folks in the company.

DM responding to a few questions from the chat room / comments from the peanut gallery. :D It was a lively and fun chat-room today. I know that I overlooked some of the banter during the game. Chatroom Highlights recap and review. At least look for the sections pertaining to your name! Erik Broman: right also look at the wanted armor tab thingy i am picky i know (From Birgitta (Erik)): so all the equipment i got on my sheet i have? no armor there DM --- The answer is, your Goddess Of Death, Hel, will ONLY allow you to wear Magical armor!! You don't have magic armor yet. I will check your character sheet if you added any other notes, but yes, that is correct, I think you probably don't have any armor since you aren't permitted to wear Non-Magical Armor according to your priesthood. Ampton Whistlebell (Aepod)): can I build out some advanced features on this Apparatus? I have some "plans" for something pretty neat. Wanted to find out what our limits are on this thing. (From Ampton Whistlebell (Aepod)): my defense plan, petition earth plane or perhaps Mechanus for help, building out an interplanner connection for defense. Like zones that are bolstered through the connection. DM -- Yes, cool. Kwalish. All good, Aepod. I didn't see your ideas until right at game-time, with so much going on. Now that I looked at this, it's cool, let's do this. (From Ampton Whistlebell (Aepod)): I basically have a question as well, you described it when we were playing last week as a vehicle that can fit everyone, but the description is not as such.. which leads me to believe that we have a HIGHLY modified prototype version of the Apparatus of Kwalish! DM --- One change here. I believe I said "Anybody" could fit in it, not "Everybody". It's big enough for about 2 to 3 human-size or smaller. It was used in the Battle Of Shark Fort Island (epic battle that happened in some game sessions before you joined). At that time it was driven for exploration and battle by Airen (Bullywug) and Mora (Half-Elf). Cylara(Silk) Studying to Learn Spell Wraithform, from the School of Magic ! Purpose is mainly Utility ! I would like to go PC-by-PC on Move rates, and set them. As DM I like them a little more varied than just 6" and 12". I like to use 7", 8", 9", 10", 11", for a spectrum slightly slower than humans legs. A gnome would be 6", a halfling might be 7" especially if they are dexterous. An elf might be 9"-11". Humans are 12". We will incorporate Roleplaying factors like your age, armor, dexterity, handedness, and general quickness of gameplay. Characters who ARE a little faster, can be a little faster. Characters who waddle around, or sink in the mud, sorry if you're slow. Sigma (Larry): Sigma will be there as The Bouncer/doorman, with some of his lizardman crew outside. Furnace and Snush will be inside in their big clay firepot being adorable. Cute, I like the big clay firepot for their sleeping pit. Thoughts of a Barbarian, #2 Azur is sitting on a crate. It is of simple design and seems relatively sturdy, considering how old and fragile it actually looks. He starts leaning back in order to rest his head, but soon realises there are no walls nearby. Actually, he is outside . And there are several haystacks burning around him... and there are also several human and orc bodies lying around the floor, still gurgling blood from their insides. He snaps back to reality and realises he was still entranced by rage, though it all seems to make sense now... yes! , he remembers. He recalls the past day and how he actually ended up in a destroyed farm, killing what seemed to be ruffians. After several hours of well deserved sleep (and a thorough bath, to wash away all the rat blood), Azur took the stairs down to The Naughty Nymph 's tavern. He hands his room key to Torvald, who tells him Swargen has decided to throw a party, and that he should try to show up, considering there's going to be free food and beverage. Free food? Azur couldn't and would not refuse such an offer (GF references are strong here) ! He decides to take a walk around the woods for a while to try and remember the smell of home, though the woods in this part of the continent are alien to him and he is not able to recall anything... The sun is setting in the horizon and the party has certainly started already. The barbarian heads back to Portlandio and to his surprise a lot of people are gathered outside. Actually, that might be due to Sigma, the Minotaur standing guard at the inn's door, possibly intimidating most folk from entering. As he gets closer, Torvald and Swargen welcome Azur and the three start talking about his "performance" down at the basement earlier that day. They all laugh and begin to share stories with one another. They don't seem like bad people and are certainly trustworthy, not to mention fun! The shared hatred towards orcs sparks a long conversation between Torvald and Azur and they end up drinking a few beers together while eating some spare beef jerky. Meanwhile, some Norse Priest arrived in Portlandio with a barrel of what seemed to be beer, but neither Azur nor Torvald knew for sure... its colour was rather, strange . Swargen actually had the guts to down a mug of the thing . Knowing him, he probably told her it tasted great , but his eyes told everyone else not to come near the barrel. The day after, after cleaning up the mess the inn was in, a Koryon Corporal came blazing through, pointing fingers, especially towards this cute little creature of Sigma, a fire drake. He claimed the innocent thing has set fire to the farmlands, destroying numerous provisions. Sigma and his party knew better, though and forced the corporal to tell the truth (in a rather unusual way, the poor bastard must have laughed for a good 10 minutes after the elven lady casted a spell on him). With General Yi Bang out of town, the other two were attempting to frame his troops for this incident and the corporal was forced to throw off heat on someone else. Several adventurers, Azur included, offered the man their help and they traveled northwest in order to dig up the truth. Finally arriving at the farmlands, the party saw a huge column of smoke , and after gathering some information from a nice elderly couple, they rushed what seemed to be a company of orcs and humans, working together . The battle did not last very long, the party's cavalier charged their frontline, disrupting their formation entirely, the elven witch managed to take out their leader and the rest of the party cleaned it up. Some people were surprised by Azur's fighting technique, since it was something they had never seen. The barbarian was fighting against two opponents and after skillfully dodging the incoming blows, with fire in his eyes he grabbed his greatsword by the blade and swinged it forcefully, burying the cross-guard into an orc's neck!, instantly killing him. After the battle was over, Azur noticed an orc jumping out of a hay stack sprinting across the fields towards what seemed to be a distant group of people... this was not good. He was probably going to tip them off... grabbing his bola, Azur started blazing across the field, in pursuit of the runaway orc... a couple seconds later, the missile weapon was sent flying towards the creature... EDIT: How in the Nine Hells do I align a picture to the left? Is there a [float] tag or something similar? I can't seem to be able to do it with tables, since only one line is shown alongside the picture :((

EDIT: How in the Nine Hells do I align a picture to the left? Is there a [float] tag or something similar? I can't seem to be able to do it with tables, since only one line is shown alongside the picture :(( Rex , Thank you for being an enthusiastic participant in the campaign so far since you joined. Engagement with the homebrew story and fellow players is appreciated and worthy. I will take into mind the thoughts and Journals of your character Azur . The way to align a Picture in Roll 20 is: First post the picture into the text. Then click on the picture itself and click "Edit", then choose the drop-down for Right or Left or None and SAVE. DM's doing prep for game on Tuesday... Window is open for Journals.
The orcs. The oncoming orcs. Gruumsh… I hate them. I hate them all. (new original art by Larry Dixon) A Ranger's Examination of His Coming Fall To Rage. I was trained in how to commune with nature and to reach inner calm. A Ranger is a title of… nobility in humility. Becoming a Ranger means passing tests of valor and wisdom, of knowing when to halt so your footfall does not crush a rare mushroom. Of knowing your place in nature and striding gently, of feeling what is natural and what is strange with senses beyond sight and sound. The Ranger connection to the world is impossible without the ability to attune the mind to the environment, and be calm, in the moment, to make an instant of time last hours of examination to find clues others would pass by. Instantaneous peace of mind. But I hate them. I hate orcs in a way that I know is unreasonable. There is an intensity to it that sharpens me, even as it maddens me. I hate them in a way no one else ever has because Gruumsh , by way of Alkarg , has been in my mind. I have the kind of hate that makes me carve death symbols into a table without realizing it. The kind of hate that makes me split logs to exhaustion, wishing with every strike it was an orc skull. I hate orcs because they are an active decay, an anti-life . The orcs want defilement of beauty more than they want conquest. The orcs want enslavement and torture of others more than they want any other pleasure of the flesh. The orcs are an infection, a parasite. They are vines that strangle a tree, then reach to the next until all that is left is a colorless, tangled forest of death. The orcs are unnatural, and my knowledge of them grinds away in my skull. The deeper I try to find reason in what they do, the more I realize orcs are like warrior ants in how they swarm and overcome others. They have no other purpose. The orcs want a world where there is no music that pleases my ears, no food that delights me, no comfort. Instead there would be only cold nights, war drums, and screams instead of songs. I hate them. I want not to. I do not want to be a creature of hate . But… what orcs are, compels me into becoming … what I feel now. I hate that they corrupted me by teaching me what they are. I even know their language now, castes, tortures, military structures, and their intents. Their intent is to be a plague to all of nature and all free people. Unless I receive the direct and clear blessings of Those Above, Around, and Below , I will lose my Ranger status and powers fighting the orcs in the ways they must be opposed. Destroying the orcs and their allies means striking dead those I have not interrogated or searched for innocence. Orcs will happily use innocents as shields, and use what we care about against us. To counter that, I would knowingly commit acts of evil and fall away from the grace I have known as a Ranger as a caretaker of nature, for I have no other ways of fighting orcs that would leave me clean of spirit. I would be “the minotaur who slaughtered the hostages to kill the orcish general,” and I would just have to face the judgement for it. I could tell myself some parable that to save a whole forest, some living trees must be felled, but innocent slaves and hostages are not tree limbs. I would know I chose to kill them just the same. Alkarg taught me too much for me to be completely good again. I can only hope that I can be forgiven for what I must do, to fight for what is good, on the grand scale---for I will slay my way through orcish armies and their allies, entrap, divert, confuse, snare, hunt and snipe at them mercilessly. Let it be so that the music may remain and the forests stay green, even if they sing songs that I, as a fallen Ranger, can not hear. It can be there for others. Ultimately, I am a fluke anyway---a lost, educated monster who was helpful and good for a little while. I had respect for a few short years, and one true friend, and that is better than any monster can probably expect.

Its okay Larry... Torvald understands Sigma's rage. He spent the better part of his adult years fighting greenskins All dwarf kind hates them with a passion; hence the +1 Hit vs Orc/Goblins/Ogres/etc... As I'm fond of saying, "Only good orc... IS a DEAD one!"

Baradin's journal - Early spring The corruption of Portlandio continues to amaze me... While celebrating the grand opening of the "Naughty Nymph" a small detachment of soldiers arrived. They quickly accosted Sigma; accusing his pet fire drake of arson. (A preposterous claim... One I know to be patently false; as it was apparent the officer was just fishing for a bribe.) Sigma handled it all with typical stoic resolve. Gruff and unrelenting... He challenged the young Corporal's lies. (What he didn't know was that Cylara had cast a spell. Compelling him to truthfulness through uncontrollable laughter... An amusing sight to behold!) Before long, we learned all about the ongoing power struggle between Portlandio's Generals... Caught red-handed, the Corporal was forced to throw us a bone... He offered up news of bandits raiding the surrounding farmlands. Hinting that these brigands were linked... To the Generals... The Orcs... And Portlandio's recent disasters. Hell-bent on finding answers, we headed north to the nearest farmstead.
Those peasants don't seem very happy...
There are parts of the USA, even today, where that is used as a camo pattern....

Dev diary #1: The shipping *working on it, please dont read yet! * There has been two full cycles faces since we lost the chieftain’s longboat in the storm, half the ship is currently sick and those numbers are rising from day to day. Morgan and Freeman where the first to fall that was about a week ago. Today the total death toll reached fifteen men all of ‘em good and true. The captain decided that we should Wrapp ‘em all in a mains’l tight with twice ten turns of a hawser’s bight and heave ‘em over and out of sight, with a yo-heave-ho and a fare-you-well there be a sudden plunge in the sullen swell they were ten fathoms deep on the road to hel. This was hardly proper buring rituals.
Before I go to sleep RL, I want all of you to know these have been some exceptional journals, both by our longtimers and our newer folk. You remind me every week why I am fortunate to be in this company. Today's offerring on Shirt.Woot seems appropriate:

SolidHybrid said: For you Larry... I'm proud to give you, "Sigma, Furnace, and Snush!" riding that crazy locomotive we all know too well... DM Forum Response, Solid and GIFs Are you a photochopper now, Solid ? You've started making your own graphics occasionally for this, right? What program are you using? I chuckle. It's great. Chris C actually started using Photoshop/GIMP due to this campaign as well, and he got pretty good at making funny digital mashups. By the way Chris is coming back into the game today so we will probably see that art of chaos again. For GIF's --- everybody click the GIF to see the picture animate, if it is showing non-moving in the Roll20 forum thread. DM here, reading back over all the Journals of the past week, in prep for today's game session starting in 1 hour. DM Game Today Comments, Gettin' Ready to Play! Feel free to enter the game table & Discord and chat with the others when you're ready. Everyone who wrote a Journal be sure to ASK DM in-game in-chat, or PROPOSE (pre-write your own XP line and get DM approval) for your personal Bonus Journal XP. To help me keep track of each PC and their Level and what you posted under Journals, to calculate your individual bonus. The Illusive Manager CO-GM is coming to the LATER part of the game session (2 hours after we start), he is not coming at the start. So I will be DM'ing the early part of the Orc map encounters, and, hopefully Illusive will be here to play the 3rd Map vs. The Party.
The Elven Willow ~ Orcs! North of town and I can feel their corruption. Perhaps it's my imagination. Still, with all I've seen recently imagination is nothing to ignore. What were those humans doing... helping the orcs or just not wanting the help of Elves? In either case magick speaks and all listen. Better at the drawing now, no more hesitation when the knife slices the flesh. All magick carries a price, mine is no different and so I no longer wonder at this. Clearly, this is not a view my companions share. It's not all fire and electricity... sometimes it's more subtle. I'm sure that corporal will recall our conversation with delight for the rest of his days....and the orcs have learned that Portlandio is no place for them to come.
